Hmm… Literally Frozen Spring! How suitable for an Easter which was remarkably cold (at least: here in the Netherlands where I live). I found this pack like three days ago and I tried to play it.
The two levels are set in an winter version of the Easter tileset from The Secret Files.
When I started to play, the first thing I saw was that… it was cold haha. But especially in the first level this cold was very well shown. There were a couple of extra lives hidden in the walls. And maybe it was not your plan, but you could clearly see where they were. That made it very easy to find them. A bit too easy actually. However, the glow of the lives shined through the walls, like it was ice shining in the sun. And I actually really liked that to see and find it well fitting for the atmosphere of the level.
The difficulty of both levels was pretty high. It took me three days before I finally managed to complete this package with only two levels! I am an experienced JJ2 player, I played these levels on the Easy setting and still found them difficult! However: I missed a boss at the end of the pack…
And there also are the glitchy swing vines in level 2! And the worst thing is: they aren’t even necessary! I think if you would simply remove them, it wouldn’t be such of a miss.

OK, I’ll give you the points for this level.

  • Eyecandy gives you 20 out of 20 points, there is nothing to complain about.
  • Challenge/difficulty gives you 15 out of 20, that’s a bit lower because of no boss.
  • Item placement gives you 7 out of 10, that’s a bit lower because of the easy-to-find extra lives.
  • Gameplay gives you 36 out of 40, that’s a bit lower because of the glitching vines in level 2, but for the rest all being great.

That makes it a total score of 78 out of 90.
For the final rating: 78 ÷ 90 × 9 + 1 = 8.8. Download recommendation!

I like the name and I also like how this is uploaded at exactly the right time for such a level. I started playing this when hosting it online in sp mode, but something went wrong as there were no enemies and sp only tiles, though I thought this was possible.
The background is set quite low, causing little of it to be seen most of the time. When being at the bottom of the level with ice near, it seems as if you’re on the lowest point possible, though if you look on the background you’ll see that there is still ground below you, which feels a bit strange. The ice was a nice idea though, some spots were too weak to stand on and you would fall through and get hurt.
I like the tips on the signs and also the ammo placement has been well done. Imo there are a bit too many enemies, especially those annoying flying lizards. In the first level I couldn’t find the crate to destroy the blocks on 209,17.
The airboard-only passage was another nice original trick from you, as well as the following fly-up-and-destroy-four-crates-passage, where you had to push the crates down into TNT’s as you couldnt buttstomp because you were on an airboard, although I was only able to find 3 TNTs to destroy them with.

In the end I think this is quite some original level, I would recommend people playing it, especially when they feel like playing something which is not too brain-crushing. Hosting online could be a great option too, though I hope it works well normally, as it didn’t with me.

I think you managed to show the weather that it should warm up now, as it has been easter already. J2O still tries to do the same thing, as I can still see snow on the background of this website.

Eyecandy: 7
Gameplay: 7,5
Originality: 8

Final Grade: 7,5

For a first release it’s not that bad but to be honest I didn’t enjoy it that much. What you did was copy one path and use it 4 times, that’s not original. Like you said it really reminded me of the original levels ( some parts) though those were much better.

Short level short review. Not bad, simple but good. Can’t really give a download recommendation because it’s too short for that.

the level was kinda easy for me…
I like it to be harder than this,
There were too many 3Ways that i did not used and tht part with the crate maze was boring because i was searching and searching for the way to those crates and few times i got stuck(without jjk) but, instead of that i used jjfly and jjnowall to get to some crates because i’ve got bored.
The gameplay was nasty there were too many goodies and a small number of enemies(i lost 2 lives in the level)
But there were some good things about it like the background use the layer use and the schwartzenguard boss and I found an uterus boss as well which you do not usualy find in diamondus
So … I’m sorry but 5.5
Tip:Try putting more flying enemies better with less goodies(but not much)and more enemies to make it harder.
and something that hurts if you fall into it(sort of)no matter how long it takes to finish the level

Not bad at all, simalar to the origional level, but more ‘open’ I’d say it is about normal in difficulty and could easily be a level the designers created themselves. Some versions of Jazz don’t seem to like it though, but my CD version ran it fine.

Eyecandy
Not that bad as I expected. A background layer is used, although it doesn’t move at all, and that’s a bad sign. There are some tilebugs, too, and they are actually easy to spot (cavern tiles errors). Entire level looks bland with too less layers and cave tiles used, and diamonds in the grounds were placed in somewhat ugly way.

Gameplay
w00t! The gameplay here is really mediocre. ;| This level lacks of original ideas! All you do is running around and searching for crates, much like in JJ2. Except this feels a bit too boring than JJ2 for some reason. Maybe unbalanced enemy placement? In some spots they’re clumped, and in another spots there are no enemies at all! That still doesn’t change the fact, that this level is plain… easy. (use flying enemies to make levl harder.)

Overall : Below average. Boring and bland looking… eeh. Keep trying.

This is not really my first creation in JCS, it’s only my first finished level work.

Eyecandy: You only put eyecandy on 2 layers. Two isn’t enough, 3 would be enough, but its your first level release, so you probaly wouldn’t have. 13/20.

Gameplay: Very good gameplay, especialy crates, i give you 20/20 for that.

ITEMS: Add a few more and you would have gotten another 20. But you didn’t, so i’ll give you 18/20.

Enemies: Same as items, its not hard enough, but there are less enemies, but there is a blissy boss ate the end. You would of had 16, but the boss, so 17/20.

Size: You were right, not too big, not too small. 18/20.

Added Up = 86/100. Divide by 10= 8.6. Round up to nearest rating= 8.5

8.5: Very good first try!!!

EDIT: OK then, very good first SP level.
