good idea
but the levels are…
i dont know…
Aha, now I remember this episode. I visited my friend once and saw that he was playing this episode but I didn’t know what was that name so now I downloaded this and saw that, so now let’s begin to rate!
DESIGN
Well, this has a some kind of story in the readme file, it’s able to read. But the destination and acts are quite strange. A 6.
6/10
EYECANDY
Well, the first level “aa” or what it ever was, was poor. Not because the author doesn’t have skill, just because that tileset is poor. I don’t know who made that tileset but it’s kinda useless. Because other levels were good, and that shows that the author has some skill too but there isn’t very mucho background. In the diamondus level I saw that you have written jazz to the background with those stars. This deserves a 7.
7/10
ORIGINALITY
Well, I know that no one hasn’t made this before you, but this is continue from another level pack what you have made, so anyway 5.
5/10
GAMEPLAY AND DIFFICULTY
They aren’t very hard and seems that these doesn’t have very much difficulty settings. hmmm, levels are kinda short, and there’s five about them, so I give“Think, think think” A 6!
6/10
INCLUDING
So you have linked the levels but you should hide the other levels too, and good that ya have a rdm-file. And ya included all what was needed to play this. Well done.
8/10
PICKUP AND ENEMY PLACEMENT
Not very much of ammo, gems, food or anything other extra. And kinda poor enemy placement.
4/10
+ OR – EXTRA POINTS
-1 Strange music choice
OVERALL: 5.8333333 = 5.7
LEVEL RANK: Average level
DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION: Download and try.
ENDING COMMENTS:
Average level. Well that’s kinda good point that 5.7 too, but you could do something better to increase your level ratings. Practise a little more guy, and don’t use poor tilesets.
Superjazz was here!
OK, level 2 has a very ugly titleset.
The levels are not too hard, and not too easy. Cool but in level 3 you have to choose the “jazz side” or the “spaz side”, I play Lori so I had to choose the spaz side and there where balls coming down, and then… JazzJackRabbit had an error and had to be restarted. I tryd to restart the level but it didn’t work, I don’t have a slow computer so it just got to work, but it doesn’t so a just had to use the JJNEXT cheat and pass on to the next level, not knowing what should happen back in level 3, iritating! Please repair it, or is it because of my computer or JazzJackRabbit…
I give it a 6
P.S. the music in the Mario level is cool!
I don’t feel like writing a big review, but I’ll just say that this level pack is a bit above average.
The eyecandy sucks…
The weapons placement and enemy placement is good…
The music choice seriously sucks (more than the eyecandy.)
Download rec. if you like all single player levels.
I will now try to find everything wrong with this level.
GAMEPLAY:
This part of the level is not very good. At all. I don’t think there’s anything in this that would make it different than a battle level. And not a great one at that. In either case, it’s too big (at least IMO). Resizing from the default size would be nice. The bases were placed at the top corners of the level. This makes them both just a few tiles away from the top which could cause a lot of problems. It has horrible flow, too many platforms, deadends, no borders around the level to prevent the flag bug (I advise using at least 2 tiles, although 3 is better), and it is too open in various places. To make things worse, this level uses an annoying amount of poles (there were some poles about 10 tiles wide). And to top things off, there are hurt events. Yes, hurt events. The same things that kill the server but not anyone else. Don’t use hurt events in multiplayer. Ever.
I also forgot to comment on the chatroom. Never, ever, ever put a chatroom in a multiplayer level. There are chat clients for this. If you want players to be chatting instead of playing in your levels, then maybe you should get more experience in JJ2 before making any more levels.
EYE CANDY:
The eye candy actually wasn’t too bad at first glance. It’s nothing spectacular (it’s somewhat average) but it does try to be slightly different in some areas. But then there’s the background. Only one layer was used (no mountains, just the sky). It didn’t look that bad, but it was lazy, and laziness is never a good sign. And there was one place where solid 4th layer tiles were used in a BG layer which may be a little confusing. Not the worse thing, but still annoying.
CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:
Several +1 carrots near poles. Atrocious. Try using a full energy carrot or two (not too close together) somewhere near the middle of the level instead next time. Ammo was unevenly distributed, mainly because of the giant open spaces with almost nothing in them. Powerup placement wasn’t much better, and some powerups were too close to each other.
HOST THIS OFTEN?
Not a chance. I advise working on battle levels a little more before tackling CTF levels. And it’s “Reign” not “Regin” just to let you know. I’m rating this a 5.
Above average, below above average… somewhere in there ;)
Eyecandy is acceptable, all though not good.
Weapons placement is very bad.
Gameplay is good, though.
The level is pretty big, too.[This review has been edited by labratkid][This review has been edited by labratkid]
Good level pack.
Levels have good eyecandy and
item placement is ok.
An awfully buggy level pack with pretty good eyecandy. It was a pretty fun time, but it was short. The last level, Devan kept bumping into the walls and every time he did it said “Chris is a redneq.” Okay, what the heck.. Heh, it only said it for one frame, so I had to pause the game really quick to see it. Anyway, fun but buggy, and you may have to cheat to get past an area where you get stuck in the last level. Also, you didn’t include the tileset for the NES Level.
A medium-size level, as said before.
The eyecandy is on layer 4, close to good, only I found some bugs on the foreground layer. That bone thingy is just floating in the sky with no underground under it, and that’s ugly. The gameplay, well I enyoyd it, but there are only strait parts, there’s no action in. There are almost no secrets in it, yeah 1 or 2, and there easy to find: 1 Blaster Power-up and some else thing, I cant remember. Enough placement, candy and weapons. The level was quit easy. The ideas are okay, Bubba has stole diamondus. A good idea to put with Bubba some Super Gems for eyecandy. When you defeat Bubbe he sais:,, No, this is my playground!” Funny, but in overall the level is a bit to small, though. Download not reccomend.
Superjazz reviews. Important: No originality anymore. That’s weird thing and can’t be rated. And music choice away too.
DESIGN
Quite good. But could have a little more action.
7/10
EYECANDY
This is otherwise good but the foreground layer is badly placed. That looks poor.
6/10
GAMEPLAY
You said that this is big sp level. In fact this is not. This is quite short.
And not fun. Level is completed in 5 minutes or hardly even that.
3/10
DIFFICULTY
Way too easy because so short level.
5/10
INCLUDING
Well, this hasn’t very many files but you named the readme as same as level. Good!
7/10
PICKUP AND ENEMY PLACEMENT
Enemies are this time placed well, but a little lesser of items.
7/10
+ or – extra points.
+1 Good endboss in the level.
+1 Ok readme file
Overall: 6.1666667 Level rank: Averagelevel
Download recommendation: No need. Level is way too short. Waste of time.
Overall comments: So average level again. Put more time to your levels, so it looks a big level. But the level size is not the only way. You can also make more than one level, so then it doesn’t need to be so big. So, otherwise ok, but level size, remember!
Superjazz was here.
I like how you’re saying that you don’t know of any bugs and you want to change that.
STORY: From attempting to read the end text (which needs some @ symbols), I’m guessing the story is as follows; Bubba has a playground with diamonds but you don’t like him having diamonds so you kill him.
Pros/Cons: There are some times when Pros and Cons are completely useless. Let’s just say I don’t care about the story and leave it at that.
Rating: N/A
TILESET/TILESET USE: The author uses, as I’m sure you know, the Dam Nation tileset. Layer 4 is used pretty well, with no apparent tile bugs (other then a few masking troubles), but I can not say the same for the other layers. There are some boney skeleton things hovering strangely in the foreground, and transparent lava doesn’t look right in the background. There is little that is inventive or interesting to speak of here.
Pros: Layers 4 and 8 fit together.
Cons: Poor other layers, nothing interesting, the bridges look weird.
Rating: 3.7
WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: I suppose this was ok. Nothing bad stuck in mind, but nothing good did either.
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 5.0
ORIGINALITY: Well, there are giant red gems in the walls around the playground.
Pros: Some originality.
Cons: Not much.
Rating: 3.2
DIFFICULTY: This level is rather easy, to tell the truth. What with the blaster powerup and the lack of any serious threat from enemies or the level, Bubba is the hardest part and he’s not dangerous at all.
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 4.0
REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: This level is kind of fun to play, but I find it unlikely that I would play it again unless I come across it while randomly selecting levels while bored. It is just not paticularly interesting.
Pros: Not bad to play.
Cons: Not paticularly interesting.
Rating: 4.0
OVERALL (not an average): This level is.. ok. However, it suffers from worse-then-average eyecandy and nothing interesting to speak of.
Pros: Some good,
Cons: some bad. Eyecandy needs work.
Rating: 4.5
Well, I’ll have to admit that the Evil Forest was much better, but this is still a good level.
Eyecandy: 4/10 Could’ve been much better, especially in the foreground layers, and some edges.
Enemy placement: 5/10 There were hardly any enemies! When people reviewed the Evil Forest and said there were too many, they didn’t mean to get rid of all most all enemies… The enemies that were there were placed well, though.
Ammo placement: 8/10 Couldn’t have been too much better (or worse) since this is such a small level.
Bugs: 6/10 Well, unless you downloaded Fanden’s level pack, your game will crash. Also, some of the warps are hard to find; some of them you have to guess that one will be there.
Fun: 6/10 Pretty fun to play, actually. The endboss was quite boring because it was a very small rectangular arena.
Total is 5.8, but I can’t do 5.8, so 5.7.
To small.
(A 1 because it is too small seems a bit…uh…overboard. Rating removal. -Trafton)[This review has been edited by Trafton AT]
First of all, this is actually a level pack using “JJ1: Diamondus” and “Forest” by Blade, NOT Diamondus.
“The Evil Forest”
TILESET/TILESET USE: Definitely improved over the author’s past works. The tileset used is “Forest” by Blade. Everything comes together to look correct, but it just is not very interesting. There is not much extra eyecandy to keep people interested in playing the level, which makes it a little less fun than it could have been. Eyecandy here is more or less average – good and well-fit, but nothing beyond the basic requirements.
Pros: Everything seems to fit together.
Cons: Nothing amazing.
Rating: 5.0
WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: Like everything else, the author seems to be improving in this area. Weapon placement actually was not bad at all and seemed to be well-considered and everything. The same goes for enemy placements, though a bit less so. There were too-easy-to-get bonus items (mostly one ups), but those are excusable. For the most part, this area is improved vastly.
Pros: Well placed.
Cons: Still not perfect.
Rating: 6.0
ORIGINALITY: Not terribly original, but not terribly unoriginal either. This level does not have anything that seperates it from other levels like it, but that’s alright. There is not much of a storyline, either. Again, excusable.
Rating: N/A
GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: Sufficient. There were a few places in which it was confusing as to where one would go (like where the sign ambiguously says to “go underground” – there is a place nearby where you buttstomp). Still, generally, the level was pretty plain as to the direction to be taken. Gameplay was made a bit less linear by the option of taking one of two routes, but they both ended up in the same place.
Pros: Interesting two-route idea.
Cons: Confusing at times.
Rating: 5.5
REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: This level is not a great replay, mostly because it lacks anything spectacular. It is solid, and indeed enjoyable to play, but still – there just is not anything that would make people want to play it more than once. It is worth one play, but not way too much more than that.
Pros: N/A.
Cons: N/A.
Rating: N/A.
OVERALL (not an average): Improvement is the key to honing one’s JCS skills, and this definitely shows improvement. With a little more effort and time in JCS, the author can definitely improve. Over the course of the past few days, the author has raised his rating average quite significantly. It used to be barely a 2 and now is above 5 – well done. Still, this needs work before it can get better ratings. Some areas were confusing, and the level just does not have anything amazing. Still, with some more work, this is very promising.
Pros: Great improvement.
Cons: Still needs work.

“First Time at Diamondus”
This is the level using “JJ1: Diamondus”. The major bug I found is that the next level setting points to “The Evil Forest.j2l”. The correct filename for the next level is “Forest.j2l.”
TILESET/TILESET USE: Much like the last level, there is nothing extremely amazing about the eyecandy, but it all seems to fit together. There was obviously some extra work put into the eyecandy in this level. There are some improvements in tileset use, and I must say that this is fairly above average for tileset use. Unfortunately, there were still some areas in which tile use was questionable – more than in the previous level. Still, eyecandy was generally better than the last one.
Pros: Everything seems to fit together.
Cons: A few questionable tile uses.
Rating: 5.2
WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: This area was a tad bit worse than the last tileset in this area, speciafically in enemy placement. Why? Mostly because the author did not use stop enemy. The enemies in this level go through springs and into areas they should not be in. This does not effect gameplay really badly, but still enough to knock down the rating in this category somewhat.
Pros: Well placed, mostly.
Cons: Enemies had problems.
Rating: 5.2
ORIGINALITY: Yet again, not very original. There just is not anything here that would make this level any different from your basic generic JJ1: Diamondus level. No storyline here, either, to speak of.
Rating: N/A
GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: This level seemed a bit shorter than the previous one, but gameplay was somewhat less confusing. There is only one route this time around, so it is a bit more linear, but generally gameplay was somewhat better. Overall, this level probably has as good gameplay as the previous one.
Pros: No major bugs.
Cons: Short. Nothing amazing.
Rating: 5.5
REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: Pretty much like the last level, this is an okay level, but nothing amazing enough to warrant a second play. It’s enjoyable the first time around, more or less, but probably is not a great second play.
Pros: N/A.
Cons: N/A.
Rating: N/A.
OVERALL (not an average): These two levels definitely show that the author is improving, and quite well. This level specifically is okay, and probably somewhat above average. Keep improving like this and I’m sure you will be quite good someday. Keep up the good work and don’t give up! :)
Pros: Great improvement.
Cons: Still needs work.

Indeed, tileset is missing. I guess it’s supposed to be “diamondus”, instead of “diamond”, which is another set.
I’ll only rate the Diamondus level (and I’ll make it short):
Tileset use – ok
Enemy placement – better than in the Forest
Goodies – almost none
Design – very short but ok
Originality – well not really original in any way…
Replay Value – none – too short and quite too easy.
Given that (and the fact that I have to go to eat something) I rate this 5.5.
Dan.[This review has been edited by DanX]
I’m to tired to write a long review so I’ll make it short :)
-The design was simple and the paths were straight.
-Too much groups of enemies
-some pickups
And that’s basically it :)
Nothing too good or too bad. A simple average level – a ‘6’ will be enough.
Dan
Hmmm… this level’s titleset is a unknown titleset for me, “Forest Night” by Blade. There isn’t a story, but that doesn’t matter for 1 single player level.
GAMEPLAY:
It’s not so perfect. Some small mazes with that stuff underground. You’v got to shoot a wall and buttstomp and shoot. And to be onest, this was a difficult maze for me! At some points you have maken more than 1 passage, so that’s good. You can play this level at 2 directions, but both lead to one way: the way to Bubba, the end boss.
A funny idea, when tose rocks are tumbeling, a text string says: Look out for “The Rolling Stones, it adds a feeling to me. :)
Too bad there are some strait parts, because that make’s the level boring.
But, the parts aren’t that long, tough.
PROS: Very, I mean very good that you know how to use background layers, shooting and buttstomp scenery, when I made my first level I din’t know how to use that. And some new ideas, but not to interesting, tough…
CONS: Some strait parts. And when you shoot or buttstomp a part, it leaves ugly stuff behind, you’v got to look for yourself I’v you want to know what I mean. Too bad it’s a bit small.
RATING: 7.5
ITEMS:
Fore the most Power-ups you have too find a secret, good. And that golden coins in the wall, I can’t get them!
Okay, it’s for the eyecandy. A bit to much ammo if you ask me, in the middle of the level I have a power’d up Toaster with 96 ammo! And the ammo is a bit “closed up together”. I mean thay the ammo is to much in a small room.
Too bad there isn’t any candy in the level. I like candy! On easy you have very much carrots, but on medium or hard, there are just too less carrots! Try to prevent that. P.S.: I can fly over that fly off area!
PROS: The power-ups are good spreaded over the level.
CONS: Toom much ammo at one place, and a strange carrot placement.
RATING: 6.5
EYECANDY:
Very good for your first level, but as I readed in the reviews, all Blades titleset where easy to use…
Good of you that you have almost placest everywhere Blade.
At some points there are standing trees and other eyecandy, good.
And when you shoot that blocks, keep practising okay?
PROS: Good for your first level.
CONS: Only that blocks, for the rest nothing. :)
RATING: 8.0
ENEMIES:
Too much at some points. And a strang enemie placement, what does the demon doing in a forest?
PROS: I’ll just keep it N/A’ed.
CONS: N/A
RATING: N/A
EASY, MEDIUM OR HARD?
Between easy or hard… Not to difficult, not too easy…

OVERALL:
This level is big and good for your first one. Good gameplay, and it not get’s boring, and thats good. I think it’s funny when you put enemies in your level who there don’t belong. And good music choice!
PROS: Very good for your first level, keep practising and you’ll get a higher rating, I’m sure!
CONS: Too much enemies at one place, and and those small things who first levels have.
RATING: 7.2
I’ll think you must be happy with a 7.2 for your first level, aren’t you?
Keep up the good work, and who nows, maybe you’ll be the level master! ;)
Well… I know that Blade is a good tileset maker, and his tilesets are easy to use, like the author used in his level the blade’s forest tileset. But the tilesets are not very different like. He makes the tilesets to view different places with different background and eyecandy tiles but paths and walls are same like. But we are now talking about fanden’s “the evil forest” level. So let’s go to rate it. And now a new section in my review: Music choice! And the “effects and other” section off from the rating. But I may still give + points in the extra point section if you put some (good) effects. If they are bad or some bugs, they cause – points.
DESIGN
Medium. I can understand that the charachter has come to a some kind of forest but this doesn’t an original story.
6/10
EYECANDY
This is also medium. No big bugs, but no other background. Except the underground place where the eyecandy was bad.
6/10
ORIGINALITY
Well. Nothing.
2/10
GAMEPLAY
This is just one level, and quite short one. And this level is also non-playable with jazz, because in the underground place there is a buttstomp event to the right, so I guessed that there must be a event like that, cause I can’t get forward, and because I was playing with jazz, I needed to type jjmorph to change to spaz. And I guessed right.
3/10
DIFFICULTY
Well this belongs to the medium side again.
7/10
INCLUDING
So, because there’s only one level, only 5. Ya put blade’s letters to the background in the level for show who has made tileset and also with a text. But still 5 because no readme file.

Not bad for afirst SP level.
Tileset use: rather good, though I saw a few bugs.

Eyecandy: not that good. There was no layer 5-7, and not much on layer 4.
