Description

Although three levels are included, one of them is really a bonus level. The are fairly difficult, and I reccomend that you only play on hard mode if you are good. If you play on hard mode, use F6 a lot to save your game, because even I have trouble playing through without getting killed. One of the levels in this pack (the diamondus one) is an updated version of a level I already released here.

I am quite proud of the first level in this pack. It only took two days to make, but it is full of secrets and challenges.

The only big error that sometimes occurs in this level is in “the spikeball pit” (you will know what I mean when you get there), where jazz2 will crash if you shoot too many of the spikeballs. Pretty long level description, eh? It’s because people read this stuff more than they read readme files.

Ok, lets start.

The first leve is awesome, just in the beginning there were dozens of secrets and mind tingling puzzles. The puzzles rocked, they were simple yet complex, awesome. The tileset use is also cool, and i basically like the level, its interesting and fun to play, great work. Good place to put a save point, good use of eyecandy and stuff. I felt at one point there was a spaz biased(The part where you had to jump and reach the sucker tube) but it was just a secret with coins. Great music, and lots of secrets and puzzles in this level. Ony i think it was a bit to hard, which in a way was good since it made it more challenging. There was one part near the end i think that forced you to wallclimb with RF’s (i coudlnt find any alternative solution and It was in a room with hooks in a room around the top. Thankfully, after dozens of tries I got to the top, but this may lead to problems to people with few RF’s (I had 99, but was left with 42 after my attempts to RF climb) and few experience, but it was still ingenious and truly evil. Oh, and since im to lazy to edit my reivew, ill just mention this here. The part that i mistook for being spaz baised wasnt spaz biased, but actually a secret, sorry for the inconvenience. Boy this level is taking me a long time to beat. God its taking me like 20 lives or something :P Anyways, nice tricks with the falling save point and all that, great level, could even replace the original labrat ones. I think the coin warp should of been a 100 not 50..Nice boss scenario btw.
Bonus level: Has an obvious music choice, and it was great. The funnest bonus level ive ever played actually, greatjob here mike!
Deserted Diamondus: Cool eyecandy and tileset use, was a bit crowded at times though. Good music choice, nice spring and pole combinations. Great idea with the water slowly dropping forcing you to hurry up to avoid being killed. Funny text ^^ saying Now this is annoying, good idea and ememy placement and all that, another great level. Great collapsing bridge and trigger crate falling out of the sky idea and all that. The next level setting shouldnt be that though, it should just be an end.

Anyways my review is nearly finished. I just want to congratulate EvilMike and his Alien Chemistry pack for taking up an hour of my time. The 3 levels are all great, and im giving this a big fat 8.7! Nearly a 9, if there were more levels and a story line, it would have been a 9.5. But for now, it stays an 8.7 and one of my absolute favorites.

yes. I found secrets lurking around the corner. Some of the tests I took in Jazz2 over the internet help me navigate through many obsticles :D

Well done level design.

Though another bug when killing a certain boss. When you beat it, stay away from its location; otherwise, you’ll get -1 heart out of nowhere :)

Great level Mike. The eyecandy is perfect and layout is superb. The puzzles are good too, takes some ingenuity (Yay! RF Jumping) ;P and that rock puzzle was great too, took me a couple of minutes. Bonus level is fun too. Good stuff Mike :)

The start level in the labrat tileset is masterfully done. Triggers are used so, that you have to actually look at what your doing to make sure you don’t miss the next place to go. The second (bonus) level is not something im good at… I only got rf :(… The third is the updated version of the one I played before so it didn’t take me long to complete. I did not find very much difference, but that must be me…

The levels contain puzzles every now and then. Some are easy (or is that lucky:)) some are hard. It’s good to have puzzles in levels. Requires thinking.

Let me seeeeee. I am in a good mood. I’ll give this a 10.

What did you say, BD? Thinking? Then it isn’t a good levelpack for me… Kidding. This pack definetly rocks. It’s soooooooooo hard, but I completed it after 3 hours (yes, really!). The design is superrrrrrrrrrrrrrr and the events placement is great, only maybe a bit too much enemy’s. I got to turn of the PC so I can’t write more. I’ll give this the average rating of this moment.

This is first time I have to use brains when playing Jazz2. You could run through every original JJ2 level. But you can’t run in this pack (what’s fun in running the levels through anyway?). The pack took me about half an hour to complete. These 3 levels are amazing work. Nice 20*1000 bonus level by the way :) . The eyecandy was unbelievable. The music was good. The difficulty level was just fine, I got killed several times. It was refreshing. Why? Because of the easiness of other levels.

Well done, Evilmike. Every single player level is precious. They are kind of rare nowadays. (well, good ones are)[This review has been edited by Blade]

I’m impressed! “Alien Chemestry” is a very, very good Single Player level pack by one of the most active authors on J2O, EvilMike from Canada. The pack includes two levels and one bonus level, where you have to collect coins while falling and falling and…you guessed it.

The two SP levels use the Labrat (the bonus level also uses Labrat) and the Diamondus tilesets and the way they are used here is quite original and creative. The design is superb, both levels are jampacked with secrets, puzzles etc..

Another topic is the eyecandy: EvilMike put a lot of layer work into this. At first sight, it doesn’t seem too spectacular, but when you have a closer look, you’ll discover a lot of keen details.

The difficulty level is very high, but thats not a disadvantage. Au contraire! In my tests, i wasn’t even able to solve all puzzles (but i presume every passionate Jazzer will be able to do so without cheating and when he or she got the time :-).

For the background music, the author chose some nice pieces of tracked music, namely “Almagest” by Stefan Xenos and “space debris” by captain/image. Not super 133t in my opinion but still great demo style music! Good choice, EvilMike!

Conclusion: every Jazz2 fan SHOULD DOWNLOAD “Alien Chemestry” RiGHT NOW (if you didn’t do that already :). It’s quite a satisfying Single Player experience when you made it through all three levels :)

yes the levels where hard but they were more annoying than anything. i found that eye candy was overdone in some places which really looked like u didn’t concider the level as a whole. most parts counteract with eachother (thats good).
i liked the bonus level. very intersting as for the rest of the packeage it was a so so average level no new tilesets nothing i never seen or certainly done before. the choice of music i found to be unfitting for a level like that. it was slow and almost put me to sleep. well i think the level deserves 6 at the most just because i passed it and glad to get it over with.

Yes, this pack is nice. I had a good time testing it, as I was winning a bet while playing it. Nameingly proving to EvilMike that is was possible as Lori. ;) I was right.
Also, being Lori gives you this huge advantage in the bonus level. ;) I got about 700+ coins out of it.
The puzzles are fun, though it wasn’t as hard as some of you say, but I didn’t find the eye candy out of the ordinary. At least there was eye candy, unlike some levels.
Oh, and I found that the Diamondus level was slightly confusing, and I wasn’t quite sure where the line ran. (That’s how I think of SP levels, lines.)

I did`nt do this yet? Then here i am:-].
This is one of the best singleplayer pack i`ve seen in some time. The 3rd level, deserted diamondus, was released earlier. I`m not going to review it again, so look [URL]here for my review on that one. The other 2 brand new levels, Alien chemestry and bonuds level(pretty corny name though) are also state of the art levels. They are very hard, but also very fun to play. `Nuff said.

A very good level by EvilMike to say the least. It features 3 levels, which I’m sure will become classics. Download this NOW.

Wow, those levels must’ve taken a lot of time and effort to make. Great eyecandy, good tileset use, an almost perfect level pack. However, I find the diamondus level seemed to crowded.

Nice job, I highly recommend you to download this. 8.5 from me. :)

An early level by EvilMike, that clearly shows what was to come with Devres. Floating Suckers won’t like this level, as it popularized buttstomping them to reach new heights. It has plenty of other clever design elements for it’s time such as using TNT to get crates that are out of reach, proper usage of spiked platforms, and even requires an RF jump at one point. The Bolly Boss arena, utilizing spikes and hooks, was pretty good too. The part where you helicopter and Airboard through a path of spikeballs has an unfairly small gap, and at some point there’s a rat next to a vertical tube that will always hit you.

It also comes with a bonus level that’s pretty original, grabbing coins as you fall, althougth it’s rewards are mostly useless unless you want to play Mike’s earlier Diamondus level with extra guns.

I recommend this even in 2019 if you want to see what EvilMike was up to before the heights of Devres.
