You forgot the option "No, I just wouldn't use it."
I just think that windows games should be kept to windows. It probably doesn't work flawlessly, and it is probably slower than on windows, and there is really no point of running it in linux when you can run it perfectly in windows. I guess also I wouldn't use it because my linux computer is sssssssssslllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwww at 60MHz. JJ2 barely runs on there in windows, let alone linux.

I think Linux is muchhhh better than Windows!
Windows sucks! Im going to change to RedHat or Lycoris...... I think...... On next week maybe. |

Most people who say Windows sucks have never even used Linux or any other OS than Windows. This also explains why I don't think Windows sucks. I think we all should start to get some respect for the programmers at Microsoft since it's not their fault our systems are instable, it is our own fault. We install every crappy program we can download or get elsewise.
Also, I think Linux is a chaos to work in. There are no standard elements to the interfaces which causes programmers to use their own code which makes all programs look different, and work different. And also to get your hardware runnign in some distros can be a pain. There's no way I'll be using any Linux distro full time instead of Windows in the comming few years. Anyway, enough Linux talk. I wouldn't use it since 1) Jazz runs fine on my stable Windows machine and 2) There's no way I have any advantages why to run it on Linux. And btw, didn't anyone notice that this has been done before by Cheeze? |

Now, don't go understand me wrong because I said *some* distros. I know that it's no problem with most distros, i.e. Mandrake also gives excellent hardware support.
I also think most Linux users who just use it to not be part of the mainstream should buy a mac ![]() |

As for the first part...that's completely untrue. There are many "standard" libraries that linux coders use...Mesa, glibc, gtk, qt, just to name a few. But if you don't like linux, and like something else, feel free to. I just like linux. ;p As running jazz2 under wine, i've done that before and found that it ran quite well. It was a little while ago, but i think everything worked, aside from the registry (which is fixable, you just look around in the config files). The speed was also just as fast as windows. -cheeze |

With WineX Jazz runs flawlessly.
Though, in windowed mode, it runs really slowly. However, since I got my shared internet connection, I can only play Jazz online with windows. I'll be looking into better router software once the holidays start, though, so perhaps soon I won't have to keep rebooting my computer. Why do I use Linux? -Free software. Okay, so windows has more free software, but the Linux stuff, in my experience, is better. -Fully customisable interface. Well, this may also be true with Windows XP, but that costs a packet. -You can configure anything. -It has better support for my video card than Windows 98. Which is really wierd. |

Router? Why not just pick up two network cards and an old box? After all, a cheap router is one of the best linux uses. ;p
As for WineX, i did download it and compile it and it ran pretty nicely. But in order to get full speed, you'll need to run jazz2 in DirectDraw mode, but you'll have to play around to get all your keys to be focused on jazz2, which is a little funny with WineX, and i don't think i've had that problem with wine. -cheeze |

I have confilcting views here...
They should'nt bother with other OS's cos Windows is the bomb...and it is the fasted OS I've come across... But on the other hand, in order to get healthy competition for Windows, other OS's have to start off somewhere eg. slow in well-loved games until they get better and faster. So either way its good. I recon just wait and see what happens.

2. Linux is free 3. Linux is growing up now to an easy-to-use OS 4. You can configure Linux any way you want 5. Linux is faster than Windows 6. Try out Lycoris Desktop/LX today, it's free 7. With Wine and WineX you can play JJ2 just fine.

OK..lemme correct myself...Windows is the fastest for games (Except NT and 2000). As far as linux being free...if lots of work was out into it, it would cost...nothing good come for free...well, not in pc software anyway. Besides, why get free Linux when you already have Windows that you paid for...why waste that money?
Obviously there are some exceptions to that but they are few and far between. Then again, there is always something that comes and bites you on the arse and there is your foot in your mouth...

I was about to install Linux, but then I found GIMP for Windows. Now I'm in bliss.
(it wouldn't really work anyway, because all of my hard drives are fully formatted in NTFS) |

Sorry for going on a little rant about that, but that's just some things I've thought about on the subject. I personally haven't switched to Linux yet, but only because I need another computer to do so. Half the programs I continuously run now were originally developed for Linux, so I already know there are several programs that I can rely on.

Yeah, but i've heard GIMP for windoze is a little buggy. ;p
But if you did want to install linux, it would be good to download a partition edittor an make room for a nice journaled filesystem, like ReiserFS, ext3, etc. Anyway, linux can read and write NTFS from NT 4.0, but Microsoft threw a new version of NTFS when win2k came out, and i think linux can only read it (although it's been a while, so i don't know..) -cheeze |

I wouldn't really want to switch. NTFS is much more reliable than FAT32 and with my RAID setup it is way faster than a normal FAT32 setup and perhaps even a FAT32 setup in my position.
I usually use PartitionMagic... and I'm running XP so it might even be another iteration of NTFS. I read a recent article on anandtech and they said Linux can only read NTFS. I still have yet to find one reason to install Linux. ;P |
