"A movie on Jazz Jackrabbit2" on Railroad Tycoon II disc

Heya kids,

I just found an old Railroad Tycoon II CD-ROM on the shelf here. I've played that game once in my life, many years ago, before I joined the Jazz2 community. I were quite unsuccesful, that's all I can remember. So I decided to try it out again. I stuffed the CD in to my computer and were surprised by the autoplay window that came up.

The CD contains a 9,66 MB, 39-second AVI movie featuring the (yellow) 1.23 logo and some footage of Jazz2 macro's being played.

Has anyone else ever found Jazz2 trailers or similar things that came with other games? I'm curious if more of these have been made.

Jerry

P.S. I've uploaded the AVI file here for those interested, though I'd appreciate it if someone having a YouTube account could PM me to upload it there, as I don't have unlimited bandwidth.
P.S. see next post for a Youtube link.

That is a pretty terrible video. Nice find, though!

EDIT: Youtube'd: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_FNwKMDnLw - might take a while before it's processed.

Yeah, I saw that ages ago. Here it is on youtube from two years ago with basically the same name, for instance, and I know it's been around somewhere since before that.

Oh by the way, the file's date of creation is 2nd Oct 1998. Is the yellow logo really that old already?

Well, the JJ2 demo was released in April 9th (duh...), and it had the yellow logo as we all know. Don't remember if 1.10o had it.

Hmmm... Interesting. The video is pretty bad. However, the music would be catchy to one who's never played JJ2 before.

We should make up our on advertisement, contact Microsoft, and ask them to put our ad in their latest game

I have a Jazz Jackrabbit demo CD that was sent to resellers. It was supposed to be used on demo PC's. It actually has the Jazz2 engine on it, including a couple of the levels. But the engine was modified to only loop the game's demos.

I remember the yellow logo was the first thing new that I saw when I updated from 1.20 to 1.23, so I'm pretty sure 1.10o didn't. Did the demo really have it already?

Looking more closely at the video I noticed something even funnier about the logo. The logo in the video is the yellow one, but the macro footage they added (recognizable by the big 'DEMO' at the bottom) still uses the old, green logo in the top left corner. So when they were putting together this trailer, they must have used old footage, or at least they didn't do the in-game recording at the same time as they were editing the video.

I'm quite sure it is just 1.20. But I would have to check. It opens interesting possibilities though.

Seeing as the demo contains pretty much all J2Ls, the shareware is playable. When combining them you pretty much end up with a full version of Jazz2.

I've once seen a demo PC back in 1998 at some local IT store that was playing demo's. I can't remember whether they were running (looping) this special demo version you are talking about, was just a kiddy back then.. Interesting to hear such demo existed btw.

My JJ2 disc has demo videos for "RRT2" and "FLY!" (that "!" is in the game's title)
