No, it's not a joke. I pay very close attention to detail in my tilesets. Ignore the flat parts, they're unfinished (and please don't use my old shit as examples, I'm better now). It's just too unfinished to make enough of a conclusion from it..and there's still stuff that feels off. If you want to critique, go right ahead. I'd rather get feedback than nothing.

Making tilesets the way I do is a real pain. I can't tile to save my life. Also I'm a perfectionist. If something looks off I will stubbornly not be satisfied with it..that's why it takes so long for me to work on tilesets. I've thought of going over temple ruins yet again.

SE and me are working on a remake of an obscure tileset, but he won't let me show the work I did. I was quite proud of it.

Everyone wants to see new and good tilesets. It just takes a lot of work.

Plusle is actually really nice, but all the pokemon tilesets sux big time... I guess I don't appreciate this kind of humor in case if all the people bringing here Windows / Pokemon / movie tilesets are joking.

A lot of people seem to have it but no one wants to even show it (I don't understand why no one ever made a level with that tileset)... What's the big deal? Are people who have it feel better than the ones who don't have it? It clearly looks like that judging from some of the people's behavior, teasing everyone about that tileset, feeling so important that they have it, but when asked to share it they just ignore... It's not like any of that people helped putting even one pixel into that tileset so I don't understand why don't just make it public? Someone who has it should just upload it to J2O (obviously giving full credit to Agama).

Why am I b****ing about it here? Because I realised that this tileset is THE MOST OBSCURE one. I don't even have an idea how it looks like (and probably I'm not the only one). I'd concider using that for this contest.

Prison was never uploaded to J2O because it was never finished. I can upload the image though. Apparently PJ tried to make a level with it, but some tiles were missing. Maybe when my tileset skills get better, I can finish off what's missing. It looked really close to being complete.

I don't recall a lot of people having it though. Just a handful.

I haven't seen it before either so it HAS to be obscure, no doubt. And I agree with Trey, someone should definitely try to finish the missing essential tiles without adding any (out of style) new tiles.

Well, since I don't have the time to finish it and I've forgotten everything about tileset making, you can do whatever you wish with the tileset. I'll be happy if it's used, there are some hours spent on it.

this set's style is quite unique... it'd be hard to add anything to it and not make it stand out horribly. curiously, this set happens to look almost exactly as the one I'd love to do but don't have the pixel-art skill to do it, just needs some variety... with little extra stuff, it could easily become a whole whooping castle, not just its dungeon, especially since we have a whole bunch of perfectly good dungeon sets already, with the official jazz2 castle set in front. but that's probably a topic for a different thread. maybe even a LMAT...

You're better off asking PJ, since those who attempt to use tilesets properly have a good idea of what's missing.

Aww, well when I started out at pixel art I wasn't spectacular. I learned a lot by zooming in on really detailed tilesets (8-bit method ones most of the time). Eventually you start to learn how colours and textures come together. It's also about experimenting with handmade textures. I'm getting close to reaching this quality. I just suck at perspective and mechanical objects. I'm sure you would have improved from your old sets by now.

I'm going to make a lot of tips on drawing tilesets with the 8-bit method some day, I just need more practice in some weak areas and would like my own webspace to host it first. I guess you could call it a tutorial as well.

Though, if you ever attempt to make another tileset sometime, I could try to help.

Yes, I'm ambitious. The idea of having small goals isn't thrilling enough for me.

Maybe you can add sign posts, arrows and shoot-em blocks to the tile set and try using it, Treylina.

This upload of mine probably counts as both building a level with a found tileset and modification of one. The tileset used there is a slightly modified version of IceDileria which was originally uploaded here and you can notice it was itself an extension of earlier tilesets by the same author: Minimaze and Minimaze MK2. I didn't remake the tileset and only extended it by useful tiles that make good usage easier, plus tiles I needed for the script used in the level.

Also, while I'm on topic of Thrifty and already mentioned three of his tilesets, it would make sense to link to the only remaining one, which also has a clearly misspelled title but otherwise looks functional and not too bad.

Nice to see your scripted level finally released Sir Ementaler! You sure are on your way to win this contest with it.

I hope to finish my submission in the upcoming 3 weeks. Still need to add a few missing tiles and do some finishing touches on some wall edges. Oh, and create a short yet challenging SP level to accompany it.

What happened to this thread? I was quite curious to see what you guys would come up with, but then everything got silent. (and sorry for not contributing anything myself :P)

I don't know about anyone else, but I personally do plan on sending in an entry at some point, although I've never finished a full level in JJ2, so...

This is not a proper contest. No deadline. Chances are, if a contest isn't organised, no conclusion (and a lack of drive to complete things) comes out of it.

Well, you'd think that with willing participants months ago, he'd actually set a deadline.

Even Stijn gave up on the prize offer due to the lack of organisation.

If you only want to submit for the chance of getting a prize, don't bother.

For now I believe Sir Ementaler's entry is the winner in terms of sheer quality, whether this contest gets more official or not.

What Trey said is true as reflected by my behavior to postpone whatever has no set deadline. I finished the tileset for this entry and got the level about 50% done. But as told in my previous post in this thread, my original goal was to finish it during my 3 week summer vacation but I just couldn't prioritize working on it.

And even right now I got my entry postponed due to Trey's treasure contest which luckely does have a deadline.
