Gamepoint

GamePoint is one of the first multiplayer dedicated networks in Europe. It started in 1996. They are located in the Netherlands, so Dutch people could dial in for free and play on their (in that time) super fast network. They started out with Quake but later on they decided to add more games, and Jazz Jackrabbit 2 was among them.

History

In September 1997, Gamepoint started the tournament organisation ClanBase which became independent in 1998 and would later become the largest clan-based multiplay organisation of Europe. The Jazz Jackrabbit community tried to bring a cup or ladder on ClanBase, and collected signatures, but the project sadly failed because there was no interest from the organisation’s side.

In July 1999, GamePoint together with Project2 interactive started a Jazz Jackrabbit 2: The Secret Files battle tournament in which people could join and win 500 Euros or Jazz Jackrabbit related goodie bags which contained a mousepad, a T-shirt and a lighter, all TSF-themed.

Project2 Interactive later held two more Jazz Jackrabbit contests with 500 euro prizes, one of which was a contest for the best JJ2 slogan. The other was a JCS contest, won by a nine year old girl nicknamed Carrotz.

Tournament results

The top 3 of the aforementioned tournament was:
  1. ShadowGpW
  2. Spy AD
  3. Giant[GpW]

GamePoint today

In 2003 GamePoint changed their strategy and stopped their multiplayer gaming network. They started to focus on website projects like Gamer.nl and Spelpunt.nl.
