Well, this level and tileset is certainly a mixed bag⊠Letâs take a look at the items by themselves.
The Tileset: Well, you certainly made an effort to connect tiles together⊠unfortunately it looks like you ripped out each 128Ă128 block wholesale and then cut out blank spaces. Eases level making, but gives WAY too many redundant tiles. Masking is good, but there were some masking problems. And would it be too much to ask to have those small propellers rotate?
The Level: Pretty good, though Iâve seen better. Putting the passages in from the original shouldâve been easy, and does the event âOne Wayâ mean anything to you? at least you prepared for someone falling and had them teleport to a âsafe spotâ. One minor gripe I had is the part on the outside of the ship right before you hit the button to fight the boss wasnât included.
The Music: Ouch, ouch, ouch⊠it was almost painful to listen to the music. It sounds like you opened a MIDI in ModPlug, and saved the result. Would it have killed you to loop it beforehand?
Despite these flaws, this isnât the worst tileset Iâve seen, and it might see another use or two⊠Based on its merits alone, it gets a 2, but you get 4 for effort.
Very interesting idea. As a fellow Sonic-level tileset maker (Iâm working on a Hidden Palace one, which I hope will be the best out there), I know my stages quite well.
One major gripe I have is it screams âJPGâ. Now, there IS a way to fix that, and thatâs by downloading one of the recent versions of Sonic 2 Delta. The patches can be found with a search for âSonic 2 Deltaâ, but be warned, the proper site will be in Portuguese. Yep, this guy actually put Dust Hill into the game, and it looks REALLY nice. And if you really feel you need those wooden ledges, rip âem from Mystic Cave.
Tiles look pretty well planned, though I canât see an entire level being planned with just whatâs there.
The musicâs nice, but if you like, I can send an Oil Ocean Zone XM (this is the same music Esrael uses in his hack).
It appears that in order to make certain parts like you did, you have to reverse the tiles. Ease of use takes a hit there.
But like the score says, the idea makes up for it. I canât wait to see a V2 of this.
