Description

This is another CTF level meant for duels. This one is a few months older than Employee of the Month, but I only decided to finish it today.

At first this seems like a fairly small, normal level suited for duels. That is, until someone enters the coin warp. Upon gathering 20 coins and entering the warp, you will trigger a blackout for the other player. They will still be able to see some areas, but most of the level will be hidden. See screenshots 2 and 3 for an illustration.

If the level is blacked out for you, you can turn the lights back on by entering the coin warp. And, doing this will also black out the level for the other player. As a bonus, there is a +1 carrot in the coin warp (this also encourages you to use it even if the lights are on for you).

I have provided two versions of this level. The first one makes it so the level stays darkened even after you die. In this version the only way to turn the lights back on is via the coin warp. It is basically the “hardcore” version of the level, and places massive emphasis on the light switch mechanic. In the other version, the lights turn back on after you die (this includes suicides). This makes the light switch more of a weapon than anything, and is more suited to serious duels.

Note that this is a 1vs1 level. Because of the way triggers work, if you do a 2vs2 here and enter the coin warp, your teammate will be blacked out as well as the enemy team (it affects everyone but you). You can still try a 2vs2, but it will take some strategy not to screw over your teammate (I recommend only entering the warp if you have the flag).

Also note that you cannot open this level in JCS. This is a protective measure, since saving it in JCS will break things. If you want to open this level, use reworder.exe to save it normally. That will “unlock” it. Do not use “save and run” from JCS though. If you want to edit the level, ask me and I can send you the rwmacro file that will allow you to edit it properly.

final rating 9.4.
DR? YES

Actually this level works only in duels, due to this exciting new feature, the light switch. A perfect sized symmetrical level, a standard eye candy, but after all it’s very fun.

Interesting level based around a pretty cool concept. Fairly standard otherwise, but still solid. Bonus points for using the music I made.

Levels which use the JJ1 Medieval tileset are indeed messing up at the preview. Always.

I played this – the hardcore version – online a few days ago, and well, with 4 vs 4 or something like that…. And guess. It was awesome!
Everything was well placed and works properly.
The light switch was the most ingenious and nasty thing ever… especially when everybody was blinded and some fell quite a few times into one of the deathpits lol.
It was one of the funniest CTF games I ever played.

There is also a version which put the lights back to normal after you die, which is obviously a good thing.

Music:
Fine. No problems or whatever.
10/10

Eyecandy:
Everything works properly, no noticable tilebugs.
8/10

Level layout: Well, seems fine. I like it. You can run fast through the level once you know it and ti is easy to learn.
8/10

Pickup placement:
No complaints about it. Everything is fine… alltough I should place 2 normal carrots instead of the Full RNG for the sake of symmetry.
9,5/10

Replay value:
Well, this isn’t a level that you want to play once.
I still want to play it again lol.
8,5/10

44/50 / 5 = 8,8/10

Penalties: None

DR: Yes. It is really fun.
The “babie” version is more suited for serious duels, but the hardcore version was suprisingly awesome when playing with quite a few players!

A question for the admins:
Why am I unable to rate this an 8,8?
Edit: Thanks VioletCLM.
