this sucks.the only point of this upload is that you can have sugar rush in coop ,because in SP you can write jjrush.in coop is kind useless because, like Moonblaze said, only the server can be hurt by enemies.if you dont want to cheat in sp,then collect 100 food.this is actually a cheating program, that is kinda illegal in two points:
A.the cheating programs uploads are illegal on jazz2online
B.only big and fat people use cheats and cheating programs.
download reccomendation:yes,if you are a big and fat cheater.no,if you are clever and don’t use cheats.

A very useful program!
For people like me, who have over 1000 levels in their Jazz2 directory, this is a must-have. It’s pretty easy to use, too.
Pros: Simple layout, easy to use, etc. Good that it shows wether they are passworded or not, and wether they show in HC levels or not.
Cons: Only mode available is Single Player (well yea. but still); the levels are in a seemingly random order which apparently can’t be seen. It always jumps to the same file if you type a single letter, so you need to type multiple to find what you’re looking for.
Overall: One of the most useful programs around. A must-have. Some features are still missing (mainly the order thing), which prevent this from being a 10.
A solid 9 from me.

This file is pretty useless. If you want a sugar rush instantly, just type in jjrush. But that’s for cheaters. And you need 100 food for a sugar rush.
There is no point in using this.

Great program! I can search for the levels without having to scroll through all 782 levels in my JJ2 folder! I have that many! This is a must if you have more than 256 levels.

Any plans for new versions yet?

BTW, character selection works fine on mine.

DR: YES!!
Score = 9

EDIT: I now have 1049 j2l files!

EDIT 2: I have come up with some suggestions of what should be in the next version of CC. There should be an option that lets you choose whether you want to play in 1 or 2 player and be able to choose what mode you want to do it in.

I completely agree with n00b, but I don’t think this deserves a 5.3

This pack is pretty original. You are inside an operating system and have to flip switches and find root keys to gain access to other parts of the OS. This makes the pack a bit like a puzzle, but sometimes you don’t know what to do next and need to search through the whole level to find a difference somewhere.
The second and third levels are much the same, but they’re a lot shorter than the first level.
The eyecandy isn’t that good, but this isn’t required for an OS, and the tileset hardly has eyecandy tiles.
There are a few enimies, like dragonfly’s and turtles, but I don’t think they fit in an OS (or have they escaped from the Jazz Jackrabbit window?). Also there are hardly any secrets.
Still I don’t think this pack deserves a 5.3. It’s fun to play through and has an amusing – but sadly a bit overused – gameplay.

Fun 4/6
Eyecandy 3/6
Gameplay 3/6
Event placement: 3/6

This gives you a 6.2

If there’s one thing I’m mostly relible for, it’s reviewing SP packs. And if theres one thing those level packs are relible for, it’s bland, repetive gameplay and horrible level design. Ok, so that’s two things. Anyways, the thing that makes this pack unique is that despite being tedious, the gameplay isn’t anything like most SP uploads I’ve reviewed recently.
System Crash answers the question: What if by some odd chance Jazz accidently broke through those gray lines that form a protective case around him?
The answer is flip switches, find root keys, and stop viruses.
When you first enter the realm outside JJ2, you find yourself in a Recycle bin.
From there you collect a program, and learn that the blue bars of each program is ussually climbable. From there you go from one place to the next flipping triggers and stopping the occansional enemy.
It’s a unique idea, but after the first few switch flippings, the format wears thin. “Flip switch, enter program, return to main hub” Is mainly what you do for all of the first level. As I said, it becomes repetive fast, and the level rarely tells you where to go, forcing you to remember the state of each ‘utility’ in the Control Panel so that way you’ll know which switch to flip next. But don’t worry, if you dont get confused on where to go, the level will be over fast.
The second level introduces a bit of a storyline, the virus S474N has entered the computer. ‘S474N’ is just a bubba boss, and you even have a sheild to fight him off with. Anything before the boss is not worth talking about.
The last level is a contination from the second(lots of packs are doing this now.) You enter the control program for the virus, and will need to uninstall it. This mixes the now bland trigger flipping of the first level, with some enemies tossed in. Some areas in the control room are a waste of time and health, and I don’t see why they were included other than to have more things to shut down. Once you get to the uninstall console, uninstalling is as easy as Stomping and then jumping.Which then returns you to the original area which then loops you back to the first level.
Other than a few 1ups, there are no secrets so replaying it is really worthless.
The tileset has some major masking problems that got Jazz stuck in various areas he couldn’t get out of, otherwise it’s one of the best windows conversions you can use.
Final Thoughts: This pack seems unique and innovative at first, but after a while it starts to feel the same. It’s worth one play through since it’s a great break from the usual SP packs uploaded. The tileset is a wonderful Windows XP conversion, but theres some masking problems that can limit it’s use. The boss fight felt way to easy, and the arena could’ve deffently have been improved.
Bleh that’s one of my worst reviews. Next review goes back to the old format, be there!
Final Information:
Download Reccomendation?: Yes, it’s only 3 short levels so playing through all of it isn’t going to be a huge waste of time. Plus despite some masking errors, the OS tileset is better than the Windows 98 tileset here at J2O. And the music files aren’t too bad either.
Final Score- 5.3 Despite the fact it was monotinus, it’s charm and erm, differentness from most recent JJ2 levels, gives it a boost in score.

Well, this is very usefull for people that makes many levels, or download much to review them (like DX :P). Also it’s for me a must, cause I even cant open my own levels to test them :D!

There are enough things what I could tell you, but I will have it short:
This is a must if your HCL is full. You can simpely open levels by searching them with captain cook. All names will apear in a line of the alphabet. Then you choose your character, and press start!

“A new invention for this universe from Jazz Jackrabbit!” – Daily Carrot news
“This is just TOO SIMPLE!! YAY!” – Carrot-Airmail

“everybody, just everybody, needs this! This is a must for yong and old, big and tiny.” – Jazzpress

so how I could say it: DOWNLOAD THIS THIS IS A MUST!!!!

Carrotpie

EDIT1: Hey, now they’re not on alphabet line! This makes it very hard to find levels. (-0.2)

Hey, very cool programm! :D
I like the idea of the programm, and no one of the errors Trafton mentioned happened as I tried it out.
The bad point is that I also think the layout could’ve been more interesting and some more info on the level would be cool. Overall, I give this a 7.5 and a strong download reccomendation for all those with a bunch of files in their JJ2 directory.

Captain Cook comes from a long line of variously successful programs that attempt to do what is impossible in many cases: Organize the Jazz 2 miscellanea accumulated by a veteran of the game over several years of play. The specific method here is to have an external program used instead of Jazz 2’s built-in home cooked levels program, which is limited to 255 levels and thus useless beyond a few months of play.

TK’s program is probably the best thing that any Jazz 2 hyper-organizer/packrat has in their arsenel at this point, yet I cannot say it lives up to the hype Blackraptor’s review gives it. When I originally loaded it, straight from my Jazz 2 folder (which is located in the default installation directory of C:\Gamse\Jazz2,) it gave me a level not found error and an empty box. After pointing it directly to the location through options, it gave me an error saying a random .j2l file could not be located but loaded the list anyway. The Jazz 2 folder setting program forces you to chose the location of jazz2.exe, and did not work for me. All of these errors were avoidable, and frankly confusing. This has not been mentioned yet, which leads me to suspect that I may be the only one suffering from this. However, with the latest Visual Basic runtime files, a default Jazz2 directory, and Windows XP SP2 RC2, I can’t see what variable would do that.

The program works as it should other than the errors, providing a quick launcher for levels. You can set what character you want to be and what difficulty, but little else than that. Perhaps it would have been nice to see more features, but I cannot expect much more than this and honestly do not know what could be added.

The layout is standard and utilitarian. There are no fancy graphics or even a splash screen (the latter item is not only forgivable, but commendable.) There is not even a Help>About-like window or copyright of any sort. Despite a number of temporary hangs or crashes, Captain Cook is a good program that needs to have a few bumps worked out, but certainly is the most promising new program release of late.

Y’know what, I’ve been looking for this program for years. Having over 500 levels in my jazz2 directory, gets really annoying, because a lot of the levels I want to play (the SP ones) with a diff. difficulty setting don’t appear in the lists and other MP levels by people who neglected to check off “Hide in homecooked levels list” do. Well, finally. This program works efficiently, even has extra features such as a filter search. Its accurate, it works, I love it. The only things that prevent me from rating this a 10 is that the layout could’ve been a tad more exciting, and perhaps show a bit more details on the levels (i.e, the tileset it uses?). Anyways, THANK YOU. I seriously needed something like this, and this is exactly what I needed. 9.2 for you, and a definite download reccomendation.

I have to say, this is very useful. Especially if level isn’t on Home Cooked list (danged option in JCS), and it’s passworded. Also, if you remember only name of level, you can search it here as well. My only complain is that files are completely messed up in list. Anyway, this is l33t program and I reccommend it to all TSFers (only 1.24? Bad.)
