Jazz not up for licensing

Dobermann Software

Doing a little more digging on Dobermann’s game, I found this post. It looks like Dobermann contacted Epic Games about licensing Jazz for his windows phone application, and received the following response (back in November):

I admire your enthusiasm. Unfortunately the Jazz Jackrabbit license is not available. I am afraid we cannot license the JJ IP to you for this project.

Have fun reading into “not available.” If nothing else, looks like we won’t be seeing a sequel to JJA.

“If nothing else, looks like we won’t be seeing a sequel to JJA.”

At last, the 10 year long suspense is over!

Sounds like good news. If they’re not interested in licensing it, they must still be interested in developing it themselves.

Either that or they still feel ashamed of what GameTitan did with it ten years ago.

I wonder what is up with epic not wanting anything done with Jazz. They won’t let others make a fangame/port/whatever, and they won’t make an official one themselves. It seems like they just want it to fall into obscurity, despite Cliffy restating it every now and then. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fate of JJA.

TreyLina: Well, the thrust of that email is more “you can’t sell a fangame” then “you can’t make a fangame,” I think, unless there are more that wasn’t pasted.

The least I hope Epic could do, concerning the Jazz license, is to consider putting the original game and JJ2 up on GOG.com some time in the near future. I mean, they already put the Unreal games on there, Which in my eyes aren’t exactly ‘old’ compared to the average game on there.

Then they at least put the Jazz IP to use and we have a legal download alternative to refer new Jazzers to. ;)

I truly do not understand why Epic is so adverse to selling the games they’ve already made.

Hmm… Maybe this is just them not wanting other people making money off Jazz? Or maybe there’s a secret project(Jazz Jackrabbit 3 or a HD Remake of Jazz 1 for PSN/XBLA) going on that we don’t know about yet?

Seren on 21 Mar 2012 at 17:12

A secret project that Epic is working on for over 6 years? Jazz Jackrabbit Forever perhaps?

Epic Games eventually create a secret new game Jazz Jackrabbit in secret?
