I know this is probobly a cliché, but I just hope that this particular pack is better
than ones made in the past.
Well, for some reason, I don\\\\\\\‘t know why, I decided to remake the
origonal Mario Bros game, playable in JJ2. It takes a lot of work to
make 1 lvl perfectly to scale, with the bg images (though there\\\\\\\‘s not
too many in some), and enemy/event conversions, and not to mention
cliffs, I didn\\\\\\\‘t want to go too far unless the community liked it.
So here\\\\\\\‘s the deal: rate it here on J2O. add your comments/suggestions,
and if this pack gets a good rating, I\\\\\\\‘ll try to make the rest of the
game.
I also used the 8-bit version of Mario for the tileset on purpose, to give you that old NES feel. So don\\\\\\\‘t rate this pack badly because of crappy 80\\\\\\\‘s animation and bad eyecandy.
I\\\\\\\‘d like to thank URJazz and Alberto for their help, and if this pack goes well, hope that they will be able to help in the future.
Oh yeah, one more thing, so that you don\\\\\\\‘t get confused, read the readme file. It will tell you some stuff you need to know.
note: today, (Oct 23, 2002), I\‘m re-uploading these levels, with a few improvements, (but unfortunately, no matter how much I tried I couldn\‘t fix the orange beams in level 2, so it takes some good jumping skills to use them.) The Tileset\‘s fixed, and the levels run better. Also, if you hit a question block from underneath, it actually changes to a blank block, like in the real game.
anyway, World 2 has been completed since the initial release of World 1, but it has many bugs to iron out still.
well, re-enjoy!
Nice levelpack, exact copies of the original levels.
I like the way you used to do the ? blocks instead of jumping against them, good job!
In level 1-2, i loved how you didnt forget to put the Warp Zone in, not everybody would’ve thought about that.
Overall: Nice job, really nice.
8.5 from me!
This is really fun, enjoyable and a great replacement for the original game, Mario. The enemies are a little bugged on the first level, but hey, destroy them with karate. I’m now thinking of a JJ2-Mario level where the ammo is disabled, that’d be something. Download recommended!
Yay, it works. Hooray for working downloads, and everyone who made them happen. ;D
Well, these seem to be reprocuctions of Mario levels. I’ve never seen the game they came from, so I wouldn’t know, but they look and play right.

pretty good, but easy.
wish i could hear the music (my speakers seemed to have stopped working)
, but at least i have gyrphones of the west (from tyrian2000) stuck in my head.
looks like mario.
bla, bla, bla…
Just goes to show you…. Old games weren’t as complicated as the games of today. If you mix the two, the old game seems really easy. anyway.. I’ll make the lvls harder When (if?) I make the rest of the game. Plus, with the amount of lvls in the whole game, it won’t seem as easy as the firts 4 alone.
Hellraiser, can you create super JAZZ bros. World 2?
good levels but forgot some lives and power ups to place like a live in level 2!
Good levels, the ending level link is messed up (no points taken off). I don’t know how you did it, but it’s basically a Jazzed up version of World 1 of Super Mario Land 1, very good job. The platforms that go up and down are messed up. A hurt warp fall error in Level 2, but that’s it. Great level!
Cool. Since you used the same tileset for all levels, why don’t you make 1 world= 1 level? That would make it a bit harder. Also, the warp tube in level 1-2 doesn’t quite work since after beating level 1-4 you land back in level 1-2. otherwise, congrats to the exact getail of the levels.
(sniff)these stuff reminds me of old good Nintendo (8bit one) :) Well, since i used to play that game some years ago i see you made exact copy of original lvl :D Too bad the levels are short and there or not much of lvls :( I gave 8 just becouse idea was nice, music too.
I love Super Mario Brothers! You must continue with World-2
very nice
Eyecandy
Eyecandy is very nice, as it tends to be with Super Mario Brothers tilesets. I’m not sure why, but it’s pretty hard to make a level using that tile set that looks terrible without trying.
Gameplay
Gameplay is OK, but nothing spectacular. It seems fluid, but at points the Mario’s games gripes (like the fact that it is a platformer and Jazz, well, lacks similar platform types) becomes immediate. Still fairly good, though.
Item Placement
Item placement was pretty good, but also not amazing. There was some ammo, some non-ammo items, etc. They were spread out accross the levels but ammo seemed to be a little bit more common towards the end of the levels, which is pretty useless since the levels are about to end anyway. Still, very nice.
Conclusion
This is a good pack overall. The levels are similar, but that’s not a surprise. In fact, throughout my review, I kept accidentally referring to them as one level, which is why it sounds so weird. Good, and worth the download.
This is alright, the music makes it feel like a mario game. I made a level with your tileset where you get to blow Mario and his brother up. Very easy levels, but the queen boss is to far from the edge so it takes to long to beat. I’ll give this a 8.7.
Well, at first i just thougt “oh god, another crappy mario tileset and a few ugly levels” but i was wrong.
The tileset is mario like, and to cartoonish for me to use.
All the levels are exactly like mario, except they are jazz, the enemy placement, the blocks, the backround etc.
The tube idea was ok, buttstomping to go in, and the gems instead of coins, ok.
I would have used Goldcoins though
Nice idea when you fall, you get hurt and warp back up again, that is really interesting and will be used throughout many leves probably. It is much better than just falling endlessly and haing to type in jjk. I just like this pack, and reccoment u to download it if u have time, or just like tilesets and levels copied from other games, other than that, this is an ok pack copying the old old Super mario bros. (I have that game on regualar nintendo btw)
Look, try to make your own levels, all this level are exactly like Mario levels. And one thing… too short and too easy. No secrets in the levels. And you even connot buttsomp the ? markets. But it still worth a 6.0.
it’s me mario.
it’s the same just like mario bros 1
world 1 and the same musics!!!!!
worth for a download.
first: chandie, dont give an 10 becose you like mario
the levels ar funny, eyecandy very funny. nice idea. only its easy( duh, mario is always easy! ). its very good that you putt diamonds-for coins. the boss in level 4 is funny( queen ). the musics ar good. nice! the boss music, the castle level is good! Tilesets ar very good! nice tilesets! you putt everything just like mario wher its standing, thats good.
very good idea.
make world 2 ( if you whant! )
rating from me an 8.7!
GøøÐ JøB
1-2 is unbeatable you get to the end and nothing happens but it is so good i give a 9 it would have been a 10 if i could get 1-2 beaten
(Unsupported rating removal. It’s good that you have a comment to make on this upload, but you still could use more explanation than just “it is so good”. Can you please explain what’s so good about it? What made you want to give this a 10? ~Violet)
