I like this tileset, all though it gets old after a while. The example level isn’t all that impressive, but it’s a good download overall.
Eh, it’s okay. The colors are really messed up, though, especially in Muckamock in Industrial… but it’s still nice.
I like this tileset, but I don’t like the mask too much. The example level level is also quite nice. I liked how you made it so you could put lightning on your levels!
Download, definetely.
Not applicable. This is not the first time someone has modified Battle1 to improve and get rid of one of its many bugs. Unfortunately, this is a fairly trivial edit. This bug is more or less destroyed by Respawn.exe, and it is not exactly nececssary in the entirety to create this in order to eliminate it. Not to mention, it changes the flow of the level. No longer can you kill someone waiting for the copter. Now you have to chase them. Otherwise, this category is just like the original Battle1.

hmmmmmm reminds me of Sonic 2 Death Egg Zone. I wonder if thats where his idea came from :p.
I say good for his tileset because
Very detialed
Lots o’ animations
Good masking
Lots o’ original stuff
Some useful stuff
I say Bad BlurredD as well because
Not all tiles are other sides and require fliping, including some animating tiles
Some not so original stuff (some stuff was taken from Sonic 2 Death Egg Zone, but it looks different).
Some useless stuff
Not very user friendly at first
Even with these cons,it’s still a good tileset. Download? yes!!
(PS BlurredD, did you realy get the idea from the Sonic 2 Death Egg? It looks so much like it.)
(Edit: Excuse my improper grammer, but thats fixxed and hopfully no one saw that :p – Gecko)[This review has been edited by Gecko]
But when the copter doesn’t respond for people it’s easier to kill them! :(
Waits for the above review to go away
TILESET/TILESET USE: All four of these levels use the author’s own Waz15, and yes, that does get boring. Each of the levels uses a different version of the tileset (Normal, Green, Night, Ice), but the tileset use is so very similar in all of them (basically just how they’re supposed to be used) that it comes out feeling very repetitive… repetitive… repetitive. Still, everything fits together, though I can’t say I like how the masking on the pillars effects gameplay.
Pros: Everything works.
Cons: Used the same way in all the levels, nothing paticularly interesting about the tileset use, pillars have problems.
Rating: 7.0
WEAPON/ITEM PLACEMENT: I guess these were placed ok. There were a decent amount of weapons, but not too many, and carrots seem ok. I’m not quite sure an RF Powerup is a good idea in one of these levels, as they’re so very cramped it’s more likely to get you in trouble then the other people, but Oh well! the rest is ok. Except in Waz38, where you can get the bouncy powerup by just shooting through the sucker tube.
Pros: Decent placement.
Cons: A few flaws.
Rating: 7.2
ORIGINALITY: There’s not very much that is original in these levels. The Toaster Powerup Poles are kind of new, though they take a bit too long for my tastes, and a few of the structures are different, but for the most part, be it design or tileset use, the originality factor is not high. Which is not too surprising, as it seems to be Waz’s weak point.
Pros: A few dashes.
Cons: Just not very much.
Rating: 6.2
GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: Four cramped little levels with nothing much to speak of in the way of flow, which while not as important as in CTF, is still rather handy in Battle. Gameplay’s ok, but you spend too much time crashing into walls and falling down for my liking, or getting attached to a vertical pillar when you expected to fall down. Not too much in the way of strategy is evident in these levels, either.
Pros: Believable battles.
Cons: Cramped, low flow, low strategy.
Rating: 6.5
REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: Hmmmmm. Well, these levels are mildly entertaining, but if I were to host them, I would take advantage of the fact they all lead to each other and give the server a low roast count, as the levels get old kind of quickly.
Pros: N/A
Cons: N/A
Rating: 6.2
OVERALL (not an average): These are four medium small battles of ok quality, but really nothing special. They don’t show all that much work, and the originality factor is low. I think we can conclude a 10 (with no english explanation) is too high for these levels.
Pros: They’re ok.
Cons: A few bad spots.
Rating: 6.5
Edit: Rating fix (miscalculated previously)
Edit in response to Waz: I am not saying it is necessarily boring to use any given set. However, four small battle levels, all using the same tileset, ARE going to get boring to look at. As for the pillars, their masking is normally fine, except for the way that they are used which makes them seem messed up. As it is, you can get attached to the sides of walls when you don’t want to.[This review has been edited by Violet CLM]
Now usually I don’t play jj2 much anymore but since I was just curious I’ll give a short review :):
Well this Tileset has more or less the same drawing-style like Desperate Cry. I don’t really know how you say it but it just looks a bit simple-drawed. It’s a bad thing you don’t give your tilesets a 3D-Style and more gradients (especially the ground-tiles). But at the other hand its still suprises me how you can bring up nice levels from the tilesets you make :D. Therefor I think the tileset is way more better then above average. So here a 8 from me. Go live with it :P Btw, Im looking forward for a new tileset…
Its a great idea. But some people have seen this problem a looong time ago and fixed it…
I have a problem!
I have the Levels edited with the TSF-Editor.
I don’t know how to change to 1.23 .
ik vind ze te GEK!
(This site is for reviewing levels in English and giving good reasons, neither of which this review does. Rating removal / making review “go away”. -Trafton)[This review has been edited by Trafton AT]
Why is this TSF? The other was 1.23….
Neat idea. Really good level. I think everyone should download it.
Very nice, tilesets I’ve never seen anybody do. Download, yes.
Overall very nice tileset, very few bugs, and lots of nice animation.
LABRATKID’S RATING SYSTEM… Very good, good, okay, bad, very bad…
ANIMATION: GOOD
The animation was quite nice, all though a couple of the sequences had somewhat choppy playback, like that skull that comes in and out of the wall.
BUGS: VERY GOOD
All most all the tiles went together here fine, no bugs that I saw.
MASK: GOOD
I hate masks for levels with lots of angled floors (like diagnol floors, slanted floors, etc.) because you get stuck a lot. However, this mask was surprisingly good.
Very good tileset, download? Yes.
PS, the example level is good… I didn’t rate by it, though.
I’m suprised over how much this is under-rated.
Trafton uses his completely own rating system, which sometimes can make a weird rating to a good level. You do NOT have to copy the rating straight ahead off because you think his reviews are godly.
Because this level is BIG. It has tons of pickups, secret, and hidden coins you can collect. It has alot of annoying bees, and some turtles. There’s powerups various places, and lot of food so you can get sugar rush easy.
This level is fun, and absolutely wroth download!
Could’nt find tileset Battleships JJ1 or someting. Re-upload and include the tileset.
Hmmm… that’s strange, I did’nt found the level in my Home Cooked list. Try to re-upload again.(Or maybe I’m blind? ;) )
A very good Diamondus level. Diamondus is my favorit tileset. Many, some hard and some easy to find, secrets. Too bad that the most levels of the Diamdus tileset have the same music file. But it’s okay.
So, in overall: Good level, medium size, lots of diamonds.(I love diamonds!)
P.S.: Good for your first level, my first level was bad… ;( Oh yeah, did you like my Diamondus level, Trafton? :)
