Make your boss come to life with the CaB (Create-a-Boss) contest!
I got the most votes on the other category. I decided to not do Battery Check since I have no expertise in it, and make my own kind instead. So yes, I'm finally back to making contests.
However - unlike my other contests, the prize is not money. Instead, the prize is your boss coming to life, fully animated from scratch! That alone is a worth a lot more than my money prizes (animation is hard and time consuming, you know). Entry rules and guidelines

I'd also like to mention backstories are fine and cool, but not mandatory.

Is there a rule for 1 person working on 1 entry, or more 2 or more rabbits can work on one entry?

I have a brilliant idea for a boss. But before, I should study human anatomy, the way lizards look in JJ2 and clothing. I want it to look really good, I mean, design-wise. Or at least the best my lack of talent can offer.

Don't worry about design too much. When I animate it, the visuals are most likely not going to be identical. Gameplay is the most important.

Giant Hermit Crab
Recently I'm working on improving my old Beach levels and came to the conclusion that while Uterus is an okay boss for the area, thematically, it's not really a water-based boss - thus, the game doesn't really have any. I've been thinking how to address the unique properties of being underwater and came up with the following idea: ![]() The boss basically sits in one place and doesn't move from there. Touching it hurts, of course, since its shell is spiky. You can only hurt it by shooting the crab itself, not its shell. The crab goes through 5 different states: 1 (not pictured): The crab hides in its shell and can't be hurt. 2: Idle - the crab does nothing, but is not hidden inside its shell. 3: Spin - the crab spins, so fast that bullets ricochet off it. By spinning, it creates a whirlpool that drags the player towards it. You can avoid getting sucked into the crab only if you hold run in the opposite direction, but you have to be careful not to send yourself flying into the spikes at the arena's sides once this attack ends. 4: Shoot - Shoots two spikey balls (can use Uterus' shield asset) that fly off at an arc until they hit the ground. Bounce a bit and break afterwards. 5: Bubbles - spits bubbles to a random point on an X axis, that slowly drift upwards and pop after a few seconds, right as the boss goes into another state. If the player gets in contact with one of the bubbles, they're stuck in a ball shape (like in a sucker tube) inside the bubble for 2-3 seconds. This doesn't hurt, but makes the player vulnerable to the other two attacks. So, that's the gist of my submission aaaaand I hope everybody likes it!

The Grim Reaper
Of all the ghosts on Medivo, there is one entity that frightens even the bravest of rabbits. The grim reaper is a scythe-wielding phantom that claims the soul of any living creature that dares set foot on the planet. Phase 1: The Grim Reaper floats towards the player and slashes. The boss flies like a ghost and can move freely through walls and objects. ![]() Phase 2: Reap. The Grim Reaper vanishes and then starts flying through the screen in a direct line twice on the player's current position. (Note: Clever level designs could make this far more challenging to dodge.) ![]() Phase 3: Death from behind. The Grim Reaper reappears behind the player for a quick slash, then resumes phase 1. ![]() |

I thought your original submission was lacking in depth (like how does the boss attack?). You could combine them together in a way, or let it replace the first submission.

It moves up/down forward and backward one tentacle at a time. I thought it was pretty obvious. So if no one likes it, then here's a different submission. This time thoroughly detailed.
The Giant Robo Boss With A Huge Spike Ball: ![]() 1. Boss appearance: ![]() The Gian Robot falls from the sky and when he lands on the ground, the screen shakes. No weapon can affect the metal body. You can only attack the turtle for a short amount of time (like 3 seconds). 2. The spike ball: ![]() The turtle pulls out a giant spike ball and starts spinning it above his head for 3 seconds. And then he throws it. 3. Ball movement and shield: ![]() Immediately after the turtle throws the ball, a protection shield made of King Kong Glass 5 enclosed the turtle to protect it. Weapons are not effective against it. The ball starts bouncing around and can harm the player. It slows down after each bounce until it eventually stops. However, the player can shoot at the ball. When the ball is shot, it jumps high and gains speed. That way the players must use the spike ball to hit the King Kong Glass 5 to break it. Only the ball can break the glass. The glass takes several hits until it breaks (like 5 or 10). 4. Legs and boots: ![]() If you stay close to the robot, it can smash you with its legs. 5. Teleporting: ![]() Every once in a while the boss teleports in a random predefined location. If it's near the ball, it can kick it. When you broke the glass, the boss falls down, the turtle will be unconscious and you'll be able to finish it with any weapon. Last edited by Roobar; Aug 19, 2016 at 07:56 PM. |

DoubleGJ, MoonBlaze, and wiivn all have good ideas imo.
Maybe wiivn's entry can be done for the most part using AngelScript and existing sprites? Though the modified sprites and screenshot gives the best practical example of all entries, the concept art for the Hermit Crab and Grim Reaper feel slightly more original using my imagination how they could work in-game. But that's what concept art's for I guess. Good luck to the entrants! ![]()

I'm a bit distracted that SE has came over for two weeks, since the same time the deadline happened.
Don't worry, we haven't forgotten. It always has taken me a while to announce winners. Hopefully they should be announced by next week or earlier. The judges appear to be me, Sir Ementaler and PurpleJazz.

Ok, I will now finally announce the winner is..
DoubleGJs Giant Hermit Crab! We felt that this was the boss with the most creative and interesting mechanics, and gives me something to animate too. Sir Ementaler will program the boss, and we'll upload a short example level with it. I will probably make a private skype group to keep updated on the progress. Honorable mentions MoonBlazes Grim Reaper We thought the design was cool - though mechanically, it felt like the love child of Bilsy and a Rapier. Roobars GRBWHSB (name's too long so I abbreviated it) The concept is cool, but we felt this boss would work fine with most of the current sprite elements. It wouldn't really leave me anything to animate either, since mechanical bosses work better with preset animation. There's a chance this might turn into an actual boss too, but it's (low)er priority, so don't count on it. All the judges pretty much shared the same conclusion on the entries.

Honorable mentions isnt really third place or second place. They both stand out in their own ways.
I mean, since that GRBWHSB might be made, you could technically consider it second place. I just put up The Grim Reaper higher on the list because it was easier to write about, rather than me considering it better.

Insaniquarium Deluxe, just a game I played when I was younger. I just thought it looks a bit similar to your boss concept
