A pretty good level overall. Good eyecandy, good design. I only found the background(=somewhat non-existant) a little dull.
There is camping in the level with the coin warp :P. People can just hide up there getting health.
I like the use of the tileset. Hey, it’s original. And theres almost to camping. I like it :)
This idea is nice I think, making levels especially for duels. The music is good and not much to say about. The level is a bit too small mabye, but the background makes it come good together. Well, nice level I must say, but nothing really speciall overall. Good job.
“Smog CTF” is a great CTF map using Blade’s well-known and very good looking “Wasteland” tileset (despite the fact that it’s pretty easy to use, as EvilMike admitted when i was beta-testing, i really like the idea of using this set).
The design is quite open which makes the level fluently playable and the CTF layout is fair enough, as far as i, as a battle freak, can judge this. The weapon selection is very good, too. Nothing to complain about.
Still, there is a small downfall. The music (“The Take Over II” by a not-so-well-known belgian tracker) is not my favourite tune, sounds like a cheap techno beat, it doesn’t really fit and the file is WAY too large…over 1 MB!
All in all, this is definitely WORTH THE DOWNLOAD, esspecially if you like CTF and Blade’s tilesets :-)
P.S.: Kinda obtrusive already(?)…EvilMike forgot to set a SP start event once again…i had to test it in MP mode…
This level is very open, huge walk ways, not very much eye candy except for the walls on the background. There are also loads of weapons.
Nothing special, suited for a 7.2
knowone lIKES MY LVLS!
“EvilCastle CTF” is a pretty decent level using the Medivo tileset. Really. It’s not spectacular or extremely exciting but as i said, very decent.
But well…first of all, EvilMike forgot to put single player start events, which makes testing and reviewing a pain…i’m tended to lower my rating because of that (j/k! ;-).
Apart from that little flaw, the layout of the level is quite good…like the eyecandy (nothing special though!). Weapon and event placement are okay, too (nevertheless, i don’t like all the destruct scenery too much).
The author obviously tried to make fair routes from base to base (parts of the layout are “mirrored” if you allow me to put it like that) and the music choice is very good (a classic Fasttracker MOD using 10 channels, obviously a tune by a german tracker as i can see from the song title…gotta be quality :-).
Well, to sum it all up: you can’t do anything wrong with downloading this CTF level (esspecially if you’re a fan of this playing mode). Good work, EvilMike.
Here I am, doing my occasional review. Dig in, foo’!
Installation went as it should, but no readme! People! ;P
INSTALLATION RATING: =
Cream of the crop in the eyecandy deal here. A couple places could’ve been fixed up, and layers could’ve be SLIGHTLY used more, but all in all a very respectable effort.
EYECANDY: 2.8/3
Well, the routes were solid and smooth but not too abundant and without variety. A bit too short for a real CTF. A few nice “secrets”, but nothing for the routes.
The carrot placement was virtually nonexistant. It was very unbalanced considering the powerups (if it’s not SUPPOSED to be balanced, then state it in the readme! =P).
Weapons? Unbalanced with the carrots and gasp some powerups were inaccesible with Jazz! You have to be able to get to the powerups to use them…
WEAPONS: 1.0/2
NAVIGATION/CARROTS: 2.5/4
SUBTOTAL: 3.5/6
Felt great, hehe! Even made in Canada!
OVERALL “FEELING”: 1/1
This one gets a d/l reccomendation. Maybe even a reccomendation into a string.
TOTAL SCORE: 7.3/10
ROUNDED SCORE: 7.2/10
[EDIT: Had to fix a few minor mistakes.][This review has been edited by SteelTalon]
I was wondering, could you all state which level is your favourite? Then I can make another level in it’s style.
I’ll make a long story short.
Eyecandy: 4.0/5.0
Music: 1.0/1.0
Mode of play: 0.5/1.0
Gameplay: 1.0/1.0
Tileset: 2.0/2.0
It’s an 8.5 here.
Great pack with great levels and tilesets :)[This review has been edited by Flea DL]
And something big this is!
The download was faster than I though when looking at the description, but thats prolly because I chose the right time…
There are many level and / or tilesets in the zip file which is good.
As Blade said most of them use the overused diamondus and carrotus tileset and the levels dont seem to be finished on some parts. However a cool background on most levels and some interesting stuff makes the levels interesting to play. The Blue world level for instance has great variation and background, like the weirldlyness (or something level) which also has messed up :) pallettes and colors.
The levels are IMO meant for 2 – 4 player battle in most stuff and the next level settings of all levels is wrong (no sequence just level by level).
All in all I wouldnt say it deserves the 8.7 given by blade, but more of a…. 7.7
PERFECTO!!
Yeah, I like this pack! This is very good, mostly. Evilmike has made a big count of cool levels and putted it in a single pack. He has used mostly Carrottus and Diamondus tilesets, but there’s too his own ones and other people’s. The levels are race, battle, treasure and ctf levels. The levels have lots of pure ideas, and the level design is so accurate. I like it. The weapon placement is in good condition. And the musics are cool tracks from JJ2. But I think the biggest goof is that the levels are not connected to each other. If you have to change the level, you gotta go to the menu and search the next level from the list. And the level names are miscellaneous. It can be hard to search Evilmike’s all the levels from the list. My opinion is that Evilmike should categorize his levels like this EvilmikesBattle1.j2l, EvilmikesRace1.j2l, etc… And I couldn’t run the level called “Desert Of Death”, because the game couldn’t find the level Evilmike5.j2l. Don’t ask me how that happened. There’s one more thing to whine. In some levels there are not start points for Jazz and Spaz, only MP starts, but that’s kinda little problem.
Anyway, this pack rocks. These levels are so great that I should host a server with one of these levels. Great job, Evilmike!
And Evilmike wishes all of us tell our favourite level. My favourite was definitely that JJ1 Diamondus level “Shine-O-Rific Land”.[This review has been edited by Blade]
I felt like returning to the jazz2 community with something big :)
This was a very cool battle level!indeed it was a homade tileset with some copys from a few jj1 tiles. But hey it was cool. There were lots of secrets too!The only thing i did not like was that it was hard at first to get into the temple.
Great tileset and lvl
The layout Design is very Good
I think Dizzy is right. But u guys still give it an 8, well my friends would do the same thing to me.
Looks boring and not because of the one color, but it has no style if u know what mean.
Not a bad level. Just a couple of things I dislike about the layout. Well, the main thing is that it’s confusing. Also, it lacks a few weapons.
Also, I like the lighting idea.
Anyways, beyond average. Should be worth your time downloading. And should make for fun games of CTF.
