Instead of me deciding, I'm going to let you guys decide what kind of contest you'd like to see. Or not. Vote away! There will still be money prizes
Part 2 poll is here, with less options: http://strawpoll.me/5133968 This time I'm not going to tell when the contest starts. I feel I need a break from contests plus I still haven't even announced the winners for the tileset one yet. Rejected contest ideas: Tilesets - We just had one already. Race - I want plus to improve it more first. Street fight - Same as above Single player - Either a scripted level would blow everything else out of the water, or you'd be stuck with tight limitations. There is not much competition when it comes to scripting. Tests - same as above. Tiny levels - The novelty wears off quickly. Pure eyecandy - I want something functional, okay? Assault - I may make an exception if theres a mutator made for this. But at the moment, the gamemode is just no fun. Flag run - Sorry I don't find it fun. About the cooperative option - I mean a level that makes you *need* another person to complete the level. This concept is largely unexplored, so I thought it could be cool to see what others could do with it. There does not even have to be enemies.

I thought of creating a mini episode of cooperative (2-player episode). I tried of creating a test level/tutorial level, but never finished it.

Monster: Similar here. Although mine evolved into an SP thing which I occasionally make small amounts of progress on.
One problem with designing co-op levels is they aren't easy to test. |

What is hard to test though, is big MP levels.

Unless you're designing for local co-op specifically, with its shared screen and everything else.

When I put coop as an option, I overlooked the online coop issues, like lack of sync between enemies and bosses and being unable to push big rocks. Perhaps I should just ban bosses because they sync plain horribly (perhaps there is a way to make them sync via AS, though).
What I had more in mind was a big puzzle obstacle course, rather than a regular SP styled level that works in multiplayer.

Yeah, I guess it would be easier with online people, but TBH, I forgot Plus had functional online co-op.

Although I suggest just banning the traditional bosses that are already in JCS, since if you use AS or Mutators, you might be able to get something working in the vein of Battery Check. |

i would like to see a battery check level contest

... I'm surprised at how much I like that idea actually... o_o

Never thought about it, but yes it's a good idea. Battery Check's editing capabilities are largely untouched out of experimenting, so it'd be easy for any JCSer to just hop in without worrying about originality too much since making anything that works and is fun will be. And if you really want to you can go crazy with custom tilesets and such.
So my vote goes to Battery Check. ![]()

I've long suspected that Nature's Ruins would be a good Battery Check tileset, but I don't know BC's palette requirements.

That said, I neither have any idea what palette entries are used by the common sprites such as Batteryman and the Suckers. Getting those to work would at least kickstart a custom tileset.

Sorry to rain on the parade, though I have no interest in doing a battery check level contest. If any of you want to make one, be my guest though.
Sure it shares the same engine, but it's not JJ2.

I forgot August the 5th had passed.
Anyway, I changed my mind about when the contest starts a while ago. Votes seem to be quite spread out, and I'm not having a battery check contest, so a new poll with less options will be put up. It'll be between coop, assassination, ctf and battle. I've never played it, so I don't have much of an opinion on it (I will check it sometime, but I have no interest in doing that at the moment). But it's just not JJ2.
