I'm amazed!

Hiya all,

Was rummanging around the net for some music stuff and remembering how cool all of Epic's music was in the days when they were [best] known as Epic Megagames, I got to looking for Jazz stuff...

Anyways, a couple of Google's later and wow - what a site this is!! I had no idea that Jazz 2 even caught on (it didn't really in the UK) let alone manage to survive this many years!

Nice site, cool features, etc. etc.

As for some of the posts I've read...

Source code release
Epic are daft not to release the source code to JJ2; just look at how Doom, Duke3D, Quake 1 & 2 and others (these are just some of the high profile titles) source code has been put to use. Nothing bad of the originating developer/company has come of it whatsoever! Besides, what commercial company would consider a 2D side scroller these days?

Community Bonus Pack
Well, it'd be cool for me as then I'd be able to download one file and get playing!

Is Jazz Dead?
No game is dead whilst it still has players enjoying it! True, there may be less players involved but as long as you get what you want out from it then that's OK?! I still play Colin McRae Rally 2 and Unreal Tournament (yes, *the* original one) and both of these have had massive drop off in the numbers of players supporting them.

Anyways, I've not played any Jazz for years & years! I might have to find the CD and come join in a party - though 'rusty' wouldn't even come close to defining my play ability

Cheers all!

Hey dude welcome here I guess. I think I'll like you.
I Agree I don't see why they won't release the code...

Congratulations. You've taken about ten minutes to realize what it takes several months and sometimes years for most people to.

Glad to see you back, if you are, and otherwise excellent summary of the reality of our current situation. I hope you will be able to stay and play some, and if not, you can always hang around the JCF. We also have a Misc. forum.

Thumbs up

Hi, and WB to the game of JJ2. It hasn't exactly caught on - I'd say there are about 300 people who visit this website frequently. By the way, you found J2O. Congratulations, you win the game of life.

Compared with some sites, thats heaps; the HappyLand Adventures forum had a community of about 50 people for three years before it shut down. [Happyland adventures was a freeware game that you could basically edit anything in.]

WB!
It may not have caught on around any consolidated geographical area, but it has clearly caught on among the load of us. And does this mean we have another UK Jazzer? If so, yay

Excellent. I'm ThO_Odin314 (Yeah, my Name says otherwise, sue me), semi-n00b and good person. It's great to see a new member.

Thanks for the site compliments. You're free to make levels and submit them. First, however, you're gonna want the patches.

First, there's a 1.23 patch out somewhere. The Jazz 2 site's down now, but i'm sure someone's hosting it. After you get that, get the Nimrod-Online Server Patch, in order to see the games straight from JJ2.

After that, you might want to grab a few tilesets and start a career in JCS, creating tilesets or levels. Or, if you're good at creating digital music, get Modplug Tracker or another .mod editor and make some music files for JJ2. Note that, for them to be uploaded to J2O, they must relate to Jazz or be a music pack for a large level pack.

Oh, and you might want to get an IRC client, like mIRC. We have a group of IRC channels, the most popular being #jj2. It's on Quakenet, BTW.

Have fun, and if you want a list of people you should know (and people you should ignore), PM me.
