Let's make a tileset!
Okay, kids, the project for this month is a tileset. And you can ALL contribute! Here's how it works.
![]() Each week (3rd-9th, 10th-16th, 17th-23rd and 24th-30th), any given person may submit one single tile. All tiles will make it into the final tileset! A few base rules for submitting your tiles:
(Obviously, a single one tile block is going to be the most usable tile, but let's see some variety, people!) |

seems fun, let's see what I can come up with.
n00bs current list of what he'll do for each week, and the tile when submitted. Week 1- Small tileset enemy-ish thing(also useful as a signpost... or a thermos) Submitted!(Obvious warning: Please change white to the uppermost leftmost tile's color) ![]() Week 2-Layer 5 Background(day) (Thought this would work better as one) ![]() Week 3- Random Eyecandy tile(Or a hook)-Curse you vacation! This Entry is too late, and unless rollover is enabled will not appear- Week 4-A vine.(Edited to continue Violet's Viney peice)-Summer camp == Not ever seeing this tile unless rollover is enabled- Don't let my plans limit anyone else, if you want to make a vine tile, go ahead. A tile a week sounds like torture, but okay.

Yes... people should be cooperative, not spend the whole month making their own platform type with no connection to anything else in the tileset.
blur: It's better than one a month... the idea is kind of that after drawing one tile, people will want to do more, so they'll start making tilesets, which aren't too common these days somehow. |

Ground top tile created from ground middle tile:
![]() I think someone should create an alternate ground middle tile for more variation. Edit: Changed the tile so it's less flat. I hope this isn't against the rules.

I might've posted something already if EvilMonkey's ground tile appeared less flat. Although, there could be another ground tile on top of it casting a shadow. Hmm...

Week 2 begins! We've got three tiles so far... let's get rolling! *will draw something later on*

![]() Week two will be over in a few hours, I guess. Get stuff in please. |

Some sort of rollover feature would be great, but I guess I can't expect that to be implemented.

I can't see the vine. Violet's latest tile looks like a vine, however.

I reckon you need to keep going for many more weeks.
I may submit something... but don't hold your breath. ![]() EDIT: *Ding* ![]() Last edited by Alister; Jul 21, 2005 at 11:38 PM. |

I think I need to edit my floor tile now...
Edit: Changed the tile so it's less flat. I hope this isn't against the rules. |

Meh, haven't been paying attention to the calendar. I guess it's the fourth week and stuff. Finish up time.

Extend by about:
Until we have a finished tileset? |
Jul 26, 2005, 05:45 PM | |
It doesn't make much sense to extend the deadline. The lack of tiles is because people aren't interested in taking five minutes to draw a 32x32 pixel image, not because they don't have the time right now but will later.

I usually don't make a tileset one tile at a time. From what I can tell, one big problem with group projects such as this one is a lack of theme and direction. If everyone doesn't have the same general idea in mind, the project will most likely fail. Then again, most people didn't have much interest in making a tileset anyway, which was one of the reasons this thread was created.

Hold up! Some of us just can't use image hostings!

I lose.
![]() It's most of the entries above (minus n00b's second image since it couldn't tile) with a few edits plus some additional tiles I've made. I can only wonder what Violet's reaction will be to my blatant disregard for his rules (or at least the 4th rule). I also wonder what would have become of this project if everyone was allowed to add whatever they wanted at any time.

I don't think I'm missing anything, aside from the tiles that some people said they would post but haven't yet. It might be a good idea to get in some different types of tiles (for example the difference between the yellow blocks and red bricks in Tube Electric).

By putting all those tiles together like that, it will be much easier for ppl to see what kind of theme their tile needs to be, so hopefully you'll have less problems on that front.

Interesting. My reasoning behind the one tile thing was that I didn't expect people would actually try to make things compatible - I expected a black tile, a letter block, a random ground thing, maybe a spike, just lots of random stuff like some tilesets are actually composed of. You are perhaps right that it would have made more sense to let people add more than one tile, maybe without the weekly thing.
...I'd try that next month, but I'm not going to be home for much of it... if anyone else wants to try a freer version of this, go ahead. |

I created a stomp block to go along with the other stuff.
![]() Well, I can't decide whether or not to make it green so it blends in, because that would be hard to see. Somebody pick a color. Here is the one we chose! ![]() Last edited by ÄÉæÛÕ; Jul 28, 2005 at 03:12 PM. |

Needs a bigger exclamation mark, imo, or at least one in a slightly more contrasting colour. Unless you really do want the tileset all green.
