Don't even bother downloading this one, it's just a flat surface with enemy spam.
This level is rather small, especially for a CTF level, but got everything needed for an enjoyable CTF event.
The weapons are well placed, except the RF PU, which should be placed somewhere hard to reach, perhaps swapped to the bouncer PU.
The eyecandy is lacking, but not missing. Also, it’s hard to create a good looking JJ2 level with a JJ1 tileset, so nice work, I guess.
A bug in the new JJ2+ makes the background transparent, so the level can only be played properly with the regular JJ2. I hope this gets fixed.
Next time try making your level a little bigger, especially if it’s going to be another CTF level.
WHY? because there are some people that can’t find the key to this | character, so they would use this!
go get your facts right…
This is kinda pointless becuse there is already a built in text colorer in jj2 so why waste the time opening this and clicking when you can just use the one IN jj2?
Ow, look, a new ctf level, let’s review it!
Introduction
Super Substructure, interesting name, like rabbits shootin’ around under some factory, nah that’s what you wouldn’t expect!
Look/Eyecandy
It’s pleasant, I could say realistic (As much as a level needs to be). At one place (left to the bnc PU) it feels a but confusing first but it’s fastly learnable. The walls are always made with edges, it makes it easy to detect where can you pass. It’s not overdone, though it would be possible to make it more pretty. The tileset offers huge amount of things to use, you didn’t abuse it, but of course, it’s impossible to use everything from it, so I won’t take it as a bad point.
hah, I didn’t find the +1 carrots for a long time.

Layout
Ouch! It’s a larger level, and is totally assymetrical, what generates problems here, because the things are arranged closer to one team. All the powerups are closer to the red base, also the spawns are at the bases so. In a 3v3 or 2v2 you will get PUs more often as red at spawnings and this is a bad thing. The layout is quite irregular, what I actually like. One more thing, the bases are very differently structured, what makes it even more (red) basied. It takes moderate time to learn the level and to get used to the flow.

Gameplay
I did not try it online
Due to the layout and the many PUs the amount of carrots are right, as being 1 full and two small. I think it would fit 3v3s likely, also bigger games. There are some campy areas, let’s see what are they: The RF PUs place, which gives a way to try to dd, but it is more like a trap, as you can only get to one place with it, and it’s easily broken by some BNCs. The blue base is easy to defend with seeks, standing at the base, the red is hard to defend fully, because the fly carrot and the tube to the right makes a possibility to get to the base without meeting an enemy.
Now let’s see the flow. This is a part of the level I found a bit annoying. The springs at the right side are weirdly arranged, the spring at 58 31 aren’t putting you properly, also the one at 73 50 can slow you, but these are not problems once you got used to the moving in the level. However, after running around a few times I still found myself at places that I wasn’t intended to go to (for example the Blaster PU by the green spring under it, the place at 55 35; 118 18).
An other problem I think would occur, is that it is disbeneficial to play with Lori/Jazz, bc Spaz’s double jump is useful to get you faster in moving.
Now i was a lot criticizing so I’m now gonna try to focus on positive things. I really like the Red base’s structure, it’s quite interesting and unique. The powerups are nicely chosen to the environment. (RF for horizontal shooting, BNC to spam from above, Toaster to hit when going up or down at bigger vertical falls, though the blaster might not be so necesary)

Pickups
The PUs and the carrots are rightly placed. There are quite a lot of simple ammo around the level, even too much (a lot of seekers at the right side) I don’t want to go deep into where and why, as so because I didn’t try it online I’m sorry! ._..

Music
The name of it is : ‘Point of Departure’, it’s in the musicdisc ‘Progression’ and the maker of it is ‘Necros’, one of the best tracked music makers so far, he should get the credit for it!
This is a great music in itself. Even though it makes me more think of nature it’s kinda fitting it, additionally because the music itself was inspirated by a documentary of bullet trains (some kind of modern trains) (As Necros explains it in the Track’s info)
You can download ModPlugTracker for free and with that you can play all kinds of tracked musics, also make them, and the info is usually “hidden” at the sample/instrument names.

Overall
This is a great level, you are improving a lot, looking at your older levels and mainly that’s why I wanted to award you with a review. If i will try it online I might complete this to help you even more.
I do believe it’s sufficient to get you applied at XLM. Good Job!
7 out of 10
I assume (did not check, so I’m not certain) he used FawFul’s Wicked Woods level as a base, then he deleted all tiles so he could start anew, while being too lazy to think of a new levelname.
I’ve done this before as well because of backgrounds / animated tiles so you don’t have to make the animations yourself, especially if the standard background was used, no one notices / cares. I
I just wonder why did you name it with xlm?
Well well, Epitome II, this creates some expectations.
I actually expected a remake, but since this wasn’t the case and you aren’t Merlyn, why are you calling this Epitome then? Basicly the only thing these levels have in common is the tileset, though you could say the blue base, RF powerup and the carrot are on quite the same position as in Epitome, although the layout is way different, seems like false packaging to me.
When I look to the grades from the quick reviewers I get a bit frustrated, (I am not the only one btw) nowadays many maps get overrated. The original Epitome only got an 8.1 and was way better than this. This is certainly not a bad level, but its nothing special. Many paths are too small to allow a good flow, except for the area above the carrot which is suddenly quite big, but without a real purpose.
In the lower left corner of the level is a text saying: Epitome II: created by Merlyn. I don’t think he created this map, so just put your own name there.
The background is also different to Epitome and I think it is moving a bit too fast, having a negative effect on the playing experience. The foreground and layer 4 are alright, although they have little special to offer. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this for downloading. Perhaps this level could be used for a duel tournament, although they mostly pick the traditional levels, which are out of this level’s league.
Eyecandy: 7
Gameplay: 7
Originality: 6
Final Grade: 6.7
So there it is, quite a harsh review compared to what Epitome got. Though, looking at your previous uploads I think this is not a bad delivery from you. Just nothing special really, I would consider changing the name to something original.
A nice small and fast level, perfect for duels. In my opinion there is a bit too much ammo, but besides that it has a very good gameplay!
Looks really good at a glance, way better than the original level at least. Some tactical spots, interesting placement and layout, doesn’t seem TOO imbalanced. I quite like it, great job.
Not too keen on some of the seeker placement though, but the rest seems in order.
A nice test with relaxing music and eyecandy, which really helps to put off the stress you get from tests. Nice work with the AngelScript too.
Two functions crash jj2 and you give it 10.0? :p
Confirming as a cheat tool, also possible malware; the program kept running even if stopped, and thus couldn’t be removed without killing the task. Jotti didn’t find anything though.
Not bad. This is actually very fun to play with and some features work with JJ2+ (I know I tested it). As far as bugs go, in JJ2+ the spammer and arzatory gives Stack Overflow exceptions. Other than that the utility works perfectly.
How do you unlock the Super Mario Bros. Animator Manipulator (The one that says [Shaker] next to it)?
All I have to say to you shellyJay is haters gonna hate. >:P
“do not use this level if your pc is slow”
Really?
LOL, i was the one who said said “you should upload it on j2o”, but i really was joking… i didnt expect you’d actually put it here. I admit it it was kinda fun playing that lvl, but its fun only first 5 min, then it becomes boring. You should delete this upload before someone gives you rating -5.
Sykio, whoever told you to upload this, he was joking. Seriously.
