A PK3 file merican McGee Alice Archive.
Or in simple terms..
A .PK3 file is a renamed .ZIP file, used in games based on the Quake III engine. It usually contains a checksum to prevent the opening and recompression of the file, or the addition of extra maps to demo versions. The .PK3 file contains the map, textures, weapons, sounds, and scripts for the game.
Can be opened with
WinZip! Just replace the .PK3 extention with the ZIP one and that’s it!

Er……….most people use .ZIPS, not PK3. I don’t even know what PK3 is. If it’s PK3, i’m obviously not going to find it. If there is any way you could put it into .ZIP, PLEASE DO IT.

Jarno, this level was created for Razz Arena, a mod for Quake III Arena. I’ll tell you a secret, though, rename the .pk3 part to .zip and you can look inside and find buried treasure!

Fearofdark: This file must be a .pk3, not a .zip, or else Quake III Arena will not recognize it as a compatible file. What I was trying to say was that .pk3 files are basically just .zip files with different file extensions. You can extract them with a program such as Winzip to view the contents. Extracting this .pk3 and trying to use it with Quake III Arena, or God forbid JJ2, isn’t reccomended.

First of all, you misspelled the planet name. It’s Diamondus, not Diamonous. You could just check the name in JCS easily.

The level is very small. I’d say it’s even too small for duels. Two rooms and a platform in the middle. This is the first attemp to make a RA level, so I guessed it will be bad, but that’s really bad. The poster looks like a brick, not piece of paper (you could just make it a texture on the wall and it would look much better), the walls are full of diamond tiles. There is no big deal in hitting the leveltop, and there’s too much ammo. Actually, the only good thing in this level is that it’s on Diamondus. At least the ground is, because the sky is too gray. I would give you 2, but since this is the first RA level not made by the crew, I give you a 3.5, so you can mobilize yourself to doing better. Good luck!

Hello, long time ago since i last reviewed, but here goes!

Grapichs: 6.2

Ground tiles look good, background is NOT good, eyecandy mountains has 4 colors, not much, and dont look that good. Ground tiles bring up the rating a bit though.

Tiling: 8

Did not find any problems here, but it would be fun with a bit more tiles.

Overall: 6.7

Good, but not enough. Keep on, i say! You have the potential to do this

(I was lasy and didnt have time for a big review so please dodnt get mad at me.)

PS. i think mostly what JeLZe said. DS.

Neon PSY, you could have made a tileset of your own. I don’t really like the idea that you copied in few seconds what I struggled with several hours. Well, to be honest, nowadays I could produce something like Desert’s background in a short while, but anyway. Please do original tilesets. I think you won’t get much respect in the JJ2 community with works like this.
___________
Don’t worry Neon PSY. I wasn’t angry at you. Just create your tileset completely by your own hand. When the set is done, you’ll feel more satisfied.

Your sets show a lot potential. Just improve the use of palette and add lots of stuff, and you’ll have there a masterpiece.

I say, I really must have way too much time on my hands, otherwise I wouldn’t get first review each time :P Not that I care…

First impressions

As the name may explain it all, this is an autumn (fall) themed tileset, so there’s a lot colors related to that season: red, orange, very light brown… A tree, a mountain background and a squirrel statue are the main decorations. Looks nice at first sight.

Ground and Wall tiles, can’t play without them ;p

Like I said above, the main colors are red, orange and a light brown. The red and orange of course are used for the area that are supposed to be green. The actually has nice texture, considering it’s made in MSPaint! No kidding! (It said so in the mask message). The background wall tiles are a pure black with no texture. Hmmmm…

Tileset Extras

Neon Psy was kind enough to put in two pieces of extras: an H-pole and a V-Pole, both masked, and that’s where the problem is. Poles are supposed to be unmasked (Thank you Disguise’s Tileset Resource). The result is that the player will get stuck in the H-Pole (the one standing up) and fly in the opposite direction. The V-Pole works fine, which is a stroke of luck. It can still be used as a vine tho, which isn’t a bad alternative. That’s all I have to say about extras.

Eye Candy

This is the area where this tileset lacks the most. I said in a previous review “Stuff is Good”. The more stuff you put in, the better. Anyway, The only pieces of Eye Candy I can see is that nicely done squirrel statue, with a shootable head, (Squirrel haters here’s your chance ;p), water (a pure blue), a ripped Diamondus tree (nicely converted), 3D Background ripped from Blade’s tilesets (Not so nicely done, it only has two colors and looks a tad weird in 8-bit) and a Mountain background (ripped from Blade’s Desert). At least he credited Blade for them, I may have to ask him if he really gave permission :p

Miscellaneous

The only thing I will talk about here is this: wasted tileset space. Right next to the 3D Background you’ll an empty space of 2 × 8 tiles, and aboe the mountain a strip of 7 empty tiles. If you ask me, they could have been used for more extras of eye candy, like a big tree you can climb in. Given the texture in the ground I’m sure Neon PSY can pull that off :P Or destructable blocks, a must for every tileset. The way I see it, empty space equals wasted potential for improvement.

Verdict

Not a bad try for a first. Everything necessary is there, but that’s it. With a couple of more extras and Eye Candy, people would be able to make a nice level with it. What really i’d like to see is an update, with the poles unmasked, 3D background fixed in 8-bit, and a couple more things added.

Edit: I’m on a roll here folks :p In this edit I’ll just discuss the changes made to this set, so pay attention.

Tileset Extras

More extras were added in this update, in the form of destructable blocks. It’s a shame there are only two kinds: the blank and ! kind. O well, Neon is still a beginner, we can’t expect miracles. He was even kind enough to fix the H-Pole by unmasking it. :)

Eye Candy

Two new pieces of Eye Candy are introduced in this update: A new tree stem with branches, and a new top for the Diamondus tree. They both look good, but the tree looks more like a stick poking out of the ground. It would have been nice if the branches were masked for Jazz to hang on to. The background has been remodeled, but it’s still evident Neon took Blade as an example: he used the same colors, but different shapes, which is fine in my book. The 3D background still looks weird in 8-bit though.

Verdict

Same as before, a nice try. Maybe it’s time for Neon to start thinking about making a new tileset, he definetly shows potential. For now, this set is worth a look at. Well done!

Well this a cool level with lots of class. Its cool by turrets, ground holes where u can hide.

Cons

But turrets are bad couse your archer and enemy archer can be in same turret. And its too linear to shoot enemy from turrets couse they can run very fast. And there isnt any stoppings on ground to slow them down.

Pros

All classes are very good. There are holes in the ground where everyone can shoot enemies and mages can hide in deep holes where is electroblaster ammo! Its so cool when some mage fires electroblaster from ground!

It’s been so long since I’ve reviewed a CTF level. This will be fun. I don’t even know if anyone minds if I review this, so here’s my review.

GAMEPLAY:

For a CTF level it would be bad, but as a JTF level it’s much worse. It’s way too linear for me to ever enjoy it. You basically just run back and forth. The players shooting seekers out of the turrets could be a challenge; however, this alone cannot make the level less dull and unplayable. The classes in this aren’t too good. The Warrior/Brute class is the only class where you can capture the flag; too bad it has no powerups. You are forced to only use RFs poorly placed throughout the level. The Archer/Bowman class keeps you (or at least tries to keep you) stuck in a turret. I rather dislike that. The Wizard/Dark Mage class gives you a weak ability to hide in the ground along with some ice (ICE?) and electro blasters to, by a slight chance, shoot incoming enemies who run over your area. This class is probably the worst of the three, and you would be quite foolish to use this one. This level seems to be the perfect example as to why EvilMike thinks there shouldn’t be classes in JTF that keeps you from capturing the flag. And I must agree; what would happen if everyone chose the turret class? And I have to mention this about the turrets: easy to get stuck in and then unstuck in. In other words, I can go through one side of the turret then come out on the other. This could be useful to get the seeker powerup when in the Warior/Brute, but I truly doubt this was the author’s intention. And the one tile wide border may still allow for a flag bug, and the area above the castle seems only easily accesible to spaz. I should also mention it’s annoying to see hook tiles without hook or vine events on them.

EYE CANDY:

The eye candy is right in between average and below average. It uses most of the tiles as they should be used, but it doesn’t use enough tiles to make the eye candy nearly as good as in Disguise’s example level (which is where Disg set the standard). Not to mention some tiling errors here and there.

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

Perhaps some of the worst carrot placement I’ve ever seen. When I said add carrots, I didn’t mean put a semi-fast regenerating full energy carrot right on top of each base. The +1 carrot, only suppose to be available if you choose the turret class, is almost useful. Too bad it’s really is just something to keep you in that horrible class even longer. The weapon placement also isn’t great (as I started to mention earlier in this review). The seekers and the RF missiles were placed lazily. They were just large clumps of ammo barely placed strategically.

HOST THIS OFTEN?

That’s a trick question, no (to put it harshly). Don’t make your 2nd CTF level a JTF level. Work harder next time. A 6.

PS: You forgot to include the music, which would be fire.s3m.
