Ready for some Jazz 2 nostalgia? Time to get retro!
This is a re-release of the level pack originally released in early 1999. Included are 13 battle levels made by me (AstroniA) over the course of my time as a member of the Jazz 2 community.
All levels were collected into this pack, updated and released with new music and polished gameplay. Levels and tilesets included within are second-generation Jazz 2 levels, from a different time. The standard and quality is quite different from what you would expect today. Bear that in mind when you play it. I have NOT updated any of the levels since the pack was released. It’s NOT meant to stand up to the quality of today’s levels. It is a collector’s item.
Thanks to Derby, Onag, Icewolf and the entire Jazz 2 family!
Part 1 of 2. YOU NEED BOTH PARTS FOR THE PACK TO FUNCTION CORRECTLY. SEE PART 2 FOR MORE INFO.
Well, it’s working again. Claps
Anyway, here’s my review..
The entire pack was made in 1999, which I took into account. It was an amazing level pack back then and is still in many respects a breathtaking level pack these days. It uses several different atmospheres and creates an overall interesting experience not like that of any other pack. Weapon placement is very good, and so is eyecandy. Gameplay was smooth and there were few dead ends, and the levels just generally “flowed” well. While this may not be as amazing as it was when it was first released way back 3 years ago, this pack certainally has lost none of it’s charm, and is to this day one of the best packs of all time. In short, I can not recommend this enough. Download today. You won’t regret it, OR YOUR CHIPMUNK-STRAWBERRY WAFFLES BACK.[This review has been edited by Trafton AT]

Hilltop Hares: (Diamondus)
A decent Diamondus level with lots of warps and (IMHO) too many powerups. There’s also a warp to an airboard areana, a feature in levels I’ve never cared for.
Christmas Carnage Pt1: (Holidaeus)
A small level, with again (again IMHO) a few too many powerups. One of the trees on the left side has no one ways for its top, but other then that, this is decent.
Checkered Trouble: (Cheq)
Despite that it uses the tileset well, Checkered Trouble is quite hard to navigate. Still, if you like eyecandy, this could well be for you.
Christmas Carnage Pt2: (Holidaeus)
Another small level, albeit bigger, and again a few too many powerups. I liked Pt1 more, but this is interesting. Bad dead end.
Muckamo Mayhem (uninspried name): (Muckamo) (duh)
A decent level, this uses the Muckamo tileset well.
Alien Carnage E3L1: (Alien Carnage: Office)
This level, for some unexplained reason, appears to be one of the levels from Alien Carnage. Thus, it’s not designed in a straight line, mostly, except for a seperate area there’s a warp to.
Christmas Carnage Pt3: (HOLIDAEUS)
Another small level, especially because a decent chunk of the space is used up by secret warp targets. There’s also an airboard, which doesn’t mix with the poorly masked slopes.
Jazz of the Jungle: (Raneforus)
Weird.. consists of a bunch of solid trees and platforms, and uses lots of layer 5, warps, and powerups.
Candy Carnage: (Candion)
I’ll admit I’m partial to Candion levels. Anyway. This is a medium small battle level with stuff. A few warps. That kind of thing. Feels a bit single player, though.
Green Hill Zone: (Green Hill Zone)
Poorly designed battle level (mostly dead ends) with a few good parts. Invincibility carrots don’t work in MP, btw, so having one the coin warp target is a bad idea.
Lagunicus Loho: (Lagunicus)
One of the only levels to use Lagunicus, this shows why people don’t use it. Consisting entirely of a bunch of small platforms, and way too many powerups, Lagunicus Loho is one of the lo points of this pack.
Marblera Madness: (Marblera)
Another medium small, but most of them are. Nice feel, though the deadends are annoying.
Hilly Pastures: (Diamondus)
Basically Hilltop Hares using Diamondus Night, without the airboards and with water at the bottom.
Overall, this is a very large pack of decent levels, only with great music. I was undecided between a 8.2 and a 8.5 here, but opted for the latter for various reasons.
Edit: I have taken another look at these levels, and found them quite unworthy of my original 8.5.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
‘Error to write file’ . . .
The pack contains only music and tilesets. No rating given.
And why did you make two parts?!
White Rabbit, ít’s in two parts because I tried to upload it all up in one, 2.15 meg file, which gave everyone errors when they tried to download it. It clearly says you need both parts for it to work.
Well…Here for my rare and occasional LONG review
Hilltop hares
An ok lvl using diamondus, everything is okay, a bit to to small though.
+.3
Christmas Carnage part 1,2,3
Thank you, ineeded to know how to use the tileset properly and seperate the day part from evening, the evening from night etc. Like I said its also samll but still good
+.7
Checkerboard trouble
I thinkits your biggest level, fairly done
+.4
Muckamo mayhem
I prefer hazes muckamo tileset but this one is more realistic. Nice level, not as small as some of your others
+.5
Alien Carnage E3L1
Im not in favour of these videogame levels, but its not your tileset so. This is overall a good level, not perfect like the kevels from blades battle pack or anything, but a good level.
+.3
Jazz of the Jungle
An original name, good use of springs and poles, another average level
+.4
So far 2.7
Candy Carnage
U use the word carnage to much, but this was my favourite level. I needed the original candion music because i like it and agian, it taught me use of the tileset so thanks
+.7
Green hills zone
I knew how to use this tileset so…
I luv the music, and the level, so you got a good mark for this
+.6
Lagunicus LOHO
I dont like this level much, it looks to empty for me and not much effort is used to make this level
+.1
Marbelera madness
Well this is my second favourite because of the tileset, the level and the music. To small again though
+7
Hilly pastures
Almost same as hilltop hare so not much marks for copying your level and only changing it a bit
+.1
Total 4.9
Music= EXCELLENT
Im nort sure you downlopaded this or made it, some of it you donwload it im sure so only 4.0
And +.1 for effort and wise choice of dividing the extremly big pack into two halves.
9.0 in total conghratulations
Edit: I got longest revieew so bleh whiterrabbit if you review this
Wait, I think Violet got the longest
Darn
Edit: lowered rating, my last one (9) was overrated.
[This review has been edited by Blackraptor][This review has been edited by Blackraptor][This review has been edited by Blackraptor]
Sigh, overrated, overrated. You can’t stick to the rating of three years ago. You must compare it with stuff from the present!
And in that case I have a few words that can put this review together.
-Small
-Low eye candy
-Reasonable design
If you like nostalgia, download this. If you like the best levels available go somewhere else.
WHAT IS THIS???
IT ARE ONLY MUSIC FILES AND 2 TITLESETS!!!!! I WILL EDIT MY REVIEW IF YOU PUT THE LEVES IN THE ZIP FILE!!!!
