Download bug fix for Orbitus level 2.

http://www.zshare.net/download/127970988ad6de2b/

I just found this on YouTube. For everyone that just can't seem to get past that nightmare-ishly difficult part in Orbitus Level 2, download this and extract it to your Jazz1 file folder, it will make it sooooo much easier to pass that tricky part.

Video of bug fix (this is not my video):

I just downloaded it, and I must say it really works!

It's good somebody fixed this, orbitus level 2 is easily the worst level in JJ1. Actually even with this problem fixed it might still be the worst level...

That's the only level of jj1 that I never got past. Nice to see a fix for it.

Well, it's actually still some form of cheating, so you might as well just take the easy road and help yourself to the airboard code. It's not as if anyone is going to blame you

Hypothetically this lowers the risk of seeing the cheating screen, but then I'm not quite sure what the criteria are for that anyway...

I've never seen the cheating screen in any episode other than the first.

This fix would have been good if the floor no longer looked as if it was a bouncepad. Presumably the event was removed manually, without J1CS?

The bounce pads are still active, but the edges aren't. Hence falling off the first platform and running all the way over to the right. I don't know if this was the way it was originally supposed to be though, so it kind of leaves you to wonder. It makes more sense that way if you think about it though.

In some versions of jj1 the level works like this, and it's beatable (still very annoying though). In other versions it's practically impossible. For some reason jj1 is like that, there are a bunch of versions floating around with minor differences in the levels, and different bugs. For example, there's a version where tubelectric level 2 is nearly impossible to beat. The one with the broken orbitus level just happens to be the most common.

This is the way I used to do it, and it always worked eventually, after lawd knows how many attempts...

When you're aiming for that first passage, you should fall into the column with Jazz's face partially hidden behind the side bounce pads, but make sure you can see the white of his eyes. If you don't, you're too far in.

After you get onto that first platform, the tricky part is timing your jump at the end of it so that you head upwards to the right to the second platform, and don't accidentally hit the ceiling which will send you down to the bounce pad and bounce you back up, forcing you to restart again.

THIS IS THE TRICKIEST PART. When you get onto the second platform, you have to jump somewhere in the middle of the next bounce pad. Once you're airborne, you have to edge your way to the right steadily, and time it just right so that Jazz will reach the last platform the VERY MOMENT he is level with it. You can't hit the wall before you make it on, because it will stop your right-ward movement leaving you to be bounced back up. And you obviously can't fall short either because the bounce pad will reach you before the wall does. Staying all the way over on the right wall will not work either because the passageway is too tight, and you won't have enough right-ward momentum to avoid being captured by the bouncepad above, propelling you upwards before Jazz can even think about setting a foot on that platform. If you edge your way to the right, it helps because you will have built enough right-ward momentum that will fight off the upward bounce above, and increase Jazz's chances of hitting the ceiling of the last platform.

Again, multiple tries.

After the second platform, I always try to bump into the left bouncing wall and press down at exactly the right moment. After some ten minutes of trying, I usually succeed.
Remember to use Ctrl + T for slow motion if you can't cope with the extremely subtle timing. Makes it lots easier.

Hey guys, this is Sonic The Jackrabbit (The creator of the fix.)

First off, I'd like to thank everyone who downloaded this fix.

Last year, I purchased a copy of Jazz 1 from Epic Classics. I never encountered any issues playing it until I got up to Orbitus Act 2. At first I thought it had a problem installing the game. I tried reinstalling Jazz. No luck. I tried installing Holiday Hare over it. No luck. Then I tried the shareware version and ultimately episodes 2-6 were intact and I was able to complete the level. At this point I knew there was something wrong. Believe or not, the shareware version of Jazz is based on the orginal floppy engine. It seemed that the CD version ran at a much more faster FPS than the orginal version and thus skipped many things. (Like that part in Medivo Act 1 were you can finish the rest of the level with the hoverboard, where's in the orginal version you'd lose the hoverboard at one point.) Then I found another version of the full game on the Internet (Don't even dare think of asking me where to get it!!!), that had another version of the level where you could complete it without any problems. I decided to see if I could copy the level file to my purchased copy's directory, and see if it fixed the problem. And it did. The only problem was that some of the sprites and the tileset were a bit messed up. So I copyed the Orbitus Sprites & Tileset files from the downloaded copy to the genuine copy. Then it worked fine. (Note: This is not illegal because this requires certain episode files in order to acess the level. And those files were not copied onto the fix's folder so it is completely 100% safe.)

Anyway, I heard that some people had trouble with Tubelectric Act 2 on some versions of Jazz. It seems like this problem does not occur on the orginal shareware version. Perhaps i'll tackle this problem in the future & try copying the Tubelectric level files from the shareware version and see if it fixes the problem.

Whew, that was sure a long post. See ya later, guys.

- Sonic

I always really liked that level a lot. It's definitely one of the better Jazz Jackrabbit 1 levels. It's not that hard actually. Episode 2 had more harder levels.

The CD version has a bug making it a lot harder than it's supposed to be.

Does anyone still have that patch?

You can make your own patch by using a Jazz1 level editor. Look through the J2O downloads center.
