I can't wait for this Bash.. although there is a lack of good uploads lately. Hopefully people can still finish some levels before the Bash though

While more CTF maps is fine, we are in need of new battle levels more.

However, I'll probably release a ctf level reguardless, since I'm 80% close to finishing it. All I need to do is finish the eyecandy and add some simple scripting. I hope to create/finish a battle level too, though.

If they don't do it, SJ and/or I probably will.

I'll organize some backup lists/suggestions just in case (I am not currently organizing this):

Battle

1. Maelstrom - Ragnarok
2. Forest Wheel - Violet CLM
3. Ancient Acropolis - PJ, DS & Loon
4. Pool Party - Superjazz
5. Surreal Supersuburbs (TSF version) - FireSworD
6. Tonight... - Loon
7. Robot Village - Snooze
8. Grass Hill Citadel - BlurredD
9. Cerulean Comet - Purplejazz
10. Shimmering Cavern - Sir Ementaler
11. Alcatraz - Loon
12. Towerfall- Violet CLM (Bad idea?)
13. Agony Void - P4ul
14. RockinG StreetS - ShadowGPW
15. Acht - Loon

CTF

1. Canyon Grove - PurpleJazz
2. Ancient Museum - FireSworD
3. HuitzilÃ(-)huitl - Loon
4. Los Pollos Hermanos - Ragnarok
5. Stronghold - SuperJazz
6. Sky Gardens - Foly
7. Radioactive Soup - BlurredD
8. Trepidation - Plumbe
9. Technological Problems - DarkSonic
10. Depths of Void - Foly
11. Grand Glacier - Loon
12. Brave Cave - Rabid Rabb
13. Downtown CTF - BlurredD
14. Cappuccino Sky - White Rabbit (I didn't forget about this!)
15. Pinball Arena 2k5 - Blackraptor

A tad too many loon levels imo, but he's the most prolific level maker I've seen since CelL or Snooze.

It's still possible to submit levels in for the bash, right? I've got a CTF level I'm even closer to finishing (yes, I've been working on the same level since I made that post). SE has also been working on a scripted battle level, which is getting close to being finished.

The scripted battle level idea of mine probably won't come this year (I take way too long to think of layouts), but I had a battle level remake where I finished 50% of the layout, so I might as well finish that...hopefully.

EDIT: A little shame that you didn't consider Sky Gardens, which I would've considered instead of MOLCH (too small), Radioactive Soup (been in a bash before), or Pinball arena (already been in a bash, twice).

As a suggestion, it might be a good idea to make a J2O news post announcing AB date and time rather soon, just so if someone happens to swing by J2O who isn't normally around they can see it and be like "owow its AB i totally forgot!" and save the date.

Ah, good one. I replaced MOLCH with Sky Gardens on my potential list, because I'm not that fond of MOLCH anyway. Just to emphasize, I'm not the official pack maker; I'm giving suggestions and potential packs. I post them here for people like yourself to give opinions/suggestions. Also, PBA is one of my all-time favorite levels. I added some "classic" levels, and I didn't mind that they were in previous abs.

Assuming the bash is going to take place between April 11th and 14th, I can set up the servers to start from 16 GDT on Friday.

How about streaming the bash at times of high activity (or 24/7)?

I'd lean towards high activity. I think it looks better to have a stream be offline at 3AM than for it to be showing a server that's completely empty.

Going to take Vivando's offer as sufficient for a news post.

My suggestion would be:
1 day a battle server in order of the maps.
1 day a ctf server in order of the maps.
1 day a battle server in a shuffled order of the maps.
1 day a ctf server in a shuffled order of the maps.

maybe 1 day is too long, so it might get shortened.

One day should be fine. Mixing them up is probably a better idea than two days of Battle and two of CTF, though, yes.

I thought of nominating Motherboard of Necrosis and maybe Super Substructure (I'm not sure how well it plays), two maps I almost forgot about. Sykio has improved since the questionable Epitome...2 (ugh, that levelname).

I would prefer the levels would have their original filenames instead the ab(year)(btl/ctf)(level number).j2l because of confusion.

I think that is a reasonable request given JJ2+'s support of level lists. It's no longer necessary to edit the level files change the next level setting.

Ewwwwww, jumpfun. So what if it's an old level? I could on why this level is bad (you just have to play it to find the plentiful glaring flaws, and it extends far beyond the tileset). There's better old TSF battle levels out there. Ok, Streetwise Slayers may be old too, though the quality is acceptable.

I don't recommend Towerfall either. It's too small. I guess you'll enjoy it if you like chaotic levels though. The novelty just doesn't cut it for me (I could go into why, but I'm leaving it for a review), sorry.

Also, what about Robot Village? Warpspacer? Experimental? I consider them decent (and well sized) enough to be in the bash.

I can't find Downloading by Blurred. It's not on j2o. Bleh. I don't know if it's an unfinished level, Blur has a couple of unuploaded levels.

I dont think quality is solely a reason for a level to be in a bash or not. Jumpfun might be old but its atleast quite original + quite obscure which is why we put it in.

I can do that but keep in mind some of these levels are not uploaded to j2o. (yet.)

I'm a fan of mixing in some quirky (or chaotic, for that matter) levels as well. It's not like there's much serious play going on in bash servers anyway, and just seeing the latest and greatest gets boring fast.

In other words, I do hope Best CTF Party Good Luck is in the CTF list!!

Then I nominate The internet. It should fix your needs;

http://www.jazz2online.com/downloads/7366/the-internet/

On a more serious note, I will have no idea what to think if this level really makes it. It looks like a recipe for ragequitting.

The bash is more than just a level making competition; it's a celebration of the history and culture of the community as a whole. It's that special time of year where we can all get together and have a good time reminiscing about the good times past and present. The level lists showcase the diverse nature of the community creation scene and how it has evolved, and are not designed solely to be a showcase of "the best levels" of the past year.

That's understandable, however I don't think "Best CTF Party Good Luck" was a reflection of standards in the past. It was obviously a joke level.

Anyway, I'll stop being annoying in the meantime (well, I don't intend to, but I imagine others would find I am).

I say that to myself whenever I play TF2... It never happens.

Anyway, my input on the bash is that it doesn't matter if a level is any good -- if it's entertaining to play in, I'll be happy with it.

but that level is like a summary of our whole life as a community

it even says 'good luck' in the title
