Jazz Jackrabbit 2 Online

The first thing i noticed in this pack was a major error in the readme: it wasn’t the dutch guys from Orange Games who published J2, but they did most of the coding (which makes them the actual "creators"). The game was published by Project 2 here in Europe and by GodGames in the United States and…oh heck…i have a level pack to rate! ;-)
Well, it uses a large number of custom files (six tilesets and six bg music tracks) and includes six battle levels using all the stuff.
No doubt, i always like the idea of using homecooked sets/music, but a wise author should not forget about the most important point, which is, you guessed it right, DESiGN. Not to mention the layer work. As you may have noticed, i didn’t like the design of most of the levels in this pack too much. It just needs some more work. The music files are not superb but interesting by the way.
All in all, this could be of interest for people who like custom files and battle levels that are very slightly above the average. I can’t take the decision for you :-)

These aren’t bad. As iCeD said, they all have there ups and downs. I disliked most of the levels. But I thought the music weren’t bad choices. The Forest level was my favorite, also. And a lot of these levels were quite confusing.

And also, these aren’t multi playtypes, as the info of the level says. I found only Battle levels.

Well, I don’t recommend these levels to download, sorry.

The Forest music was from Fury of the Furries.
Rant to Hare Brain on the Pyramid one.
The space one was going to use your music from the Semiconductor, but I wanted to use NEW musics.
The medivo one was the best for there. Please play that level in High detail for the full effect.
The Ailen one, just look at the name of the music. “Alien Atack”. ‘nuff said.
The final one was going to be called “Sky High Fury” but for some very strange reason the level would NOT WORK in jj2… So I made one with a spaceship with two Holodecks and it was in like the clouds.

I hope this clears up some confusion.

I didn’t like these levels too much, to be blunt and honest.

This pack includes 6 levels, each had their ups and downs. I liked the forest one the most probably… the space station one gets an award for being CONFUSING which is a major downfall. The Medivo and Space ones where OK but a little too simple for my tastes. The pyramid level… well, I’ve already reviewed that so you can look there, I’ll edit this with what I had to say about that later. You USUALLY can’t go wrong with a nice set of custom music files, but at times I felt the ones you chose didn’t fit too well.

Like I said each level had their ups and downs, but overall this is above average I guess. barely a download recommendation from me. You should spend more time on JCS before you release.

Alpha was the First level, Forest of Fury.
Beta was that level with The Pyramid of Steel Fury.
Theta is now, with 6 levels.

It’s better than the other one, but you can’t make much with it.

I don’t think a level could be made from this, but only because there isn’t enough detail.

My apoligies,I have fixed the Text so that it appetises all parties (iced, I censored the thing with ModPlug. :) and changed the level layout a bit.

Now if I can re-upload it…This is the problem. It doesn’t re-upload, but gives me a “fatal error” :( DIZZY! DO SOMETHING!

DethMan is TILESET- and LEVELBUILDER
Martin is LEVELBUILDER

Dethman is the modest type he made the tileset. There is no questioning that. In tilesets Deth also has more experience.

Also, we don’t need personal attacks here.

Aiko: answer me this: Why do some of the tiles make bad remarks about dethman? I think that jeh made it because there’s a positive comment in there. Now, Dethman may have made the level 7th Lava Fall, but there is no proof that dethman made it. Jeh could’ve made it because he has a LOT more expierence with tilesets. no offence deth And by the way, I’m thinking about re-releasing this level with a little better choice of music. wanders off to modarchive.com

Iced: Winamp rules. ModPlug don’t. Winamp has AVS. ModPlug doesn’t. Winamp is skinable. ModPlug isn’t.

This level is not very good
A lot more work should go into it
At least 3 hours per level.

First of all, i really appriciate that authors use superb custom tilesets like DethMan’s 7th Lava Fall (btw this is the first major bug: in the readme you thank Jeh for the tileset…).
And the set isn’t used that bad at all: the eyecandy is quite okay in my opinion. Well, there are still some masking/tile errors though. And the foreground layer with the "falling lava" will get very annoying after some minutes!
Now, the bad side: The design of the "Pyramid of Steel Fury" is (slightly below) the average. There are lots of things that i dislike:
Sandglasses (very annoying event i think), Airboards (pretty useless in this level), Hurt events (they will only hurt the server, believe me!) are some examples i found.
The pack also includes a custom music file: i’m not sure if it fits to the atmosphere of DethMan’s "dark, industrial" tileset but it still sounds…um…pretty funny. I’ve heard MODs that were worse.
To sum it up, this is a nice level, mainly because the author tried to use a great tileset and custom music. The design (actually design is the most important part in a level :-) itself is not that good.
I think J2O’s readers could take a look at it. I was very undecided about the rating (5 or 6?). Hey, it’s saturday…very very low six points for you :-)

We have a pretty below average level here. Design, eye candy and event placement could have been significantly improved… Also contains no new ideas. Semi-good music choice. I feel like decreasing the rating for your comment about ModPlug in the readme. ;-)

Overall I can’t give a download reccomendation for this. Sorry. :-)
