'The Good Old Days'
Remember the good old days? Remember when newbies and oldies weren't disputed and judged? Remember when all clans were considered a threat? Here's a few thing that may bring back a few memories from the good ol' days...
1) When GpW was God's Promise to Win 2) When Dethman was 'King' 3) When everyone asked: "How do you colour your name?" 4) When Jazz City was alive and thriving 5) When we used to get up in the morning and think about what a day it will be with Jazz Jackrabbit 2 6) When Jazz3 wasn't worried about (Most people didn't know it existed) 7) When everyone thought their clan was the best 8) When I was in FK ![]() 9) When everyone asked how you colour your fur or make no colon in your name 10) When Jazz Jackrabbit wasn't full of people who really started to annoy us (Exept for a certain few) *Cough yoyoma Cough* ![]() 11) When people weren't referred to as 'newbies' 12) When clans didn't destroy online friendships 13) When people like Dark Moogoo and Dethman still played the game And finally, when our community was full of curiousity and playfullness, not disputing about small things in the game. Things like MegaWarp has made gaming a bit boring and useless. Nonetheless, I still love this wonderful game, and I will never forget the joys of waking up, getting some breakfast and playing a quick game of Jazz...

*wipes away a tear*
Man, dat's beautiful. Nope, I won't never forget dem bygone days. Dem sad and lonely...bygone days. *singing voice* MEMORIES! Not a sound from the pavement! Has the moon lost her...umm...rats. Second time I've tried to qoute that song, and I don't remember the rest of it ![]() Oh well. I wish those days would come back. As an old Statler Brothers song said, "My past is looking brighter all the time." ~Buster Fe-HEElings! Wo Wo Wo! |

Well said Magoo! I agree, there's nothing like the old feeling of connecting to the net and staying up till 5 roasting people. Here's some more stuff that may remind you of the old days.
-Tilesets looked like they were made in MS paint. -Everyone wasn't sick of using the Diamondus night tileset. -People never used to say 'Oh no not this level' -People knew you didn't flame the oldies. ![]() -Wakeman was so much more nagable. (Now, I'm afraid to nag him in case I find something nasty in my burger ![]() -When someone threatened to roast you, you took it as a serious threat, unlike today where newbs flame you and try to roast you. -People knew who Martin was. -When the serverlist was more than one page long (:P). -When the oldies and respected people actually talked to you. -When you weren't afraid of having Dizzy on the opposing team. -When DM used to be called MERC (love that name). -When you could call Fquist 'His Sir Quistyness' as much as you want. -When 'Derby:Content Edit' was unrecognised. -We still had the good old JMMB. -When people like Onag, IceWing, Icewolf, Martin, Noraa and others still played. -In the good old days, levels came in truckloads whenever Wakeman had multiple reviews done. -Wakeman was promt and efficient in updating...oh wait, that was my imagnation. ![]() -The main JJ2 site at the time, J2C, had at least one update a week, compared to one update every few months. -The 'Daily' Carrot was actually Daily. -There were less cheating programs. -You could impress people with your level making skills. Now they absentmindedly say 'Oh, yeah, nice, uh huh...' -Bobby, Magoo, EvilMike, Myself, Quo Avek and many others were newbies. -Dethman was 'elusive and hard to find' as opposed to 'Elusive and never around'. -Arjan actually acknowledged that little green rabbit named Jazz. -People didn't use the annoying invisible mode in ICQ as much. BAH!!! DETHMAN STILL IS KING!!!! PHEER THE DETHMAN!!!!
Uhhh, and GpW used to be called God Promise to Win, not Plan, lol Martin was cool ![]() I still call Frankenquist whatever I want, but he was my hero back then. Actually, I used to have a list of heroes: Dethman: The same reason he was everyone else's hero Fquist: Leader of the AMAZING J2LC that I've always wanted to join Martin: This guy still makes the best levels, he just rocks Mez: those tilesets were a beauty! Come on! admit it! Oh, and Wakeman was prompt at a time. I used to upload somehting and the next day it was rated and stuff. I never got that 4.0 - 4.0 i wanted so much though ![]() Heheheh, those were the daayz!

I remember all of those (except that invisible mode thing.. I started using that before most of those other points listed :P)
I especially liked "When DM used to be called MERC (love that name). " Personally, I think EM was a better name than MERC which was better than DM. :P ~Ice M A N back-in-DM |

I should've played online back in 1999 but i didn't, know why? because i didn't know how!
![]() Anyways, i did make some levels and submitted them to Jazz2 City and Universe Jazz got fair ratings back then, only if i submitted them now they wouldn't be that good. And i regret not making myself more "known" back then. So most of what i miss is Jazz 2 City. |

When BULOTW was around... for two weeks.... Nowadays, if that was held, the holder would be soooo unpopular.

I remember those days.. I don't live in them though. It sure would be neat if Dethman and martin would come back and roast me to a crisp again.
(Three LJs posting within a few minutes.. now there's a nice thing)

I really don't care how many times this has been posted. I think the other posts sucked. This one probably brings back memories to Jazzers unlike others.

I think I'm going to hurl
No, I'm serious. I don't mean to be offensive but this topic does make me want to throw up for some odd reason.

Hmmm...I joined the community in the last few months of the "good old days" before it turned into the "new days". So I wasn't really there for very long, but I really think it was better than now. I just liked having more people to talk to, and lots more friends to make, and stuff like that. I liked hotel levels and employee rooms, and I made quite a few of my own. Levels weren't as good, but I didn't care. Now it seems that JJ2 has sort of "squashed" into a hard, flat, stale piece of bread. IIn the "good old days" it was a nice croissant ...mmmmm.... croissants. I just think that people were nicer back then, and there weren't as high expectations, and it was more fun. I think most of you old people will know what I mean.

Good point stripe, and Kaz, though you really didn't make a point (unless hurling is a point
![]() Indeed, we always seem to talk about how good things used to be... If I may qoute scripture, "Do not inquire what was the cause that the former days were better than these, for in so doing you do not inquire wisely". Actually, that's a paraphrase...I hope I got it right ![]() Anyways, point is, we can all sit down and long for the days that are already gone, or we can enjoy the memories and get on with today, and make it something we will also enjoy remembering. Sometimes that's hard though...it's easier to look back than to concentrate on the now. Indeed, I can name numerious instances from my past that I wish were still here...times I remember with a smile, but a bitter-sweet one because those times are gone. The thing is, sometimes the past looks better than the present. In the present, I'm going to college (no, I don't enjoy it, thank you very much, and I could lay out a whole post about why I dislike my current situation so, but that would probably be of little interest to anyone. I'm sure you all have your own gripes in the now.) and there doesn't seem to be as much...fun, smiles, and friendship in my life as I recall in the past. But then...memories are selective. I remember so many good times, so the past seems like a utopia...but practically I know that is not true. It's like wishing that you had been born in another era. A person's sense of romantics may cause him to long for the time of knights and battle-field honor, but logic says that all of the magic would be gone were you to actually live back then, and it would all be as common place and boring as the current state of things is to you now. And yet, the mere fact that when we look back on our lives things look better seems to say that we are really taking things for granted right now. The time will probably come when we will look back on what we are doing now and long for these moments again...which may proove that they weren't so bad after all, but rather we weren't paying enough attention to them to enjoy them while they were here. As the saying goes, Carpe Diem (Sieze the Day) ~Buster |

Hey, you all just mention how nice Jazzin' in the old days has been, and how bad the new days are. I don't know the old days, I play Jazz2 since it has been released, but the first time I played online was in May 2001.
So I just know the new days which most of you don't like (it seems so!). But did you ever think of reasons why they are so bad? You all mention the "rookies". Who is a "rookie"? Someone that starts playing right now? And, for most fo you, someone that is, in addition, bad. But why are they bad? Just watch what happens all the time in our servers: someone, a new Jazzer, perhaps he's playing his first time online, joins a server with good ppl in it. What will they say? I'm sure, and I've already seen this, that they say: "a rook! Ban the rooks". And then this guy is out of the server. This is what you say everywhere you go at the moment. Everyone thinks bad of rooks, but nobody gives them a chance to become better. What would you, for example, have done if you would not have been the first Jazzers? Would you have liked the "old" guys banning you out from every high-quality server? Sure not. But this banning is really the biggest problem of the new days. How can someone become better if he's still banned? That way, you'll only make the "rooks" come together in their own servers. And that way you make them hate you. You probably laugh now, but this is no joke. A community can't survive without new guys, and with your opinion of new players, the Jazz2-community will die, and not in a few years, but earlier. I had luck. For you old guys, I'm a nub with my few months of online-experience. But why had I the luck to become better? I found someone that helped me: Aiko. He helps most german Jazzers (what I am) to become better, at least when he hosts good lvls, and good ppl join. He don't bans the "rooks" them, he lets them take part and play. So they can become better, and perhaps they are no "rooks" any more after a few weeks. Another thing you mention what would be bad in the new days is that nobody knows martins levels. I also didn't know them 2 months ago. But how should I? Nobody hosts them, the old guys run away from the "rooks" to 1.23, and there are still good lvls hosted. The servers with good lvls in TSF are rare, and the most new players got Jazz2 with the SpecialEdition, I think. And this edition installs TSF automatically. So where shall they get 1.23 from, if they can't even contact anyone because they are still banned? Perhaps a dedicated TSF-Server could help... I hope you changed your opinion about the new days a bit now. And if so, we'll perhaps be able to talk about the good old days of 2001/02 in five years... |

When I made bad levels? lol, what brings that up?
![]() Anyways, funny to hear it from you frankenquist since you loved that Air Battle Pack of mine. *points finger at frankenquist* HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA!!! And I don't dis n00bs, I love them, and most of us here remember the old days because they were n00bs at that time. I've never had as much fun in games as the times I was a n00b. It's something you can really enjoy thinking about. If I had the option to lose all my Jazz2 skills this instant and become a true n00b right now I would! Man, it'll be so fun, wondering how people killed me with a huge yellow nuke, not knowing what the hearts mean, thinking a powerup makes you go faster, walking around levels etc. etc. etc. sigh, those were the days ![]()

well, people, you'll have to learn to live with the fact that we live in the present now. after the "good ol' days" always come "good new days". i think playing jazz2 is still as enjoyable as it was years ago.

I recall the good old days as the time I could talk to Noogy about Lori and thus improve the site, write stories...see the art flow in, people share the happiness of the site.
I recall the good old days as the time I joined this board in late 1999, being welcomed warmly and not looked down upon. I recall the good old days that I couldn't play Jazz because my connection was too slow...and even now, it's barely enough... THe last part of the good old days...when I joined WhiteFang's team. Played only once, I remember... But, I'm going to make a last attempt at bringing part of the old days back. LC should be back this month. |

hmm, self analyzation.
I don't think I want to mention the good old days becuase it makes me seem old or at least jazz old and therefore it is truly dying when the old man says to the other remember the good ol days. And what Buster said too. So it's making me sick thinking that we are dying, and it's becoming more likely everyday we are... and so I probably am going to hurl now that I've chugged about two bowls of ramen soup.
