LMAT (August)

Let's Make A Tileset - August!
Finished Product (five months later).

Ok, so I did make this after all. Whatever. Anyway, we're going to try again to make a tileset, only this time you can add as much as you want!!!

Rules/Restrictions/Guidelines:
  • Each update to the tileset must contain at least one new tile.
  • There are no official color restrictions. You may draw in 8-bit, 16-bit, or however you want. At the end of August, Tilesetpal will be used to attempt to reduce the tileset to a reasonable number of colors if it is an issue.
  • When updating the tileset, you may also edit existing tiles - this includes changing the colors, making them bigger, fixing small bugs, changing the shading, etc. You may only edit a tile if it is still recognizable as the same tile once you are done with it. Never redraw an existing tile from scratch.
  • You may alter the tile order as little or as much as you want when updating the tileset.
  • Do not include a Palette tile. This will be added when the tileset is complete. However, it may be advisable to leave a blank tile for the palette to go into.
  • Please refrain from posting textured backgrounds until at least the 20th of August, so we have an idea of what the tileset is like. Eventually, one textured background (if more than one are submitted) will be picked to be used in the tileset.
  • If you really do not want some of your tiles to be edited, for whatever reason, specify this clearly.
  • Don't worry about masking. I (or a helpful volunteer if one exists) will compile a mask for the tileset at the end of August. If I (or the volunteer) am unsure of how to mask a tile, and no instructions were provided in the post that introduced the tile, the creator of the tile will be contacted about it.
  • Logical content rules apply. Do not use the tileset to contain attacks against other people, pornographic or oherwise illegal images, links to illegal web-sites, or stuff like that. Use your common sense.
  • Enjoy, and don't be afraid to ask questions!

EDIT: There has recently been a complaint that there is no link in the first post. To rectify this, here is a link.

Are you saying that to submit tiles to the contest, we have to take the current tileset and draw our tiles in there?

Also.. I hope we don't have to stay within one theme, because what you posted reminds me awfully much of jungle. Some more originality would be good.. I'm thinking of adding some metallic parts or so for an interesting crossover..

Yes, truly, Roseta's and Disguise's style together could look... Err... No, well is not that right word. Just that. I think this can't work well.

I'll help with the masks, I like masking things.
Also, I'll be posting later today with some new tiles. I have a half started tileset that would fit nicely here. I just have to edit my tileset a bit so the connecting peices fit in the right places in this new tileset.

Since no one posted any tiles yet:

I like the contrast. And the best part is, the stars can be optional.

I was going to make those 4 tiles fit in more, but then I gave up halfway.

That would make sense. I didn't specifically write that, but it's a good rule. Feel free to enforce it.

I'm indifferent, since Fooruman or any other tile doesn't have to be used when this tileset is (hopefully) completed.

So there are several people eager to help with the masking (which is really a one person job), but what about some more tiles first?

keeping Fooruman in the set will ensure it will be used at least 200% more then it would be otherwise, and it would be used in very good levels

Actually if we leave in the sprite you'll have to agree to mexican terms and have it be 'Terexin'.

Hey Violet, what happens if I add all the tiles from last month's LMAT?
(this is going to be the weirdest decent tileset ever)

Cooba's Wonderful Contribution. v2.

Ok, this is a quick edit. I added the soil texture just to see how would it look with its newer version from July's LMAOT.

Actually... you could put it on 1, 1. It would be still there even though JCS considers it as a blank tile.

I don't think we need the green stuff to be larger than one tile high. It just doesn't work well in my opinion.

I disagree. It adds more variety. With nothing but one-tile-thick tiles, levels will end up looking very bland.

I guess it adds more variety, but from looking at the tiles the way they're arranged in the tileset, I felt they would look monotonous stacked like that.

Would this be eligible, or did I edit the the sword in the rock too much? It started out just re-shading parts of Ae's tile and making it fit the green ground tiles, but I got carried away on the rock. The sword is still pretty much the same, though, and the plaque just had the left half raised a bit.
