There's a difference between Paint's transparent and overall transparent. Graphics with white (not black) background can be transparent when used in Paint, but when used anywhere else it will not.

I've fixed that by making it :!.

Hmm, is it right to substitute :| with ? It's kind of a backwards compatibility thing, people have been using it as text smiley quite often for a long time, and now all those smileys are (I think?) suddenly converted to an image, which they may not have meant. I can't think of an alternative text that the smiley would replace though..

I also added Violet's smilie >~< (weird symbol, sorry ). If he creates a GIF version (same also goes for the Fooruman smilie), I will replace it.

FQuist, what about :-| ? Or just something unoriginal like :indifferent:. I doubt people will mind too much, but we could change it anyway just in case.

You know what else we should add? The thumbs-up and thumbs-down icons used in the J2O downloads.

No color is transparent for bitmaps.*


(*Technically there are 32-bit bitmaps where there is an alpha channel, but they are very rare, and paint doesn't support them.)

Erm, how do I get the last character for the smiley?

I have always used an l, but that doesn't convert it.

Shift+Backslash

Backslash is probably the key beneath your backspace key.

I don't have such a key. There is a l on the <> key, but I can't seem to activate it.

On a UK keyboard, press shift and '\' (the key just to the right of the left shift key). The symbol actually appears as '¦' on the key, but it produces the correct character.

The thing is, right of the left shift key is the key with the > and < symbols and the l, but no combination of keys made it work for me. The \ is to the right of the 0 for me, by the way.

Well, nevermind, I'll just keep using :l or =l. =D

Can't you put a photo of your keyboard online, so we can see where the key is placed for you?

Erm. The | on German keyboards can be activated by pressing Alt Gr and the <> key at the same time. Also, you could click on the smily in the window that opens when you click on "More" under the smilies on the advanced reply page..

I don't have a scanner, so I can't post a photo.

However, Faw already told me how to do it, and it works. =D (I thought alt and the other alt were the same thing though)

Erm, I still have to find out how to activate this advanced reply thing. ;D

(I guess it's in the user control panel somewhere)

This seems to happen with all smilies. It might be because of the closing > of the img HTML tag. I'll investigate this further, but in the meantime, is there another symbol that could be used for >)?
