Well, let me put it straight, this is not my favourite level this week. Tube Electric is pretty easy to use and still, the author made some unfortunate mistakes here.
The whole design is kinda confusing, the level seems to be very large (255*64 tiles, way too much width) and the event placement is not very appropiate. For example, those Spikeballs only hurt the server and can cause access violations. The many (coin) warps don’t make navigation easier, too. In addition to that, the whole map doesn’t really look and feel like a battle level. Full energy carrots and annyoing dead ends (in the lower right corner, for example) may give you prove of my critics (pretty bad ammo placement in the whole level). As for what we call eyecandy, i didn’t find a lot of it…actually…erm…i didn’t find any. Not even the tubes are placed in foreground layers! Oh, and by the way, i think the level wasn’t started from scatch (as it should be), but it’s based on Battle2. Some places really really look like it :-)
Conclusion: sorry, but i can’t give a download recommendation here. It’s more like a waste of disk- and webspace to be honest.
I suggest you (the author) to read some level making manual or some of the reviews for bad levels here to avoid some of those “classic” mistakes in the future. Good luck and don’t hang your head (makes a very lucky 3).
P.S.:
Of course, “The Brothers Homebase” doesn’t have a correct next level setting…[This review has been edited by Aiko]
I’ll review this when i have 1.23 and 1.24 installed again on my comp…so till then no review from me :-)
Well…A very nice Tileset from Mirrow. It looks kinda “Simple”…more like Microsoft Paint colours, but who cares.
The stuff you’ve made in the Tileset are very Cool. Those Ooga-Booga statues look like the enemies in Mario Land :-) Uhm…I think the Tileset is very good, alltough It’s kinda small, but it has good masking. O yeah I’ve forget the example level…the level is very good. It uses all the tiles of the tileset. So you could rate it a 10.
But anyway a Download Recommendation.
And a 7.7 for the Tileset.
I will soon ore later download this…
but please dont post hotels on j2o…they ****!
Did you get your name from the movie Harry Potter?…
I like the tileset, very good, although I think it has too many grey in it.. if you could make some lighter/darker versions in the same set, that would make it less boring.
Not my kind of set to make a level with, but it looks censored good

No, it’s not. But I decided to review it anyway. In exchange for two waffles. With syrup.
Anyway, the background eyecandy’s fine, but layer 4 isn’t. Too many repeating blocks, bad design. The layout’s ok, but the design isn’t, if that makes sense.
And there’s an end area in the level! It’s a battle level! And I could scream about the Ice stuff….
If you like levels with repeating blocks, tiny one tile passageways and lots of shields, this is for you. Not for me.
Aside from being quite confusing this lvl is quite neato…..true its not very playable as jazz but then again alot of lvls are like that even the ones built by the pros :)
I only downloaded this to get the readme file. I already had the most recent version.
Overall, it is a farily good level. I do not think it is quite balanced to be playable with both Spaz and Jazz easily. I played it with both, and though I am not as good with Jazz, I came to that conclusion.
A very confusing level, I must admit. I definitely do not think it should be CTF, since you could take so many different paths and yet not know which is fastest and easiest and best to use. Definitely a battle level.
Mostly good. Probably the first level by defalcon that I ever played, and I am glad to have helped out in my own minor way.
gets a torch and burns jj2 1.24
Eat that tsf!
tsf must die!
And what, may I ask, about Agama?
i would gave a better rating but the reason why is one word: picky ;P. yes picky

Boring, old, keep it in line review….
BASIC BLOCKS/MASKING:
They’re almost all there. A few missing, but mostly there. The masking is good, except in a few places where it suffers.
1.7/2
LOW DETAIL LAYERS:
Originality rules here, but there could be a little more.
1.5/2
EYECANDY:
Everything looks great, except the shrubbery stuff, which could have used more work.
1.9(2)/2
ANIMATIONS/VARIETY TILES:
Great work here. And kind of original. But the spike animation in the cave doesn’t work.
1.5/2
STANDARD TILES:
No H-poles, Hooks, Arrows (except the ones in the cave which only point up), Sucker Tubes (though I guess they wouldn’t fit in, so this doesn’t matter) and the only spikes are on the floor.
1/2
OVERALL:
Great tileset here, though it could use a little work.
EXTRA STUFF:
Nice rank, Aiko. I want one. :P
Disguise, never rate a tileset by the music used in the example level!
Taz, don’t lower your rating because of the Example Level’s length.
Person below this rating that I forgot the name of, don’t rate the Example Level.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
Cool work. I give you 7,7 as I was only like this 2002! COOL work
But I have one quistion: (No about this set)
On Gruntz forum was you told about 8_ball as “High Rollers” Are it done?
Whew! I really like the style of this level. Psych is still so underused and in “Groovin Grinders” F!re really shows us what you can do with this awesome tileset (actually not one of my favourite ones, but hey, if you have a good level…).
The level is kinda large (150*50 tiles, a tad too large i think) and it has a pretty cool design: good platform, weapon and event placement (argh! food! :-), circular, quite easy to navigate and just fun to play. There a lot of obstacles (those mushrooms, for example) and nice arrangements. About the layer work: being not totally breathtaking, it’s based on a few passing objects in the foreground, hills in the background layers and some detail work (not bad at all, really).
Furthermore, as a main reason for the funky “feeling” of this level, the author used a great background music: “funkacider” by reed/trsi (whew, oldskoolerz! finland style!), which was an multichannel compo entry at ASM 2001. Usually, i don’t like the idea of not using the original J2B file for an Epic tileset, but this time i see it totally different. It’s funky to the bone!!
Anyways, in the meantime i’m here to rate the level, not the music (would be a 9 then :). Which leads me to the conclusion, that “Groovin Grinders” is a very 0Oo.FUNKY.oO0 battle map that will garantuee a lot of fun and also may cheer you up a bit (if you live in one of those cold, dark, rainy grey landscapes like me :). My recommendation: DOWNLOAD NOW! (a very good 7!).
Great =P Everything is well designed.Eyecandy is Perfect!
Doh,im repeating ppl before me :P So i will just say:Im agree with them!
First of all: no doubt, i’m a real friend of aliterations in level names. But this goes too far! :-)
Heh, well, let’s refocus on the actual level. I can’t really say a lot about it except that it’s very very good. The design is circular, very open and (despite it may sound like a contradiction), very tight. The weapon placement was obviously made with sense and style and the way Splash used the One Way event is also very appropiate in my opinion. The eyecandy looks quite cool, too (very dark, i esspecially like the background), and all in all this composition creates a dark, “medivo” like atmosphere.
Just download it and have some great battle fun. It’s really worth it (a sound 7 i’d say)!
Und wieder mal…yet another tileset from german tileset king mirrow. Its theme is the intact landscape of the world famous “Easter Islands”, which you’ve probably seen somewhere (remember: those large stone heads staring at you etc.). But that’s not the only thing the tileset shows on its about 350 tiles: there are lots of platform structures, vines, spikes, palms, rain and a ship and a sun for the horizon (plus some useful tiles like signs or shooting blocks, but they are simply copied from Epic tilesets). The mask seems to be well-made, too.
The author also included a very short example single player level in his pack: nothing spectacular, but it gives a nice demonstration of what you can do with “Easter Islands”.
Despite the fact i have some tileset where the nice little tracked Monkey Island theme by Stefan Uhlemann fits even better (namely my unreleased and therefore very infamous Monkey Island 2 tileset :-), it’s an okay choice. “Beautiful music”, as mirrow put it above, is a tad overdone here, though.
As a conclusion, i’d like to keep it short: “Easter Islands” is a very good looking tileset and definitely a MUST DOWNLOAD for all your Jazz2 fans and esspecially level builders out there (a low 7.5)!
Heh, brilliant. Wisey’s definetly got that 3D look but not the jazz jackrabbit 2 look that agama’s got, so heh. Kool X10 :)
I liked it :) As said before, a little bit too cramped so heh. I didn’t really like the background cos it made me dizzy. Good average level, but you could do better Splash!
