A 2½, this is one of the worst tilesets I’ve ever seen.

I love this tune. It’s the first remix of Dreempipes I have heard that really shakes up the normal Dreempipes formula.
If you get my drift.

This thing is hideously overrated. The most important tiles, the ones which form the platforms you’ll probably walk on, look like some quick 10 second Paint job. They come in two flavours: tiles with an ugly funky multicoloured stone texture and tiles with some strange red and yellow texture. Both offer very little variationa and will look horrible when used to create big structures.

The eyecandy tiles generally look a little better. Some of them are even shaded (I like the Roman-style collumns), and offer sufficient possiblities to make your level look better. Too bad some of it has that same 10-second-point-job look as the platform tiles, because your level simply doesn’t look good when half of it has been made with shaded decent-looking tiles and the other half was made with tiles that look like they were copied from a first-generation set. When it looks good, it’s not always usable: too many of those funny balloons, for example, make your level look very repetitive.

On the contrary, the layer 6/7 eyecandy looks pretty good. There’s a mountain scene with tower castles showing behind it, and a simple 3D water scene, which does its job. You can easily make a level look like if it’s situated in a lake surrounded by castles and mountains, or something. There are some original fireworks animations to place above the castles, too.

Apart from the basic platform and eyecandy tiles, this tileset contains a lot of text. The quality of those tiles matches the eyecandy’s: it varies. Some text is shaded and looks good, some text looks like unedited cursive Arial, and like one third of it can only be used to say you’re a JSZ member or the tileset was created by a JSZ member or whatever.

I normally don’t care about the “event compatibility” other reviewers seem to value highly, but I think this tileset receives some extra attention for it ;). All palette-specific events seem to work, and there are even tiles to place those poles on. All destruct scenery is there too: even the ice blocks. The belts are animated and look pretty good, though they don’t really fit in with the platforms because those are 2D and the belts are semi-isometric-3D.

If I understood correctly, this set uses 920 tiles instead of 1020 because it would contain so much animations. And indeed it does. However, those have the same problem as almost all other types of tiles: some look bad, some look good. The spinning plates with the Jackabbrit family’s heads on it look quirky, but the fireworks look decent. Overall, it’s nothing special and some of the animations could well have been left out in favour of some more useful tiles.

So, this tileset is not as good as you may conclude out of Avarte’s review. It has a lot of tiles, sure, and some look pretty good, but there are too many badly-looking or not really useful tiles in the tileset and the platforms, as I said the most important part of your level, look horrible. However, where this set misses out on platform element completeness it compensates with its massive amount of event-specific tiles (tubes, blocks and the rest). I wouldn’t recommend downloading it, though: I don’t think anyone would use this for a level while there are so many betetr sets out there. If you really insist on giving your level a “casino”-look, use Chiyu’s set.

Introduction:
This is what happens when someone from the Sonic Adventure generation takes a stab at a Jazz Jackrabbit song.

Song Analysis:
The lyrics are pretty good and fairly well sung. The song itself is pretty much the same ol’ Turtemple theme, but with square waves and triangle waves instead of actual real samples.

Sample Analysis:
As mentioned, square and triangle waves were used most of the song. Some real-sounding drums, a “fly-by” sound from Star Control II, and a couple others sounds were thrown in for the Heck of it, apparently. Let me be the first to tell you. . .if you’re going to go with real lyrics, don’t use freaking square and triangle waves. Compose a beautiful piece of music, by hand, using some real samples. Okay? Okay.

Final Analysis:
Ya know. . . This would be an absolutely freaking awesome Sonic Adventure-style song. . .if you hadn’t used Famicom-style samples for the background music! You fail!! 3.2 out of 10.0!!! This is also an insult to Jazz Jackrabbit fans. As mentioned above, get yourself a real arrangement of Turtemple, then add the lyrics in. Once you do, I can almost gaurentee I will give you a very high score, depending on the quality of the arrangement. Your heart’s in the right place. Really. But focus on the music, not the lyrics. . .

I do not recommend this file for download on the grounds that, even though it has sung lyrics, the lyrics are meaningless with the quality of music behind it.

I always liked those casino levels from Sonic. And, I like this tileset because of that. It’s a shame that you had to take out so much from the original though.

I pretty much agree with Haze. I just want to make some suggestions.

This song has some potential, but I can tell it’s mostly a copy and paste job from the original songs, which is okay, as long as you change around the way the notes are used to fit the instrument. I see countless places where a tone portamento or offset should be used, but is absent. You should also make sure to change around the key of the samples. Two different samples could have different initial keys when first loaded, so you’ll have to test them out by ear and then manually adjust. Most of what I hear in this song sounds really offkey.

… ouch. It’s horribly out of tune. No, really. A novel idea, I’ll give you that. But it sounds like absolute hogwash like this.
I for one know you can do a lot better than this. And maybe an orchestral arrangement is just not the thing for you. If you do however want to pursue something in the direction of another orchestral arrangement, try looking up some more information. Especially when doing something like this it’s handy to know where each instrument is positioned in an orchestra and what it can and cannot do. (think of real instruments and how they are played)

This actually sounds good to me, with the good samples, but the notation implementation is something I will pick on.

Pros
The arrangement of the song is excellent! It’s very catchy, and something I’d listen to while fragging the (beep) out of my opponents.

Cons
Might need some working on one or two of the samples. The cymbal crashes are kind of hit ‘too often’ which kind of adds a bit of repetitiveness.
There’s some notations there unnecessarily transposed around near the end of the song, and throughout. (The new-age-like samples)
If you could fix the transposition problems, I promise to change the rating! :)

Okay, here is mine review.

Firstly, I must say this is your best JJ remix ever, JSZ Jazz. Difference, what’s between the original and this remix is big as Mount Everest placed at the highest mountain in the world (err… what’s the name of it?). And thanks to God, to the better.

Okay, we have totally awesome new melodies perfectly fitting into original song. And here’s the problem. That melody is played by too over-pitched piano, it hurts ears sometimes. My ears survived, but what ears of others???

Harmony is okay in 95 % of song, just sometime it doen not pan out. And this is good, cause this is JSZ Jazz’s mix.

Sample choice is delicious, bass line and piano (except that high-pitched sample 8) are without any reservations. Rhythm is stylish, it’s made very well.

(+) New melodies fitting to original
(+) Samples
(+) Rhythm
(-) High-pitched piano

So, this piece gets download recommendation from me. It’s for originality, for sounding, for that how the remix should look. Good also for games.

TIP (Tip mark gets music with 8+ rating)

This should be removed, it sounds like the main title from Dr Robotnik’s Bean Machine. (Or it may not be, I haven’t played that game in ages)
(Unsupported rating (1) removal. I’m not quite sure what you’re trying to say here… it’s an exact rip? In that case, it would be advisable for you to actually play the game and check, as I doubt anyone else here is able to do it for you. ~Violet)
