Pinball compatible tilesets
I'm looking for tilesets that work with pinball events properly, in other words where the colours don't look distorted. I need them for a level pack I'm making. Paddles and 500 bump events should at least look alright, carrot bumper compatibility is a nice plus too. Other nice plusses would be moving floors and V/H-poles. I've picked two tilesets so far (industrius evening and a labrat conversion). I am not looking for a particular theme, I'll get whatever is there since they seem suprisingly hard to come by. I'm aware tubelectric is pinball compatible too, but I'd like to use something other than that.

Hmm, it seems that a lot of Jazz conversions are pinball compatible (yes including some conversions that Violet didn't make), but I wonder if they are any original tilesets that are pinball compatible as well? By no means conversions are any bad, though. I'm all for using them if I need to.

Seriously, though, it's all a matter of palette. You're not going to find many tilesets with working carrot bumpers, because that pretty much requires a conscious decision to get to work, but flippers will look decent in pretty much any tileset drawn pixel by pixel (instead of drawn using texture effects and such and then later automatically reduced to use the right number of colors). 500 bumpers are a little trickier but will often look all right as long as the tileset isn't too dark, because they need to work well with that rogue white color. So I guess, no, there's no list, but the tilesets you should be checking are the ones that look like they were drawn by hand. Palmtree Plaza as opposed to Nature's Ruins; that sort of thing. |

Nice tutorial page. Now, if only they could tell you how to find tileset-making talent...

Desolation and Odyssey (probably all their variations) have good 500 bumpers and flippers but carrot bumpers look awful. Windstorm Fortress clearly tried to make all three look good but the 500 bumper has one palette entry way too bright so it ends up looking pretty bad.
