Two New Beta JJ1 Screenshots
I doubt many people will really care very much, but I thought I'd mention anyway that I just found two new JJ1 beta screenshots besides the known ones at Haze's Hideout. I'm not quite sure of the context the images are in, a box or CD-sleeve or something, but here you go:
![]() The Nippius shot is known (in better quality), but that's a new Diamondus picture, despite little being visible, and the first picture we've gotten of Letni, which is also notable because before, Nippius was the only planet not from Episode 1 to have known beta screenshots. Notice the planet number for Letni, 7, which would in the final be 4. (If they didn't reset each episode.) Letni here is beginning the THIRD episode of JJ1, not the second, and is preceded by Nippius (in place of Orbitus... so what would the boss be?) with one unidentified planet inbetween. Ahhh, I love beta screenshots. Anyway... The picture belongs to this eBay item, which is too ridiculously expensive just to buy. However, would someone with an eBay account (please volunteer in this thread so we don't end up sending multiple requests) ask the seller if they could possibly make a higher-quality scan/s for us? I kind of doubt they will, given that they have a huge number of auctions and haven't even played a lot of the stuff they're auctioning, but it's worth a try. |

Well, I have an eBay account, so maybe I can help.
So you want me to ask the seller if he/she could make higher quality scans of those screenshots? Is that all?

Yeah, and any others if there are any. Probably explain that these are screenshots from an unfinished version of the game that we've never seen before and are interested in studying more closely, so it doesn't come across as a total whackjob request.

Question asked. Now we just need to wait for the answer.

Just for the heck of it, comparison of Jazz in the Letni shot to the one in one of the high-quality Diamondus shots...
![]() It's pretty clear it's the same version of the Jazz sprite, but it's at least possible it's a different frame of the animation. The feet seem to go up further and look more curled in, and the ears/bandanna may be in a different position as well. Obviously a higher quality scan would help enormously. |

The screenshot is an interesting find. But forget about buying his Jazz1 CD, with some good searching you'll probably find a better and cheaper source to buy the game. Think about Epic Classics. And Jazz1 is not rare at all..

...well, of course. It's not about the game, it's about the image.

Interestingly SONG5 is Nippius and SONG7 is Letni. It's probably nothing though, since Tubelectric and Medivo are listed as World 01 and 02 in the screenshots and SONG1 and SONG2 are Sluggion and Technoir respectively.
EDIT: Also, Diamondus is World 00 in the Haze screenshots, so Letni would actually be the second planet of episode 3, with Nippius being the first. |

(Devan's Megairbase in final) Okay, you're right about Letni being the second, but Nippius remains a boss planet. (Interestingly, there are traces of a lost level in LEVEL0.007, but they don't seem to match the existing tile mappings for any tileset, including Letni.) |

It is pretty unlikely that A-C were being developed at that time, given that its tilesets were still being worked on during the development of JJ2. While it's quite plausible there was a planet that never made it into A-C, it could just have not been conceived of/drawn, rather than not used, and there's no reason to think it could have made its way into LEVEL0.007.

Higher quality versions of those two screenshots!
![]() Definitely a new sprite there in the Diamondus screenshot. Crouching+firing. Since Haze's Hideout stopped existing quite a while ago, I might as well use this thread to post the old ones from there, for reference: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Actually this character design of Jazz looks better than the one in original jj1! The original one is great, no doubt but it kinda makes Jazz look like a baby rabbit.

Interesting. I'm curious as to the specific details of this(Such as where the seller originally bought this(Or how it came into their possession if they didn't buy it), if the floppy disk itself still works, and what version of the game it is).

Heh, those are my screenshots, or at least screenshots I scoured from across the (archived) internet and gave filenames to. We were talking about JJ1, though.
