So, in this level you have done what many people have done by putting a bunch of bosses, one after the other, all with fair areas to fight them in. You also added a little bit of story to it, which is nice. So, let’s actually get to the main part of the review.
LEVEL 1 – BILSY
(I’m skipping the intro level because it’s irrelevant)
I have always found Bilsy to be a hard Boss to get right. If you place him too far to one side, he’ll go outside the Boss area, or appear inside a wall, and after a while it gets repetative if you don’t make it either interesting, or shorten the battle somehow.
Unfortunately, this battle with Bilsy has both of the aforementioned problems, so it’s not that fun.
Although, the aesthetic isn’t that bad, especially considering the Tileset used.
So, I’ll give this level a 0.5 out of 1 – It could be improved if Bilsy spawned a bit more to the left, and if there was something to stop(Or at least put a damper on) the repetativeness.
LEVEL 2 – BOLLY
Bolly is fun quite a bit of the time, although it would be nice to add some kind of variation.
So, this doesn’t do anything better than you’d think, but it doesn’t do anything worse than you’d think.
I give it a 1 out of 1 – Exactly what you’d expect from a Boss Rush like this.
LEVEL 3 – BUBBA
Like Bilsy, Bubba can get repetative if he doesn’t have something to keep things interesting, and in this Boss Rush, he is indeed repetative. Although, it only gets repetative towards the end of the fight.
So, I give it a 0.5 out of 1 – It would get a 1 if it didn’t get repetative.
LEVEL 4 – ROBOT
The Robot is pretty fun, although it would be nice to see something to make it more interesting, but the rest of the levels in this Boss Rush, what you see is what you get.
So, I give it a 1 out of 1 – I’d give it bonus points if you’d have added something extra.
LEVEL 5 – TUF
Some pretty clever things can be done with this Boss, but this Boss Rush likes to keep things plain, so it’s another case of “What you see is what you get.”
I give it a 0.7 out of 1 – There was so much that could have been done with this, but it’s a bit plain, so it doesn’t get full marks, or a bonus.
LEVEL 6 – UTERUS
Uterus is a pretty fun boss. But it has the same fault as all the previous levels, no variation. But, it’s not that bad on its own.
So, I give it a 0.8 out of 1 – The extra 0.2 and possibly a bonus could be earned if the level had something added to it, like enemy spawners at the sides.
LEVEL 7 and 8 – FINAL BATTLE
Level 7 just gets you to climb some platforms, which is nothing special, although the first platform is slightly annoying to get to. Then, the end of level area is at one specific point at the left of what looks like a boss area. Then, it moves on to the next level which is just that final boss area, just with Carrots and Devan on the right. Yes, it actually has a slight variation. But, other than the fact that there are some carrots, it’s just a fight with the Devan Boss, so again, nothing special.
For those reasons, I give Level 7 a 0.4(The first platform was a block too high, and the final area should have just had the Y Scroll limited, and gone to the Boss then instead of going to a different level), and Level 8 a 0.6 – The Devan fight got slightly repetative, like some of the other Bosses in this Rush, but it could have been saved with some proper variation(Maybe some enemies? Perhaps some AngelScripted events?).
The aesthetic isn’t too bad(Especially considering the tileset), so I’ll give that a bonus of 0.5 for such good use of the Tileset, but other than that, this Boss Rush doesn’t do too much that other Boss Rushes don’t do better. Although, since you’re new here, I’ll go slightly easy on you.
Your overall rating from me is 6 – above average. I think that you could become a very good Level Maker(Possibly up near the top) with a bit of practice. :) Remember, everyone has to start somewhere.
I’ll let people reading this decide to download this or not.
TL;DR: It’s an above average Boss Rush, which I give a 6 out of 10. Feel free to download it if you’re interested.
Okay, this is my first (Proper) review of a Jazz2Online Upload, so let’s get this over with…
I took a look at the name of this and thought “What is this?”, so I went into it and saw what it was. Amazed, I downloaded it and wasn’t disappointed.
Okay, so first you have ALL of Castle 1, then you have ALL of Carrotus 1. A bit like “Carrotus + Castle” by Crazy Rabbit, but his didn’t have all of both of them(It was missing a few), and it had some strange colour bugs. So, either this isn’t the first Carrotus + Castle, or Crazy Rabbit’s one wasn’t the first. Either way, this is way better than Crazy Rabbit’s one.
The first thing I did was play the Example Level, it showed off the Tileset pretty well. So, I opened up JCS and saw that it had almost no flaws, ALL of Castle 1 and ALL of Carrotus 1, almost no Colour Bugs, no disadvantages.
Suddenly, I find myself wondering why these weren’t one Tileset in the first place.
Okay, down to buisness:
+ Almost seamless combination(There’s several masked, invisible tiles on top of each-other, which looks strange).
+ Bonus tiles to make transitions from Castle to Carrotus easier.
.- Unnecessary Blank tiles(several invisible tiles stacked on top of each-other, and the blank tile in the corner of Carrotus).
.- Glitched Pallette Events(Mainly Pinball stuff).
Overall, 8 out of 10. Download Recommendation? Hell yeah!
A while ago, I tested the same thing myself. I came up with different results. I tested: Jump Height, and Jump Length, and in the end, Jazz won by miles. However, some people prefer to play as Spaz, and for the whole test, I thought Spaz would win. I was proved wrong. And Jazz does jump slightly higher than Spaz with his Super-Jump. He also — with a Running Jump and his Helecopter — jumps about 70 Tiles far, and the best thing about my tests is that they weren’t rigged to make Spaz win.
This pack is very good, it’s just like Hocus Pocus, except Hocus is harder. This is a very good pack, and it(indirectly) inspired me to start making a game, but it’s not quite up to Hocus Pocus Standards. Keep in mind that I haven’t completed this pack or Hocus Pocus yet, but I know what I’m talking about. Hocus is definitely harder.
Download Recommendation? Yes!
Final Comment: Play the Hocus Pocus Shareware Demo if you want to see why this is a 9.1 and not 9.5.
