How informative, Snooz.

This level is actually not that bad, it’s just let down by a few minor stuff. Things. Yeah.

The whole level is symmetrical. This can or can not be a good thing, but here it works out alright. The design is good enough, you can get around the level easily enough, but the flow could be improved – there were a few platforms placed just to be annoying.
The eyecandy is good – it uses the default Damm backgrounds and music. I liked the way the black tiles were used as a ‘background’ to make it a bit less repetitive. Good on the whole, though.
The weapon placement, however, drops the level down a bit. There’s a lot of ammo pickups, placed in clever enough places. However, there’s a lot of fastfires, but everything has a respawn time of 7 seconds, so getting a full fastfire is easier done than said. Having a full fastfire is powerful, the player needs to earn it. There weren’t any powerups either.

On the whole, not a bad level. Download it if you want, although there’s better out there.[This review has been edited by Shen]

Nice level, I’m just gonna right a list of pros and cons.

Pros………….
Nice eyecandy.
Original things here.
Good gameplay.

Cons………….
The line, “Yay, a sucker tube!” was kind of unncessary, but it’s not a big con.
Not much ammo.
The width of the level should’ve been adjusted so the map would fit nicely (on the right edge of the map, it just ends, and you see a lot of space.

Download reccomendation, like I said for the other level that was just released by darkhelmet.

An average level, really.

Eyecandy: Good
There was pretty good eyecandy, all though not too much to to look at, it made due. It could’ve been better, though. No mistakes, just nothing extremely nice.
Pros: No flaws.
Cons: Nothing great.

Ammo placement: Okay / good
The ammo placement wasn’t too good. The were a lot of spaces in the level with nothing there, though, and ammo could’ve been placed more in some areas.
Pros: Nice placement…
Cons: … where there IS ammo, that is.

Replay / fun factor: Good
Looks like a fun map to play, with plenty of space to move, run, and jump as you please. It uses the all ways fun to play Heaven tileset by the master of all tilesets, Agama.
Pros: Plently of space to run around.
Cons: It may be hard to find your opponent sometimes.

Bugs: Very good
No noticeable bugs here.
Pros: No bugs.
Cons: None.

Originality: N/A
Nothing new, but nothing old… that doesn’t make sense, does it? Oh well, I hope you understand =)
Pros: Nothing is copied.
Cons: Nothing is new.

Download reccomendation for all you Agama fans.

Probably DarkHelmets best level so far.

This level has a very nice first impression, however the more you play it, the more average this level seems.

The gameplay was certainly average for a battle level. It’s playable but nothing really special as it doesn’t dare to uncover any new, good concepts.

I noticed some areas that were open/wall – less, this isn’t good considering players can hide there and not be hurt/killed. I wouldn’t say this is a serious problem but it certainly is quite evil.

The tileset use was average for this set. No new uses to speak of.

The ammo and powerup placement was OK but the coin warp is cheap as you only get pepper spray and fast fires. That would be good for chasing but only very skilled players would consider it.

The carrot placement was ok. No problems to discuss here.

The eyecandy was a tiny bit above average. I can’t quite describe why. You’ll just have to see for yourself.

Overall, this is an average battle level. There were a few tiny things that were above average but still nothing spectacular.

Tileset use: I saw a few bugs, but nothing terrible.

Events: weapon placement was good enough, there was a bonus warp.

Layout: fair enough.

Eyecandy: not good. There wasn’t anything special, or so.

Overall: a little below average level, not worth a download. Sorry.

HEY, first reviewer!

The gameplay is sort of good.
In the eyecandy I found some bugs, too bad…
Gems don’t affect battle levels, you can just leave that out.
Some generators come back to quickly, 5 seconds or so.

GAMEPLAY: 7.2
EYECANDY: 5.0
ITEMS: 4.5
REPLAY?: 6.0

This level is quit interesting. I think you are a beginner aren’t you because this is only your 3rd level. Well, very good then, I will raise my 5.2 wath I have in mind to an 6.2. :)
Practise much, I see a good level future in you!

Well, I’ve seen this hosted many times and since Darkhelmet asked me to review this, I guess I will.

TILESET/TILESET USE: The tileset used was castle. The tileset use, I found some of it interesting. Like the layer 5 (or at least it looked like 5 to me) with those backround eyecandy things on top of the brown backround brick tiles, that was really cool. Though there was a deal of backround eyecandy missing (no layer 6 or 7). There wasnt much foreground stuff as well, but at least it was basic.
Pros: Basic eyecandy, the layer 5 thing amused me.
Cons: Just basic.
Rating:6

PICKUP/ENEMY PLACEMENT: Well, the author has included some powerups here, and they were placed ok. The ammo could use more creativity in some places, other than that there werent much inconveniences. Springs were sometimes placed annoyingly.
Pros: Basically ok
Cons: Nothing really extraordinary.
Rating:5.7

ORIGINALITY: Well, its hard to be original since there is so much castle levels out there. The top was somewhat original, but nothing else. For a new levelmaker using overused tilesets, originality is quite hard for them to master, so I wont ratethis level on originality, but good job on the layer 5 top thing.

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: I found some flaws here. There were some small ones like the fact I wasnt particulary fond of the left side, since the bottom of it was a big dead end (the only way to get out is to go back up, since there is a wall to the left and columns to the right, as well as a floor to the bottom) I did’nt like the fact that I sometimes bumped into the sucker in the wall and it jutted me back, some triggers could of solved this but it wasnt really a big problem. I also wasnt particulary fond of where the warp in the bottom takes you.
Pros: Basic gameplay
Cons: Many things could of been better, and some small downfalls.
Rating: 5.5

Replay value/fun factor: The level is easy to move around at, and would be fun to play with more people, except for the small gameplay downfalls.
Pros: Fun to play
Cons: Some annoying things
Rating: 6.5

OVERALL: A small nicely designed level, with no real complaint except for some small ones which don’t hurt the level toobadly. Its ok and quite good for your second level.
Pros: Nicely done, basic and fun to play
Cons: Some small errors such as lack of eyecandy, potential dead end, warps not really needed, ammo was sometimes strange, somethings could of been fixed.
Rating:5.7

Final Rating: 5.88=I’ll give this a 6 and good job on it.

One more thing, the next level setting is to a different level which isn’t included in the pack. This isn’t good, since the player may not have the other level. Sadly, the rating was dropped by .1 point and was rounded to a 5.7. =([This review has been edited by Blackraptor]

Everything in the above rating I was thinking as I played this level, myself. I thought it was very creative to use most (or maybe all) of the background layers in the castle tileset. I’ve never seen it be done much.
Download? Yes (or you could just wait for somebody to host it :-])

I added .2 points just for the cool background usage. :-p

Not too bad.

Tileset use: rather good. I saw bugs, but there weren’t many.

Layout: actually quite interessting. I have the feeling there’s something “new” in it, but I can’t tell what it is.

Event placement: weapon placement was good. There was a sucker tube, but I didn’t get what it was doing there.

Eyecandy: average. Nothing special.

Overall: a funny level worth a download.

Well, a level that was started before his first and finished after his first. Is it better than his other? lets see…

The gameplay was ok, I enjoyed the few times I played this, however it’s based on the concept that most battle levels use: running around randomly shooting. And this level takes that to a high level as it’s platformy and small. It would be good for a mindless brawl but not for serious situations like duels, in my opinion.

The ammo and powerup placement helps the gameplay I described above. Although it’s not bad.

The eyecandy was average but there were some tiny things that caught my attention for a matter of seconds like holes in the walls and a thing that’s normally used in layers 5-7 that was used on 4. That’s about all.

Little strategy is involved here. It’s platformy and forgiving layout eleminate most of this aspect from the level. This is easily the worst part of this.

The fun factor is existant but like I described in the gameplay, it’s good for a little brawl every now and then. However compared to other battle levels i’d say it’s average.

Overall, this is an average battle level.

Download reccomendation: nothing really interesting/new, I wouldn’t reccomend it to thoose who have little time to waste it on something that’s a been there done that. However, I reccomend it to all battle fanatics to add it their collection.

This is an interesting Castle-based level from a relatively new levelmaker. It’s always nice to see new levelmakers, and this level definitely is promising. Regardless, it is a bit small, and does need some more work before it can be considered a full-fledged level.

TILESET/TILESET USE: The tileset used was the default “Castle” tileset by the Epic Team. Everything seemed to be put together relatively well, although there were a few somewhat questionable tile uses and the level was hard to place in a natural environment (what is it? A floating castle? What’s above it?). However, eyecandy was still nice. The Castle tileset is not exactly an amazing or underused tileset, but still this level managed to make okay use of it.
Pros: Everything seems to fit together.
Cons: Nothing amazing.
Rating: 6.0

WEAPON/ITEM/ENEMY PLACEMENT: This area probably needs some work before it can be perfected. Basic ammo placement was more or less good, but there was little powerups (which isn’t a bad thing for such a level). Other stuff was placed more or less well, with a few small inconsistincies that I noticed. Nothing big, though. Sufficient, and slightly above average.
Pros: Well placed.
Cons: Still not perfect.
Rating: 5.5

ORIGINALITY: Like many levels recently, this level is neither particurally original, nor particurally unoriginal. The level’s top eyecandy was something I have never seen before, but the rest was a pretty basic castle level. Needs more foreground eyecandy.
Rating: N/A

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: The level is small, but what is there is enjoyable. Flow is, as always, less important in battle levels than it is in Capture the Flag levels, but this level has an okay flow. There were a few warp uses which seemed a bit odd, but nothing which hurt this level badly. Layout was good, and although the level was small, it was pretty fun to play, especially when quite a few people were playing the level at once (such as in an online environement).
Pros: Nicely done.
Cons: Small.
Rating: 6.0

REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: This level is small, but it is pretty fun to play more than once. Especially when you can get several people into the game.
Pros: N/A.
Cons: N/A.
Rating: N/A.

OVERALL (not an average): This level is very much promising. It may use a fairly bland Castle tileset and may be small, but it is nonetheless not a bad play and worthy of a look. I can not see it being hosted very often but it definitely shows promise if the level author keeps making more levels and improving. This is a fun level, more or less, though it needs some work. A better atmosphere is needed, in addition to a larger level and some light improvements. Other than that, well done.
Pros: Shows promise. Not bad gameplay.
Cons: Still needs some work. Small.

This is one of thoose rare first levels that is worth seeing/playing for a few seconds.

The gameplay was ok, nothing special, no new gameplay concepts or anything like that (not like any first level has ever had thoose ;P). The carrots were placed well, no problems I noticed here, the layout is average for a battle level but very playable.

The eyecandy was average – below average and needed a bit of work. It is good for a first level but it’s the worst aspect for this. Basicly the background layers were the same as in the default levels and the layer 4 eyecandy appeared bland and boring.

The ammo placement wasn’t too good but not too bad either. Basicly, they’re just placed in squares. Not an important aspect but one that should take notice. The powerups go well with the level, and were placed in “ok” locations, nothing to discuss further here.

Overall, good first attempt. Probably one of the best first levels i’ve ever seen. Keep making maps/levels. As I and others have said, you show a lot of potential.

Download reccomendation: Depends, maybe if you have some extra time to waste.

Not bad for a first try indeed.

There was a kinda simple layout in the level, but it wasn’t that bad. The ammo placement wasn’t great, but it will do.
The worse thing in this level is the tileset use, which wasn’t good. I saw bugs everywhere.

Ok, i have played this many times online, and given many suggestions to this. I still think 2 powerups are a bit to much for this level, but its better than the 3 that were in the level in the first version. The ammo isnt that creative when you look at it, but it shows that the designer at least understood how to use ammo properly, though it could of been better. I didnt like the layout much, the warps could be quite unexpected to new players and they can be quite irritating. Also, when you look closely at the level you see many tileset bugs in the wall. Some places were sorta pointless, like the spring arena, and the level looked empty and bare. Anyways, the level is about average, so I have to agree with Trafton on the raitng. Nothing new about this, but definately good for your first level. keep trying!
Ill actually give this a 5.2, sincethe tileset use, though buggy, is a bit better than average and brings up the mark.

I have played this online and I must say, for a first level this is quite impressive. But it still needs work.

TILESET/TILESET USE: This level uses the classic Tube Electric tileset. The worth of this tileset is somewhat debatable, as it has been used quite a bit in the past, and has gotten a bit old. This level, unfortunately, makes no attempt to make Tube Electric look any better. The eyecandy is generally all-around average, and the level takes no chances with eyecandy. There is pretty standard Tube Electric eyecandy here – nothing to write home about.
Pros: Does not look awful.
Cons: Not very interesting eyecandy. Not very interesting tileset.
Rating: 5.0

WEAPON/ITEM PLACEMENT: This is a fairly small level with slightly above average weapon placement. Some areas, weapon placement was quite good and obviously had thought put into it, but in others weapon placement was lax and clumped. All in all, this measure came out pretty much slightly above average but nothing interesting.
Pros: Not horrible.
Cons: Clumping.
Rating: 5.2

ORIGINALITY: Originality is definitely not the strongest category for this level. It uses “Tube Electric”, which is quite overused, and makes no attempts to make Tube Electric look any more interesting, nor is gameplay very well done.
Rating: N/A

GAMEPLAY/DESIGN: Gameplay and design was OK. The big problem with this level is that it is fairly small, but if you can see past that, gameplay is alright for the size. There are a lot of areas in which there was not all that much room to move around, but after you get used to the layout of this level, it is not so bad. It shows promise, but it definitely needs some tweaking before it is good enough to get a higher score.
Pros: Good layout for a battle level, sort of.
Cons: Small. Flow problems.
Rating: 5.2

REPLAY VALUE/FUN FACTOR: This level is not all that fun to play more than once. This could be because there is not any interesting eyecandy, and because the level does not provide anything new or interesting. Regardless of the reason, this level is not enjoyable to play frequently.
Pros: I suppose it is somewhat interesting.
Cons: But not really that interesting.
Rating: 4.0

OVERALL (not an average): All things considered, this level is slightly below average overall. It is not bad for a first level and definitely shows some promise, but the level needs to be larger and more original before it can stand a chance of getting a better score. Still, if you are the kind of person who enjoys seeing promising first levels, this is definitely worth a look.
Pros: Not bad for a first level.
Cons: Not all that great either.
