Gameplay – 8/10
Well balanced, no baddie or pickup overuse and stuff, difficulty all right, maybe a little too short
Level design – 8/10
Good level design, not messy or anything :)
Tileset – not rated
Good use of the tileset (dont really like the tileset but thats off point ;) )
Eyecandy – 8.5/10
Nice eyecandy – Even with a messy tileset like sirius ye still manage to put lots of stuff in it while keeping it clear, well done!
Music – not rated
All right music choice, fits the level
Conclusion – 8.16/10
Simply a nice level, fun to play, but could have been a bit longer

Download recommendation

Don’t have the time for a huge review but here’s in short where that 9.2 all comes from…

– Gameplay – 90 Pretty easy at most places, a little short too all together(basically ‘cause ye just HAVE to keep playing until ye finished the whole game ;) – Originality – 84 General idea is nice, some specific levels are very nice (on top would be level 9 ;) – Level Design – 82 A pretty simple but well worked out level design for most levels – very well use of the tileset, and no annoying things like overload of baddies (or getting stuck in walls ;) – Graphics – 85 Very nice tileset :) – Music – 100 Adds a lot to the athmosphere – splendid! – Sound FX – 100 I’m not sure how many sounds there were used, but the ones i noticed worked well enough for another 100 ;) – Bonus – 100 Those cutscenes are amazing! Pity theres no sound, but they’re definitely a great extra :) – Overall – 91.5 Guess what – this is the average of all the points above ;)

Some thingies i noticed: No music in, i think, level 3 (the first one down in those caves) Caint use the listing thingy (when opening a new game in TSF) – it says i have to “finish the previous episode first” (which is homecooked levels)…[This review has been edited by Kejero]

one of the better jazz1 songs remixed, and i like it even a lil’ bit better than the original too :)
would ‘ve done the ending differently as ye can easily hear when it replays again – but well, that wont get the rating down ;)

Yes I knew that, mr Carrot:) BTW I appreciate your enthousiasm but take it easy on the others! they’re not going to appreciate what you said! And I already made an enemy and that’s enough for now (y’know, the mummy;)

And I’m very glad with the thing Paul said bout that game (which i don’t know btw), but I tried to make TR a bit like the good old sidescrollers I use to play in my old days – seems like it worked:)
BTW, the point of the hard difficulty is the same as with those old games: the satisfaction after passing a difficult part!:)

And I also forgot to mention: sorry to the people with slower machines, but TR indeed requires a rather fast system to work properly.

oooh… I’ve also noticed not many people have downloaded the patch yet… oh well:)

T.K.

Tomb Rabbit Patch

—- Last updated Nov 20, 2000 —-

In one of the levels, I found another ‘due-to-the-deadline-bug’. I’ll tell you what it’s about,
so you can deside for yourself if you wanna fix it or not.

During creating the levels, I constantly test them. Of course I temporarily replace the Jazz
start position to not have to play the whole level over and over.
You have probably noticed there are a lot of triggers in the level. I discovered that in one level (I’m not saying which,
if you want to know, figure it out yourself ey;) I forgot to erase a ‘testing trigger
zone’. This is simply a temporary trigger zone that I put right next to a temporary start
position. This trigger makes it possible to leave the level immediately (skipping
all the fun, the puzzles…oooh), and that was certainly not the point.
Of course, if you don’t mind that, I think I understand;)

BTW – if you happen to figure out what level it is and where it happens, please
don’t publish it. It’s like cheats: they ruin all the fun :(

If you find any other ‘bugs’, please contact me!

Oh, in the mean time I also fixed the text bug Paul was talkin bout (thx Paul:)

Since re-uploading this game (fixed version) fails all the time, please download the patch anyways.

Thx Paul and Aiko, I appreciate that :)

Unfortunately I encountered a tiny bug too in two level files. So if you’re one of the people who downloaded this game before 2pm GMT+1 on nov 19 2000 (today, sunday), then please download the ‘Tomb Rabbit Patch (Aaaaahh)’ and replace those two files.

Sorry sorry sorry. This is really a developers worst nightmare!! I found it a few hours AFTER the release! Aaaahh.

Anyways, it’s only 16.4 kb so I don’t think that’s a huge problem.

I already updated this original file so if you didn’t download Tomb Rabbit yet you won’t have to download the patch.

Once again, sorry for the wasted 16.4 kb on this server.

And to the people I sent a ‘help!!’ to… eh… yes I’m dumb :)

So people: turn off low detail or the game will look bad bad bad. And now, go play, become an addict, and face those temples!!

I usually don’t review levels, but if someone gets bad ratings all the time i’m gettin curious and I check it out for myself.
Came to the conclusion these guys are right.

KJAZZ has some good ideas, but his levels look more like just the ‘basic idea’; they just look UNFINISHED. The levels are ok, but there is no finishing touch. So I recommend that you work in team next time, or at least have someone do the eyecandy and stuff for you if you’re not good at that.

Probably the problem is PATIENCE. They’re right, it needs time to make a level good. A good idea is one point, but without all the rest (eyecandy, gameplay…) it’s worth nothing. I’ve been working on my ‘Tomb Rabbit’ (release tomorrow!) for two months now, and I’m sick of it! I’ve had it! But I wanted to make it good, so I did spent a lot of time testing, adjusting, adding eyecandy and stuff. Patience is the key mi amigo! (if you see my new enemy, you’ll know what I’m talking about)

4 points for the idea, missing 6 points for the rest. And I’m glad someone is making a storybased game again. Just do try to make it different from Stripes (why is there always a mother involved?).

That’s it (fingers gettin tired). I’m sure you could get your ratings higher. For someone with your ideas this is basically the rule: The more time you spend, the more points you get.

well mr KJAZZ, i’ve almost finished my newest level (pack) (release in two weeks!!) (btw, take a look at http://kejeroshare.homestead.com/trad.html ), and after that i’ll work a little on my website. I’m planning to make a page that shows step by step how i built the game. So if u’re interested in some level designing tips, wait and …eh wait a little longer, and ur patience shall be rewarded.
btw, i started (from scratch) making ‘Tomb Rabbit’ in the beginning of october, so with a little help of maths i can conclude: i spent (will have spent/spended) two months making it!!
maybe i’ll also rate ur level as soon as i played it :)
