There are Two Groups of JJ2 Gamers:
Some can make good and Very Good Tilesets
and some Can make good or very Good Levels.
I am better in making Levels (I Think) because I 1. Havent the progs for drawing tilesets and operate with screenshot progs. And 2.: I Didn`t draw well; so here is the Oposite of me:
NOKA!
Your Tilesets are well, yes directly Perfect!
(Of course there are more groups of people on making releated stuff for JJ2… But I wouldn`t make a sooo long review)
(Too bad. Unsupported rating removal edit. ~Violet)[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
Yet another conversion by NOKA, and it’s Turtemple as promised. Yes, I was one of the beta testers, but that doesn’t mean I can’t review it :p
First impression:
NOKA has made a habit out of making different versions of one JJ1 conversion. While the idea is fine with me, I’m still worried about the execution of it. This time there are 4 versions, each with it’s own set of colors. Because the versions only differ in color and not in content, I’ll just review the standard set and compare it to the rest of them.
Conversion Completeness:
Needless to say, everything is there. Like Violet may know (with his Nippius conversion) some JJ1 sets are heavily animated, tho some of them are really well hidden, and it takes an eagle’s to spot them. The “lava” background, for lack of a better word, is the only major animation from Turtemple, but there’s also animation in the bricks around it. Yes, they’re in there too, no worry :p As for the rest: boulders, smal flowers, cacti (or cactusses), the DoofusGuard statues, clouds, mountains…they’re all there. Nothing missing, in short. :)
Added Extras:
Another trademark by most converters, each conversion must have a complete arsenal of extras. We all know NOKA (and Violet for that matter) never misses a thing, so I’ll be short:
Destructive Blocks:
- Weapon Blocks, all kinds: Check
- Trigger Blocks: Check
- Count-down blocks, 4 3 2 1: Check
- Speed Blocks, blank: Check
- Stomp Blocks, !: Check
Poles, H and V: Check
Vines: Check
Hooks: Check
Sucker Tube: Check (I couldn’t find it at first, silly me :P)
Conveyor Belt: N/A
3D Textured Background: Check
That’s just the usuall stuff (and yes, that was my inventory list for the beta .;). But NOKA went further and added bones and palm trees! And lets not forget a sun ;) O yeah, forgot to mention: NOKA also placed a Jungle Pole Stomp in the set.
Masking:
Let me tell you this first: when I was testing the set the masking needed work, badly. Fortunately NOKA took care of it and the problems with the masks are kept to a minimum. But there’s always a downside: the V-poles. When using them, do not put a V-Pole event on the pole in the wall. The wall tiles only cover roughly half a tile, so you get stuck when you place that event. On the other hand, if you don’t place one, you’ll just fall through the poles (Poles are always unmasked). Decisions, decisions… In general, the mask has some smal holes here and there, but they’re so smal, that Jazz can’t get stuck.
Turtemple 2:
As said before, the 4 versions only differ in colors. In this case, Turtemple has a more yellowish tone, so it looks like a more sandy type of enviroment. What also helps is that the “lava” wall now looks more like orange sand. When changing colors in a palette, there’s a big change of screwing up the colors of enemies, some events (like springs) and of course Jazz and Spaz. Luckily the colors for them aren’t way off, just to a lighter shade. This is by far my favourite version out of the bunch.
Turtemple Heaven:
This is where the palette editing has gone wrong a bit. It has the same colors as Turtemple 2, only with orange ground and a water wall instead of lava. What I’m saying is this: the red has been switched for blue. And that’s where the problem is: that red is located the standard part of the palette, where the characters and the major events get their color designation. When you use this set, Jazz will have a blue head band, and Spaz will be entirely bleu! I’d imagine that red springs will turn blue… In short: everything that’s supposed to be red, is blue.
Turtemple Wild:
This takes palette editing to a new level :p Really weird: everything orange is green, yellow is orange, and green is blue. Luckily the event colors are mostly intact, except for Spaz who has a greenish belly now.
Verdict:
This is a conversion you should definitely get. Not only is it the first Turtmple conversion ever, but it’s done by NOKA too. The 3 other versions are an added bonus, don’t be afraid to use them, unless you don’t want weird colors that are off. Highly recommended with one reservation: that V-pole masking problem that may get players stuck.

How can i setup it for TSF ?
Hmm, lets just say that this stuff is very good. Another JJ1 conversion, what comes in four different versions, which all are quite good, Especially detail of the converted tiles. This set does not mis any important tiles, i think. Colors are bit weird, and little bit too bright though, on the other 3 versions, but after all i have no major complaiments.
Masking is good too. Its smooth, there is no jagged edges, or little dots, so its perfect score from masking. by the way, mask messages are nicely done too. :)
Colors are nice too, theyre quite nicely done, and they’re funny, ( and they won’t get boring ) since there are 4 different versions, like i said earlier.
So what is my rating? im thinking 8.7, hopefully it wont get removed. :P

Okay, sure, I’m a little late to review this. :P Well, this level is one of the most interesting levels I have played, you go around smashing crates in order to gain access to the boss area. This is not an easy task, as the whole level consits of spikes and other obsticles which stand in your way. Here’s my review:
Dino Station
Eyecandy:
The eyecandy in this level was one word: spectacular. This is probably the best eyecandy I have ever seen in all my years of Jazz Jackrabbit 2, I’m not kidding. All the layers used were used with great skill. However, occasionally the foreground annoyed me because it continued to get in my way while I was playing. This was only a minor problem, so no points were subtracted from the rating.
Gameplay:
Like I said in the introduction to this level, most of the level consists of smashing crates to gain access to the boss area. I have no complaints and I am completely satisfied with the gameplay.
Weapon/Ammo Placement:
It all blended in fairly well with the tileset. I have no complaints/disatisfactions upon the placement of weapons nor ammo.
Enemy Placement:
The enemy placement was acceptable. The selection was good as well. The enemies in this level consist of: Tuf Turtles, Ravens, Dragons and a Bubba Boss (I think that’s it). I think this enemy selection is just perfect for this level. Good job.
Bugs:
Okay, it is obvious that this level has been tested out. There were no bugs whatsoever that I could find of.
Overall:
Okay, this level has got to be one of my favourites. I suggest you download it right away.
The Rating:
I think this level fully deserves an 8.5. It provided a hard challenge, very good eyecandy and so on. Well done.

It’s a nice but hard program.
I should give it a 8,5.[This review has been edited by Stud]
Hum hum…Hmm…Pretty good for your first tileset!!It’s simple, and the best program to use for a first tileset PAINT! And you used that
It got al the necessary basic stuff for a tileset. And the rest is pretty good to! I give you a 5.6+0.4 becouse it’s your first tileset! It’s pretty good for your first!

I won’t rate it because I didn’t really looked good on this tileset.
First of all I will say that your tileset isn’t really bad as your first tileset. He.. it’s really simple, it was made in Paint for sure.
Don’t worry do more tilesets (but the good ones!) -I was drawing tilesets like this on my begining too.
One more thing:
I HATE WHEN PEOPLE ARE GIVING PASSWORD FOR THEIR EXAMPLE LEVEL!!!!!!!!!
GRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
### GRRR########
It makes me mad and then I’m changing from Sentimental Bunny to Evil one!
I like to review a tileset from ex level when I am looking in JCS at it, and I can run it from JCS and I don’t have to look for it in my home cooked levels which is full of junk!
Wow! you should download this right away, youll find three good levels in the zip, which isn’t even too large.Lets start with review:
Eyecandy: good/very good
The eyecandy is good, i almost love it. Diamondus, Labrat, and Jungle, have excellent tileset use, i just love it. Great job with da eyecandy!
Gameplay:ok
Okay, its an a dissapointment, that levels are so small. Make bigger levels and you would get ratings over 7.5 easily. :)
Placement:Hmm,good/ok. Ammo was placed rightly – so no major complaiments.
Fun factor/originality: Good
Hmm, i think these cool three levels are very original, and fun too. They would be cool in duels, becuz of the size. End of my review, which is quite short. ( sorry, i was quite tired )
DOWNLOAD RECOMMEDATION:sure
HOST THESE:I would, if i could host. :)

Well, what do you find from the zip file? a small christmas themed set, and example level by Stud.Well, i think that set is way too small, and there should be more eyecandy tiles, that would make me rate higher. Graphic quality is also poor. Well, masking is ok, but could use some work.Overall, i have no major complaiments, and lets just say that this set is ok.

Ok, 2 have reviewed the set , now it’s my turn. It will be a thorough review, pointing out details missed so badly by others.
And it starts off well: the first ones didn’t see it’s TSF only A reviewer should both have 1.23 and TSF.. rant rant rant (I should start making an article ;p)
Basic Stuff:
Let’s see… ground blocks are there, two kinds: snowy and normal blocks. There’s background for layer 8 in the form of solid blue sky with yellow stars. I don’t see any wall tiles. The necessary stuff is there, but a good tileset needs a lot more.
Event tiles:
A tileset without extras like vines or poles makes a dull level. Fortunately this set isn’t without extras: I see vines, a sign and a destructible block: a weapon block for the bubble blaster. That’s all :s
Eye candy:
This set has eye candy too, but’s just as rare as the event blocks. I see some rocks, presents, some grass, smal tree and even a snow man. There’s background eye candy too: a mountain top, but a bit lonesome and on the short side. And there’s something that looks like a cloud? It’s light blueish shade, an unlikely color for clouds. I would have preferred white. Water’s there too, but it may give the impression you’re not really in it. And let’s not forget the animation for layer 8… Yep, I’m done :P
Colors:
I can only guess this tileset is either made in Paint (if so, get a better program, like Paint Shop), or the author is a beginner. Either way, the colors are all solid, no gradient whatsoever (different shades of the same color put next to each other, looks very good). The colors are at a rather dark shade (is it my monitor?), they could use a little more lighting.
Masks:
The author already knows the main principle on masking: the snowman, presents and smal trees are removed from the mask, among some background tiles, and that’s all he did. The masks aren’t smoothened out where necessary, or adapted. Which brings me to the vine mentioned earlier. Vines do not work properly unless the mask has a certain shape. Result? a vine that doesn’t work.
Verdict:
Nice first try, but seriously: this tileset could use a lot of improving. The set itself is smal, doesn’t have enough extras to make it appealing to use, and it’s TSF only. I’m sorry, no recommendation from me. If I were you, Stud, I suggest looking at the site about creating tilesets by Disguise. A 4 from me.

I know, but i had a hard work to find out how to make a tileset,
and don’t review the example level.
I don’t have the tileset.
where can i get it?[This review has been edited by Stud]
Even good. It has snowy ground (‘coz it’s Christmas), grassy ground, ice, stuff for layer 7, background with some animates, interactive tiles and eyecandy ones, author’s sign. Quality is slightly above average. Now I’m going to say that this tileset has just 63 usable tiles. TOO SMALL. And snow doesn’t work. You should made snow for layer 1. Example level doesn’t shows features of this level. And there are many features :P
I’ll no rate ‘coz it’ll be a low rating. Merry Xmas for all!
DX, maybe it’s bad tileset and you could rate it at 6. But then why you rate good levels saying “nice” and place also 6? Confusing :/
I wasn’t reviewed example lev. I just say that it doesn’t shows many of tiles’ features.
[This review has been edited by Cooba]
low?
ther ar many bugs. ther is graas
ground and ther is a bug. no UP
no down and many others.
the tileset is small and ugly.
i think you made it with PAINT ( MS )
a 6 from me

Test,1..2..3..ROGGER!Over and out!(He I have to make an intro!!;)
hmm nice
eyecandy:
I haven’t see ONE tilebug, but the eyecandy is a bit boring. You have no textured background, only something on layer5.
enemy placement:
Well,Fine! But I died on the first time becouse you putted 3tuff turtles on one tile!!That’s to much! But the rest was fine! And then I mean realy fine! Not to much and not that way of no enemy’s!
Ammo/food/carrot and other:
“Where is my space-food mom?”“I thaught I was in the stores! But not!”
Hee dx!, how can I live with no chips, chocolat and milk? And a carrot is realy good for your eyes! Maybe you must eat a carrot, so you can see that you putted no food, carrot and other things in the lvl! There was only one blaster-powerup in the lvl! I can only hope, that enemy’s(afther they died;)give me some gems and others! This is very bad!!
Gameplay:
Good…Your starting with…puzzles? are this puzzles? Well if you say so…
Where was I? Oh je…So you can open a door. If this open, You can get in a space-ship and fly trough some lizards.
So the flow and things is good!
Overall:
A nice lvl! Some ammo can be placed in the lvl when DX got his carrot in his stummic(HAHAHA) and the tuffturtles can be placed on other spots and it’s nice to make a round in the space in a space-ship!So a nice lvl!
Download this : YES!
HOST this : What you whant!
Final rating : An 6.7!
What I want to say: DX,Spend more time on your lvl, you can do better!
Okay, real one Bjarni. There are many flaws with your review:
1) Ugh… in Diamondus Battlezone there is “Only one powerup” according to you. Where there are actually two powerups: a seeker and a blaster powerup. Where as in Blackout Basement you say, “A ton of powerups”. No offense or anything, but if there isn’t enough powerups in Diamondus but there are a “ton” of powerups in Blackout Basement, surely you must not know how to count, eh?
2) Blackout Basement has “many hooks”? I don’t think so. 2 isn’t a lot. Tsk… tsk…
3) You say in Blackout Basement that it has “cool poles” (finally, something good you said about my level), well, there is only ONE pole, so you can’t use the plural.
4) In all the levels you say, “Too few start points”. These levels are duel levels, so they are only meant for 2 players.
I hope I haven’t been to critical, but the real one Bjarni, correct your review and don’t be so critical. Many of the things you subtracted points for in my level are your mistakes. These levels took me almost a week.
That is all I have to say, don’t question my authority. If anyone else wishes to rate or comment on this level, don’t hesitate to do so.
And Bjarni Haraldur Sigfússon (as you like to be called), could you please correct your review? Thanks.[This review has been edited by Jaws3k]
