Please include some documentation. This has the looks of a very (overly, in fact) complicated level, but you give no instructions whatsoever, so it’s a little hard to review/rate.

Don’t put passwords on your levels. No one will try to edit them. Anyway, I can’t rate this. It doesn’t appear in my homecooked level list. And I can’t look at it in JCS.

“Ok, correct me if I’m wrong, but is this much different from saying “This level has horrible gameplay, so don’t rate the gameplay.”? “
Er… you’re kinda right there Violet.
Though I believe this is a bit different…

“The tilesets are small, so you can not rate the eyecandy of the levels (but you CAN rate the tileset use…. hmmm).”
You mean tileset use goes with eyecandy?

“No hook in the smaller one, only one type of block.”
Actually, the vine can be used as a hook. But I understand that you don’t consider it as a hook… Maybe I had to show it in the levels. I’m not asking you to change what you said, since you’re more or less right.

I’m not annoyed with reviewers. Are you saying that because of my article? I wrote that article more for the others than for me, I already said that. I made these cuz I like small tilesets. And I suddenly felt like making some.

Ok, so much for the comments on your review for now.

Say, you’re not going to actually give the rating, are you? You rated the theme of the tilesets. And, as I asked in the text file, ONLY rate by following what I said. In case you wouldn’t, I asked you not to rate. That’s my right, isn’t it?

Good lvl pack with intersting levels. The tileset choosage, the enemys the ammo, the other goodies.. everything is super! It’s good that you had chosen good tilesets with good graphics.

It would be better if you would build 6 levels and use three tilesets, it would be like a real jj2 episode!! [This review has been edited by SD]

The most complete super mario bros 3 tileset ever. Pretty much any tile you can think of is in there. Every one of the 8 worlds are covered and all the exciting and non-exciting animations and non-animations are there at your fingertips (or mousetips). And the masking is perfect. There are only two thing really wrong with it and that is:

1) There is no animations or still shots of any of the bosses. Granted, big icons of people aren’t generally accepted as the norm in most levels, but bosses tend to be liked in levels or packs that have themes to them. Any diehard SMB fan WANTS those figures. Also, the famous “wand” is missing.

2) There is simply no bacon in this tileset. I can’t figure out for the life of me why anyone would leave such an important thing out.

Good job! I, in all my mercy and consideration, give you a low 9!

EDIT: Ok, some great stuff has been added to the tileset, but a few problems are still there. The biggest part, which is not your fault, is that the colors for some of the objects could have been better retained. The next not so big problem is that the flowers have no masking so it can’t hurt you by just being there with an event over it. In conjunction with these two problems, along with the fact that I tend to overrate peoples stuff, I change my score to a 9.5.[This review has been edited by AtomicFeline]

First of all, I would like to congratulate Spaztic on being the 10 million, seven hundred sixty second thousand, eight hundred third person to create a conversion of the classic Super Mario Brothers 3 game. I am sure this will not soon be forgotten. And, while your princess may be in another castle, this is probably a superior version compared to even the best Marionic offerings out there, even though it has been some time since I last played a level featuring Hellraiser’s current Mario Brothers 3 standard set. Even though I have not exactly played every single little part of Super Mario Brothers 3, I have a general idea of it. And I know that this is missing Giant World or whatever, which is pretty much the only thing that it is missing. Still, this is one of the best Mario sets out there.

THEME: Well, uh, let us see…Mario is the theme. Wow. There is not much more to say here. It is the Mario games in a tileset. The theme is Mario, and the entire set is Mario. Specifically, if I was to classify this beyond “Mario,” it would probably be as a platformer-based 8-bit tileset. Graphics quality is not great, but that is no fault of Spaztic.
Pros: One minute into testing: It’s Mario!
Cons: Ten minutes into testing: Oh. It’s Mario.
Rating: N/A.

GRAPHICS: The graphics are, to put it nicely, not the focus of this tileset. Then again, they do not necessarily need to be. This is, pure and simple, a base conversion. I will evaluate for my final score the quality of graphics compared to the original, but for this, I unfortunately have to make due with what it offers compared to other tilesets. And that is not much. While everything looks passable, it is all really low-color and bad. Just like the original game is. Oh well.
Pros: Good for a Mario conversion.
Cons: Bad for nearly everything else.
Rating: 6.7

INVENTORY: This is a conversion. As a conversion, it lacks most of the things that Jazz 2 needs but Mario does not have. This includes, but is not limited to, hooks, sucker tubes, and the like. I suppose you could use those flower tubes for sucker tubes, but for the rest of everything else, you are pretty much stuck. There is not much added by the conversion – little more than the author’s name.
Pros: Everything that was in Mario that is relevant is here. And Spaztic’s name, here, for you freaky Spaztic cult people.
Cons: If something was not in the original Mario, you are out of luck.
Rating: 7.0

ORIGINALITY: To be honest, there is really very little that is all that original about the tileset. It is a Mario set and by nature, turns out looking a bit ugh. At least it covers many areas that the other various Mario tilesets do not. That is the main thing that saves it from a low score here.
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 7.5

COMPETITION: Hellraiser’s Mario tileset was also pretty good, although not as good as this.
Rating: 8.5

EASE OF USE: This is really, really, really, really easy to use. After all, it is a Mario tileset. How can you get any more simple? There are a few small inconsistincies, and many of the things are difficult to use without looking tacky, but mostly everything is both easy to use and nicely done. This tileset is quite easy to use, and often is very hard to make look bad. As such, it is great for teaching new people how to use JCS.
Pros: Really easy to use.
Cons: Does nothing to make the tileset any easy to use than it already is, not that this is a huge downfall, since only people without opposable thumbs will have problems using this tileset.
Rating: 8.5

MASKING: Generally good. There were a few small things that I noticed, but not enough to detract from the score all that much. Jaggies are not a major problem, although a minority of the tiles do suffer from small little holes in the mask that could theoretically cause a few insignificant problems. It was difficult to get stuck during testing.
Pros: Few, if any, errors.
Cons: None to mention.
Rating: 8.2

OVERALL (not an average): Overall, this tileset’s scores do average out to something significantly lower than my final rating. Why did this happen? Because this is a conversion. Unfortunately, little was done to improve the conversion beyond baseline importing of the tiles and the addition, of course, of a graphic featuring the author’s name. It would have been nice to see such things as poles, hooks, and the like, but this is good enough. I am sure that anyone who is even half a Mario fan will be all over this one. It is a tough choice between this tileset and Hellraiser’s, but so far, without extended road testing, it does appear like this one is in the lead. Well done, Spaztic face.
Pros: Very good.
Cons: Adds no new tiles, which could be a major problem down the road.
Rating: 8.2

Ok, this pack has a few rules regarding how you are allowed to review it:
The tilesets are small, so you can not rate the eyecandy of the levels (but you CAN rate the tileset use…. hmmm).
The tilesets are small, so you can not rate the size of the tilesets.

Ok, correct me if I’m wrong, but is this much different from saying “This level has horrible gameplay, so don’t rate the gameplay.”? Continues list

The tilesets are small, so you can not rate the theme of the tilesets.
You are not allowed to have an “Overall” category in your review. (Actually, I’m not sure about this one, but it wasn’t listed in either of the category listings…)

Anyway, as you might guess, I have decided to review these things on their merits, and not what Waz says is irrelevant. Because eyecandy is important, and a theme is important, and the other stuff is kind of relevant.

TILESETS:
THEME: None of them have any apparent theme. Like several of Waz’s tilesets, they seem to be an area composed of bricks in the background, with solid blocks and gradient pillars in layer 4. This is getting kind of old. With no apparent theme, there’s not all that much to talk about here.
Pros: N/A
Cons: No apparent theme.
Rating: 3.0

GRAPHICS: Graphics are, also, pretty much standard Waz. A few ok looking blocks, some gradients, a few bricks, and some nice looking extra eyecandy stuff (at least in the 30 tile). Ok, but not too realistic, and not paticularly incredible, either.
Pros: All about the same level of quality, tiles look right sitting next to each other, some stuff looks cool, even.
Cons: Could be better.
Rating: 6.5

INVENTORY: 10 tiles: Block, tubes, vine, spikes. 30 tiles: Block, tubes, hook, vine, spikes.
Pros: Some things are there, sucker tube in the bigger one looks cool.
Cons: No hook in the smaller one, only one type of block.
Rating: 7.0

ORIGINALITY: Other then some of the graphics, there is nothing much original about these. They feel incredibly rehashed, and give me a feeling of deja vu. The */!/? block is kind of interesting, but it’s a bit hard to make out, and it would make more sense to just have it be a ? block.
Pros: Some original things.
Cons: Not too many, block could be better.
Rating: 6.0

COMPETITION: Once again, it’s hard to list competition without a definite theme. However, feel free to look through Waz’s other tilesets and decide which combination of the same types of tiles you like the most.
(No pros given)
(No cons given)
(No rating given)

EASE OF USE: As you might expect, small tilesets like these are quite easy to use, especially when the walls are blocks and not something more complicated. I do have a complaint, though. The vertical gradients in Waz17 don’t have enough possibilities – they fit onto one side of the diagonals, but not the other, and there’s no tile to shift from flipped to unflipped.
Pros: Mostly good.
Cons: A missing tile or two.
Rating: 7.2

MASKING: Masking seems fine, though it strikes me the mask for the spikes could go up a Little higher…
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 7.2

OVERALL: These are some ok tilesets, though nothing special. They seem to have been created more because Waz has gotten annoyed with reviewers then anything else.
Pros: not bad! :=D
Cons: A few flaws.
Rating: 6.7

Average rating for the tilesets: 6.2

I shall finish this review by reviewing the levels as well later. In the meantime, this is left N/A.

Good idea but it’s impossible because all you have to do is shoot it, if you just stand there and shoot you’re ok, so the only way to score is to be stupid enough to jump over the shell.

Ahh… I knew I would lose if I tried vision over profit… You can’t have toasters or elecroblasters as they would destroy the turtle shell. The object of the scorekeepers box is so they don’t get in the way.

A failed expirement then. I wish I could delete it. Delete it, delete it now!

See labratkid, that’s why I put in the ice. Freeze the other player and score, or just shoot better. And you were wondering what it was for. Hmmmm wouldn’t be much fun to play as the level is very, very small and it is just a flat field. Maybe if you had slopes and stuff on the field. Also this reminds me of a level someone made for an old first person game. The level had you with rocketlaunchers trying to shoot each other into the goals which would result in them being disintergrated!!

Well ,there’s kind of an idea in it… but this gets boring real fast. Maybe, the same type of game would be more fun in a bigger level, why not with obstacles. But, in a bigger level, the goalkeeper might have a problem… Another problem is the fact that the shell can get buttstompt, and broken. That way it would be to easy in a bigger level to prevent the shell from going into a goal. In a small level, the other player might not act quikly enough to do that. But this gametype sucks in a small level, so were kinda getting in a vicious cercle(I don’t know if the word “vicious cercle” exists in english :P).

I won’t give this a rating, since I consider it as some sort of demo level to show a gametype. And the soccer gametype already existed before today, which leaves me with nothing to rate.
