That oozes class.
I'm not going to point out that you should recolor the cave tiles to use #000000 because I bet you already figured that ![]()

Brilliant. I'm not sure I'm sold on the sky color, though.

The background color is a gradient of light blues, greens and yellows. I picked it because there's no way I'm ever going to be able to replicate the original Carrotus background. Anyone who is interested in the tileset can just mail me though, and I will send it over. |

You've mastered the waz style. Looks neato.

Your use of colour is very good but I would actually suggest changing the background behind the windows somewhat. The colour is good, but if you look closely you will see it has a "checkerboard" pattern when it comes to the individual pixels. This may look fine in a cropped screenshot like that, but played in full screen patterns like that can become rather ugly.
|
Apr 30, 2009, 01:51 AM | |
It has a checkerboard pattern because it's a textured background with a transparent yellow tile over it, on a screenshot from JCS
![]() There's two separate textured backgrounds available in the set plus a few single-color tiles that can be used for overlays, so it should easily be possible to make a background like that in-game too. Violet: thanks, but that might be a bit too much credit for me. While I've left very few tiles untouched, most of this is still taken from various Waz sets. The set began as an updated version of Waz 11, but though the bulk of the set is still from there I've included some things from his other sets (for example the curtains) too. |

Waz is kind of interesting because he made so many tilesets, and a number of them are pretty good, but none of them got higher than 8 on j2o. Also he made most of them for tsf, which doesn't help. Definitely one of the more underrated tileset makers. |
Apr 30, 2009, 03:44 AM | |
Yeah, I guess JCS's preview rendering uses that instead of JJ2's render style for whatever reason.
I converted all of Waz's sets to 1.23 a while ago, I just don't know what the best way to upload them would be. Last edited by Stijn; Apr 30, 2009 at 07:19 AM. |

As for the best way to upload the tilesets, I recommend simply putting them in a zip file and sticking it on j2o as one big pack. And it would probably be a good idea to set the upload to not accept reviews, and instead tell people to rate the individual tilesets that were uploaded by Waz himself. And if you want to put in extra effort, you can link to all the individual uploads in the download info. I think uploading in this way would be fair. I think it would be a good idea to upload them too. |

Yes, you were totally mistaken.
I just included it for completeness' sake. Also, I don't know who did it, but I'd appreciate it if you don't mess with the rating options I set for the pack. I allowed N/A reviews so people could leave comments about omissions or mistakes or whatever. |

Looks great! Would be also nice if you added some more common, peasant japanese houses. Also, a rising sun styled textured background like in Blade's desert tileset would fit greatly, I think.
...and pink flower trees! Those would be awesome!

This looks like a good tileset, and I like the hand drawn look, but those blue-ish background tiles might be a bit problematic. If you look at the green rocks that stand out, you'll see they form a sort of grid pattern. Also, the contrast is fairly high, and it can be seen that it is just one tile repeating over and over. I would suggest adding more tiles so the BG is more natural looking.
Now that I think of it, the same applies to the leaf texture in the first screenshot. There is a grid of large oval shaped leaves (two in each tile) which stands out. Again, more variation would solve the issue. |

Variation is the key to a fruitful life... or something. Nice looking tileset, indeed, can't wait for this.
And yes, it needs pink blossom trees! |
May 3, 2009, 08:45 AM | |
yes! and maybe some fountains with sculptures. and especially many and big bushes. and maybe be able to use some indoors things.. with japanese tables etc. and one of those wooden doors
![]() and do you know those fireballs in the heaven tileset by agama? you can do this trick aswell using ninja stars. and maybe add some clouds. MEH so many ideas i gon explode. never saw a japanese tileset in jj2. keep up the work. ![]()
