Hello.
It was more like four years actually... And yeah, the ears are a bit crap. If you're wondering why they're straight like that that's just so they could be prepared for animation easier and if I were to make a proper picture of the character I would of course put him in a somewhat more natural pose. Anyway, thought I'd just drop in to point that out. The character was mainly based on the pictures in the party mode menus in Jazz2. I've been considering redoing the character for a while as a model for another game like Unreal or Half Life or something, but I've never really gotten around to it. Quote:

Just had a look at your project, Baggers... cool stuff. I take it it's still underway? Looks like it will be an interesting game.

It is indeed ! very much so, you said you prepared the ears for animation...i dont suppose you finished the animating did you, id love (with your permission of course) to put your model ingame.
Good to see your ghostly form grace the forums again...i found your model's pic a long time ago when i started this project ! |

I animated the character for the Lost World episode cutscenes, but the way I created the model is not really well suited to real-time 3D and definitely wouldn't export to darkbasic.
Your Jazz model is looking good though. I was looking at the videos of your project and I was just thinking it would be interesting to see what you could add to the game in terms of gameplay. You could theoretically recreate the exact same Jazz game in 3D, but I think it would be more interesting to look at the 3D medium and see how you could use it to do things with Jazz that you couldn't do in 2D. Find the essence of the game and the character and then translate that to 3D. It has a lot of potential. I mean, look at what they did with The Sands of Time compared to the original Prince of Persia...

Well just off the top of my head... jumping is one of the main things about Jazz so you should think about how you could make jumping interesting in 3D. The question is whether or not you should do the type of acrobatics seen in Sands of Time or perhaps something else.
Because Jazz no longer has to just go forward and back he should be able to move sideways quickly to dodge attacks both in the air and on the ground. And seeing as you as you can now aim properly you should probably make that a bigger part of the game. Have enemies or triggers that you need to hit in a specific spot, etc. One thing you should definitely do is have dense and compact levels because Jazz isn't really suited to vast expanses of landscape I think.

What about the system used in Rayman 2/3?
Hold down CTRL and you can go sideways to dodge attacks while the camera sticks on your opponent.

But anyway, good ol' Baggers will read this anyway. So, to get to the point, I've played Rayman 2, and I think it's a pretty bad conversion of the original 2D game to 3D. The original idea of having Rayman's fist fly was taken out and replaced by.. oh noes, shooting! There were very few different enemies. They were all just robot pirates, and not quite many of them. Most of the skills you need to play the game had to be used in racing parcours and the like. Which leads me to Ninja Dodo's suggestion of not only making the original JJ2 three-dimensional, but to enhance its classic character. Despite being 3D, it should allow for really cool jumps, like jumps in the air, jumps beginning in one direction and shifting into another, walljumps, really high jumps that make the camera shift to bird view at the top of the jump so you can aim where you're falling, etc, and the number of enemies shouldn't decrease greatly. In most 3D games, like Spyro 2, you have a 3D route and every once in a while, you encounter an enemy, pretty much like a duel. There are only few places where you have to react quickly and decide which enemy to attack first, to where to dodge, etc. See what I mean?

Hope you are willing to help in this area. Ok back to work...sorry for highjacking this thread darkjazz ! |

Just a note to lil Fawriel, in Rayman 3 the fist has been put back in and there are more enemies.
![]() Anyways, it seems we really got offtopic here, best is we discuss the rest in Baggers' thread. ;D And why didn't I know there is a demo available for Baggers' game? =O Me wants!

Baggers: Eheh, don't worry, it's just that I'm a Linux user, and thus, exe files won't work for me... but I have Windows now, too, so it should work. I think I'll download that demo soon. *nod*
