Uterus

Uterus is final endboss in the second JJ2 episode, Jazz in Time. He’s located in the Marinated Rabbit level. However, in beta versions 1.00g and 1.00h, the visiting order of the Beach and Psych locations was swapped, and thus Marinated Rabbit was the fourth level of the episode, not the sixth. Also, Uterus was supposed to be used in Beach Bunny Bingo (which would be the third/fifth level in the beta/retail versions, respectively), as one can deduct from the level design.

Appearance

The Uterus Boss is the mastermind of the Crab enemies. He looks like a much larger version of those, housed in a green shell, which is constantly opening and closing back. The shell didn’t have any openings – and therefore it could not open – in the aforementioned 1.00g/1.00h versions, though. Also, in those beta versions, Uterus doesn’t explode, blink or scream when his ending sequence occurs – he just falls on the ground.

Behavior

The fight between Uterus and the player is divided in two phases. During the first phase, Uterus will slowly float around in circles, being surrounded by a ring of spike balls (their number depends on the difficulty level). During the first phase (which wasn’t implemented in 1.00g/1.00h), Uterus is invulnerable to the player’s hits and is also able to drop Crab enemies. After all the spike balls are destroyed, the second phase begins. Uterus becomes faster, and while he keeps on floating in circles, his circles head in the player’s direction. Once the spike shell closes, Uterus can’t be hit. Also, Uterus is the only enemy in the game which can be hurt only by gunfire. Also, Uterus tends to appear in the game before the player would hit the Activate Boss event – this is possibly a leftover from the beta versions, where a boss would appear if the player came in the 31 tile long range of the event spawning the boss.

Endboss Statistics

  • Non-powered up blaster shots needed to kill: 50
  • Points awarded: 3000
  • Speed: Slow/Fast

JCS details

Unlike most of the bosses, Uterus doesn’t have an EndText parameter, and by default it will display text string #0 when killed. However, this can be easily changed by putting the parameter manually into JCS.ini. Putting |EndText:4 will make the the boss work properly.
