JCS Tutorial
The JCS looks like something really cool to do however I don't know how to use it

It's pretty confusing stuff at first I guess... What I suggest doing is just fiddling with it for a while and asking any questions you may have here, but as far as I'm aware JCS does have its own 'help' section? That includes a manual with the basics.

I think exploring is indeed the best way, and when you are not sure the best way is to ask. However if you can't find someone to help you, then you can always learn both basics and advanced JCS techniques at this site

Actually, I would recommend Howto JCS over JCSref if you're looking for a tutorial. JCSref is more advanced, and it's a collection of unrelated articles with no real narrative flow, whereas Howto JCS is aimed at covering all the basics and getting you out the door with the tools to make a solid level. JCSref does have a good list of hotkeys, which I think maybe Howto JCS doesn't, but you can find those in the JCS help file as well.
