JCS.ini

JCS.ini is the file that Jazz Creation Station uses to store information about events, tile types, textures, etc. The file follows the Windows standards for INI files, and can be read and/or edited using notepad or any basic editor.

For some events, especially added by JJ2+, you may edit your JCS.ini to make them appear in the right section with an appropriate name.
For example, the Trigger Zone event is known by Jazz Jackrabbit 2 but is not included in JCS.ini.

Adding Events

Adding Trigger Zone to the list of events in JCS requires editing your JCS.ini file with any suitable text editor, like notepad. You Microsoft Word or other word processing software are not recommended, as they are not designed to handle plain text files.

To add the event to JCS.ini, replace the line beginning so:

246=

with (note that the following should be treated as a single line):

246=Trigger Zone |+|Trigger|Trigger|Zone|TriggerID:5|onoff:1|switch:1

If you do not wish to edit your JCS.ini file, a version containing this event can be downloaded here.

Changing Names

It is possible to change the displayed names of events by editing JCS.ini. This can be useful, by ammending the event names to include a short description or translate your JCS.ini in another language. As an example, the Snow event (#238) can be renamed to include the description “Creates snow in level”.

To edit an event, find the event name in the JCS.ini file, and change the name as required. Event names cannot contain the pipe ‘|’ symbol, and the entire string must be on a single line. So to modify the description of the Snow event would require changing the line:

238=Snow |+|Scenery |Snow |Particles

to read:

238=Snow (Creates snow in level)|+|Scenery |Snow |Particles
