Stuff you do instead of JJ2..and my old-ish plans
I figured there was a thread like this, but it only involved real life matters. So here's a place to answer for potential no-lifers *cough*.
As for me, I moved onto other games. I also lurk the internet and chat a little more on Discord. I also try to draw but lack the motivation (my anatomy and perspective is still bad - don't bother bringing out that tired old generic "practice makes perfect" drivel that everyone and their pet rock can say). I also attempt to speedrun, with mixed results. Still, I check online JJ2 every now and then. As for my JJ2 plans.. Let's be honest, JJ2 may be on its last legs (I expect it to be like this for a couple more years, before finally RIP). I try to care for this game, but I've been lacking the drive to levelmake, organise events and host contests lately. I was going to plan an (UN)nniversary this summer, but I'm not sure if there would be enough people interested. Basically, it's a casual event goes through all the AB maps - CTF and Battle. It's a leap through time. I wouldn't be hosting this time, just organising the levellist. It will either take place in July or August, during the summer holidays. Last years was on May, which I believe was too close to the bash. As for a contest, I thought of a create-a-boss contest. It fits the desired result of an "other" contest..sort of. Entrants would type and/or draw basic diagrams what their boss would be like. However, instead of cash being the prize, the prize would be their boss becoming completely playable, with custom animations made from scratch! They say time is money - so with my animation, you're actually getting something worth more than any of my money. As for other non-JJ2 products, I've considered starting some game project. Probably a free, short and silly one and a more serious, somewhat ambitious one I will do on the side, since I care about the latter more. Do not ask about joining - it will not end well. So, my questions: What do you do instead of JJ2? How longer will the community last? Would you consider taking part in any of my events?

I don't really do much either. I don't have lots of friends, most of the time is spent with my girlfriend when there's no school. Studying takes most of my time for now. I'm also slowly losing interest in Jazz. I mean, I love the games, the characters and the community but I lost that spark I had 1-2 years ago. For now I play Mario 64 and I plan to play Pokemon Snap. I feel like I should play more classics, and I've got to say they are very enjoyable. Oh, and I also play with my cat. She's a little a**hole but I love it.
I, personally, am not interested into any events except Anniversary Bash. Plus, I lack of any kind of talents. So unfortunately I won't join your events. Considering the fact that this community is still alive after all this years, it might never die. There will always be nostalgics to come back here, stay for a while (2-3 maybe even 5 years) and then leave. And this will go on and on. It's sad. But in a way, I'm glad Jazz doesn't have an enormous cancerous fandom.

The UNniversary is a casual event - like AB but with all of the levels throughout the years. It's not about being skilled, it's about getting together and remembering the old times (I'm not that much of an online veteran, but it's fun to hear about the past).

But who knows, I might join if I get some free time. I'm more of a person who enjoys playing single player or co-op though. The Street Fight thingy is pretty entertaining as well in my point of view. But when it comes to Battle, CTF, LRS and pretty much any gamemode that has battles using guns, well, I just can't enjoy it that much.

Okay, there are lots of old games which I stopped palying and returned after several years. As you can see- its a cycling process. For example:
-Earthworm Jim (2002~2005). Returned back in 2012 and played so much that I have mastered the whole game and have all the versions of it, even the master system veraion. Finiahed Earthworm Jim 2. Played since late 2014 and now left again. -Fifa: Way too many games. Play 2002 once, then play 2016, 13 12 and ao on. -The list can continue.. Right now, I am out from the Jazz Rabbit world and might take several years to come back. But I haven't lost my interest from the community. Hence I come here regularly. I think the community can last for several years even if JJ dies. Right now exams are killing me but that's not actually stopping me from doing anything else. I am onto new games since I bought a new Pc. I still draw pictures just for fun. But not much as before. To be exact- instead of playing the games, I spend most of the time tweaking various graphical settings, trying to run at 4k and benchmarking. Anyway, if he new unreal engine 4 JJ2 port is finished and released in steam- it might give jj2 a life again. Edit: typing through a mobile phone gives me heart attack.

One of the very few, very rare universal truths in existence is "tired old generic drivel"?

I try to make games and write. I occasionally draw, although I'm pretty bad at it. I also play the guitar, but my amp now produces loud white noise when I turn on the distortion, so I either play acoustic, or sound crappy.
I also have been known to compose music, although I'm a beginner, so it tends to be pretty rough. I also watch a lot of TV -- current shows include Rick And Morty, Steven Universe, and Doctor Who. As for older shows, I'm slowly re-watching the three original Dragon Ball series(I'm hoping to marathon Super at some point when I have more time), and I've been going through Batman: The Animated Series. I'm also trying to watch more movies, but that's been stoppered somewhat by limited time. As for gaming, I haven't had enough time to commit seriously to any game in particular, but I'm hoping to get back into Smash Bros in a couple of weeks, when I do have time. As for how long the community will last... Almost everyone who uses these forums right now has been here for years, so they're not going anywhere. And with new people dropping by every now and then(Some sticking, some not), this fandom will probably keep going for ages, although I doubt it'll significantly change from how it is now until Epic actually do something with the Jazz franchise. As for Jazz-related events, I don't have a lot of time, but I'm happy to join in on the more casual events, and spectate the more competitive ones. |

Give yourself a goal. Or multiple goals, it's up to you.
Then do everything to achieve them. That's worked for me so far. |

I still play games a lot, but it's mostly console games and League of Legends. I like to still play JJ2 from time to time, but only single player. Every time I do, I look back at my unfinished level pack and wonder about finishing it, but there's less and less people to do it for, and at this point I have to carefully consider which projects are more beneficial to me.
Wasn't there a similar thread like this recently...?

The reason is on the top.
Anyway, about levels. I don't think you should worry about who's active too much, especially considering it's single player - which can be picked up and played any time. As long you bring your cool ideas to life, that's what matters.

Other than JJ2 my favorite games are Megaman series and Castlevania series, I also play League of Legends with my IRL friends from time to time.
I'm not sure if I should mention IRL stuff but I just graduated from highschool, and I also used to train freestyle football: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkuEM0NzLDk But I haven't been training lately I can't really decide what's the state that JJ2 is in right now, it hurts to say so but it's probably dying, it's really sad to see that Epic Games has relinquished this game for years and years... I always thought that this game died around 2011-2013 or something but surprisingly it did not, it still has an active community albeit small. Even if i leave JJ2 at some point, I'll come back a few years later, simply because of nostalgia, like my comeback last year. And yeah I would definitely take parts in your events |

My bad. Well, no-life only reasons concerned - first of all, don't get me wrong. I love the Jazz Jackrabbit games, anytime someone asks me what my favorite game is I answer Jazz2 without hesitation. But there's so many more games to play, so much more to achieve. Especially when thinking of my band, I did so many JJ remixes in the past, even if most of them were bad because I was just beginning to learn and I'd like to revisit and rework them all, it's so much more exciting to try and tackle all the different soundtracks. And, most of all, it's super exciting to make our own from scratch. I'm going to put the other part of your post here for reference before I get to the next part:

And making my own things with video games was always more exciting to me than just playing them. I guess that's why I came to like Jazz2 so much in the first place. I was never good at quitting things for good.

I got into Jazz (the music) and drawing. As for vidja, I wanna make a game but hit a rock with the game design. I also feel like I must have gotten to that place where I have all these game hours under my belt and I can't find anything interesting out there, JJ2 included (must have played this game for over 4k hours).
Hi did you watch the "Dragon Ball Reanimate" episode? It's on youtube. I got a kick out of it

First I'd like to point out that I haven't lost interests in Jazz Jackrabbit 2, far from it. In fact I returned for good this year.
Having said that, I make YouTube videos, that's what I mostly do when I'm not playing Jazz Jackrabbit 2. I still play the game, and quite frequently too, I just spend more time on YouTube than playing the game that's all. |

Mostly devving my own game about being a computer virus (links for download of the first predemo and some explanations here, if dropbox one doesn't work, use MEGA one).
Also ETS2 and Enter The Gungeon. //edit: Also playing original JJ, which is still better one. JJ2 has lost touch regarding level design, most of levels seems empty, like large swatches of exact same tile, which isn't the case for the most of JJ1, aside of few corner cases (and mostly in shareware eps). The only good things about JJ2 are JCS and the multiplayer. Most of campaign sucked.

Thank you! Wouldn't mind getting some feedback regarding what's good and what isn't in the tigforums devlog thread. I've actually took inspiration from unreleased 3D jazz and jazz in general - I want it to feel as close to 3d Jazz game as you can get without having bunnies in it while also having its own identity.

I watch football and SpongeBob (I know it's hillarious, but the Serbian SpongeBob is funny IMO, I have only 7 TV channels and like 6 episodes a day). I go out and play basketball every day, which makes no sense cause I suck at it. If these forums and jjnet don't really count as JJ2, then I guess I do not even do anything JJ related.

Well my cousin had this old laptop that she lended to us, but the laptop broke too. I played JJ2 online on it sometimes, using the wifi from the tablet I get my hands on sometimes (like now). I even made my first finished tileset on it, and I'm preety proud of it ( because it's not just lots of one-colored solid tiles and other tiles that usually represent warps for tests). It has some sort of Dirt theme with some, how should I know, brick theme (kinda looks like a temple to me), AND it had poles, vines, tubes, hooks etc. Nothing was ripped from other tilesets. I even made my own dest scens ( i took only the ammo pictures from the dest scens cause my seeker scenery and RF scenery looked like boxes with little penises), stomp scens, colapsing ones, even some that can be used as speed blocks. Oh and I made the countdown dest blocks too. It was supposed to be released somewhere in March, but the laptop broke. I even made a special block system which can connect one-tile blocks with more-tiled blocks (cant really explain it, but to me its really awesome). Luckly I saved my only masterpeice on some flash drive and it was planned for J2O.
And when i dont do anything JJ related, I watch Novak Djokovic (my favorite tennis player), not at these days though, because the 3rd greatest tennis tornament on this planet starts in a few days. Last edited by Jelly Jam; Jun 20, 2016 at 02:26 PM. |

these machines always brake, all my other computers are broken and most unusable, the one i use now barely survived the installation of windows, and now somehow miraculously still lives. so what i do instead of playing jj2 is not move on to some better/other game, i must make another feeble attempt to repair one of these malfunctioning machines; but useally i just watch youtube.

I spent $1000 on a new rig about six months prior to diving into Jazz. Outside of Jazz 2, I play more beefy games like Hexen 2. :P I also enjoy Switch (stupid good system), PS4, and more modern PC games.
My connection is usually pretty terribad at home, though, so when I get a Jazz fix, it's usually on a weekend that I have my laptop with me when hanging out at work. Outside of gaming, I typically make music and hang out with internet friends, exploring SL and its impressive surrealities. I've also been really getting into watching movies at a theater, probably watching more movies this year than any year prior. Last edited by DJVee; Nov 12, 2017 at 10:40 AM. |
