Aiko, get some glasses :) Ot at least check the sets in JCS (like i do).

I’m not familiar with the “Magic Boy” game…This set is pretty good, like Aiko said: red shaded stone and wall structures, lot of other stuff, in the meantime goodies or powerups. One downfall: it seems that the set is FULLY masked (Good morning, Aiko ;)), which i REALLY hate. Nevertheless a good set if you don’t mind reosrting to layer 5 ;)

LOL! And i remember playing that game back in…1995 or something like that. It was not really the best platformer of the decade but Jump and Run fans like me surely had some plain fun with it (anyone remembers “Magic Pockets” by The Bitmap Brothers? :-).
Anyways, back to present: Assassin made a nice little tileset out of the game (level one of the game, rather) that has about 200 tiles, most of them red shaded stone and wall structures. There also is a lot of other stuff, in the meantime goodies or powerups from the actual game. The masking seems to be very good and i am sure talented levelmakers can do a lot with this great new “Magic Boy” tileset conversion. Definitely worth A FAT DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATiON!

P.S.:
The author even tried to rebuild Level 1 of the game and added it as an example single player level. For the background, he chose “supermarioland.mod” by reflex/movement. A perfect chiptune that fits quite good but…i have to check my old 486-‘puter which music file format “Magic Boy” used (maybe it’s convertible :-). In any case, very good work, Assassin![This review has been edited by Aiko]

IMO this is a super simple level with some actually interesting ideas. Though plently of things brought this review down. It actually didn’t look like much work was put into this level (I can imagine battling in a simple level like this wouldn’t be too much fun). The use of events was interesting, but seems like it was done like 10000 times before (pools aren’t a new concept.)

Undecided between a 3 and a 3.5… I don’t like this much at all and can’t recommend a download.

Wow. We have a fairly simple level here, it has some hurt events (which DON’T work in MP, btw.), an ammo and chat room. I didn’t bother to actually check out the tileset used extrensively, but it seemed fairly okay. This level deserves an award for it’s smallness and simplicity, but I can hold on that.

The 70’s Grove music (which was included with TSF and therefore just wastes disk space), doesn’t fit at all.
I can’t recommend a download.

“Assassin’s Pool” is a concept based hotel level using the nice “Tavern” tileset by an unknown author (please ALWAYS give some infos about who made the tileset!).
The hotel has some rooms, for example a sauna, toilets, a whirlpool and the like. Some events were placed to demonstrate the functions of a room (bubbles, air, water etc.).
The level design is below the average and there is a major lack of eyecandy. Apart from the fact, i don’t like hotels too much, this still needs a lot of work to get a 5 or higher rating from me. At least the concept can be considered as semi-original.
But the “70’s grove” music also doesn’t fit too good in my opinion.[This review has been edited by Aiko]

“Super Mario Bros.” by Assassin is a small battle level using a “Super Mario Brothers” tileset by an unknown author (NOTE TO ALL AUTHORS: PLEASE do always give credits or mention the author of the tilesets you used in your levels! Esspecially if you include YOUR OWN, selfmade sets.). The tileset actually is okay (slightly below average i think).
To my regret, the level is really ugly: it has nothing more than useless hurt events, a chat and an ammo room.
The “70’s Grove” music doesn’t fit at all. Sorry. Not a good thing to download.

As the boring name, “Electric Hell”, promises, it is a boring, small level with horrible weapon placement (way too many weapons, Mister!). Eyecandy is not really existant (except the small foreground layer hideout…actually it’s a layer bug, you have to cover everything around the hideout with foreground layer tiles, too). The music does not fit.

Unfortunately, i can’t give a download recommendation here. This level would need a lot more work and effort.

In truth, I really don’t like this much. It has very very little eye candy (if any at all?), and it was kinda small. To add to it, it has a pretty “slapped together” feel to the weapon placement which I don’t like at all. The whole design is circular, yes, but it’s circular is a very linear way which takes away from it.

Also, it’s TSF (bad idea when it has no TSF-only stuff!)

Overall I don’t recommend a download, this is a pretty short review, sorry.

Hah, i get to review first :p

I’ll only rate SP, tilesets and lvls from new artists from now on, and i won’t be on the net, but i’m willing to make exceptions (especially with tubelectric, MAN i love that set!)

Ahem…OK, since this is your 2nd level, Assassin, i’ll be gentle. This list will say enough :)

Strong points:
- It’s circular (i love circular levels, don’t you?)

Minor points:
- It’s TSF, not everyone has it.
- Almost no eye candy
- Layer 3 covers not enough (remember, also cover the edges!)
- Music (metal.mod) doesn’t fit (that music is included with TSF, thank God)

- The tunnel with the floor and ceiling springs is too smal, the level however is big enough for my likes…
- The weapons are all in the same place.
- Some tiles aren’t used properly

Conclusion: Not a download recommendation, but since it’s a newbie level, i’m willing to drop minor point 1 to 4. It’s become a 5.5
