Let me start off by saying interesting choice of music…

GAMEPLAY:

Hmm… Something different? This is a mostly symmetrical level with a few layout flaws. The layout would be a little better if it was completely symmetrical, since the ledge under 60,26 is harder to get around than the ledge under 39,26. I would also prefer not having to jump into a hole to use each of the blue springs at the bottom. Other than those four springs, spring placement is decent, and the flow is alright. The gameplay is actually something I can almost like.

EYE CANDY:

This level almost uses typical eye candy for the given tileset. Not to many tiles with shadows on them were used, and a few tiles were used improperly, but its nothing big. But once again, the background fades to black in 16-bit. Even though this can fit the theme, some color other than black would be nice once in a while.

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

I can’t say anything is wrong with the placement of the full energy carrot at the center of the level. Powerup placement is good. Ammo placement is alright, although dull. It’s symmetrical. What can I say?

HOST THIS OFTEN?

Maybe one time only. Ordinary but decent. All in all, it’s a 7.

Interesting view of Wall Street…

GAMEPLAY:

This level has a bland layout and could be more balanced. It looks too squared-off once again, especially around the edges. The flow is so-so since I can get around, but some places are a bit hard to get up and seem spaz-biased. Spring placement is somewhat better than before, although still could be improved. By the way, not that it’s necessary, but a larger level would be nice.

EYE CANDY:

The eye candy is almost decent. Where it tries to be original, it fails and makes the level look worse. For example, the wire mesh tiles in layer 3 could have been used for innovative eye candy, but instead it just looks strange since it’s in the foreground. There aren’t enough tiles in layer 3 around the hidden passageway at 21,23; I shouldn’t be able to see my rabbit’s feet. And the tileset wasn’t used 100% correctly (once again).

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

Carrot placement is alright, considering the seeker powerup placement. The bouncer powerup shouldn’t be hidden or even there at all. The level is small so one powerup would work better. Ammo could be placed better, but it’s not too bad as it is.

HOST THIS OFTEN?

Nah. But this is a 6.7 at least.

PS: Wadledee, no start positions in single player mode isn’t really a bug. There are multiplayer level start events in this level, so it is playable online. And Dx, do me a favor and quit mentioning coin warps unless one is actually in the level.

The Edit: Upon viewing this a second time, I realized this is a 6.2 at best. That sounds a little more accurate.[This review has been edited by BlurredD]

Well here is my review!!!

Eyecandy:
Okay!!! The eyecandy is okay there is a good background with layers and the foreground is good. There could be more
eyecandy things like more cannons and more tiles and Shadows. There are some tilebugs. And one thing looks strange, By the seeker powerup and the full energy there is that thing on layer 3 looks little bit weird on that spot the rest is fine.

placement:
Good!!! The ammo is great placed not to much not to little. The powerups are on the right spot. The springs are great placed and get me where i want to go. There is also a full energie in the center of the level. There could be a coin shop but that is okay.

Other:
Good!!! The red and blue bases are good placed and fair placed to. It does not matter what team you are because the bases are right placed. The red flag is easy to get just like the blue flag. The layout is good i don`t have to jump a lot and it`s easy to run without stopping. The music also fits in the level and the level is not small and not big.

It is a good battle a ‘¤7.5¤’ for you.

note: You forgot to do the tileset in the zip.

Well, lets review!
You used a nice tileset for your lvl!
-Bugs
The bad thing is, there are NO start-places for Spaz and Jazz! That’s pretty bad, becouse if you’re playing a multiplay lvl with two people, you cant use codes for “jjfly” and “jjnowall”!
-Big/small
Hmm… It’s not big, but also not small! I think thats good enuf.
-placement
The ammo is just placed GREAT! Not too much and not few, just good! It’s ev’rywhere on the right places. Also, there is just ONE carrot in the whole lvl! That’s not much.
-Bases
The good thing is, that the bases on the right places are placed. It’s not from you come too blue base, and you’re in a second with a hop by red base.
-Overall
a nice lvl with right placed ammo and bases. Not too big, not too small. Not much too say, only that you get a 7.7 from me! Good work, Da Man!

Well, im very bored and i have no other things to do, so i decided to review this.

CTF review: Spazy Planet

FIRST IMPRESSIONS:
Well, like BlurredD said, this level tries to copy bit too much from Zaitox, like that base placement. There are some tilebugs too, like that yellow/black thingie, what is in next to both bases. it looks a bit dull. And the gamepaly is not the best one.. Download or not, my review should tell everything, so lets continue:

EYECANDY:
Basic/standard – Hmm, basic eyecandy and some tilebugs. Like that yellow/black tile, next to both bases. ( btw, sorry if my english is bad )
It looks a bit weird, since it looks bit dull, but ofterwise its ok. No major complaiments, and i must admmit, that this your best level ever. there is some nice eyecandy on some platforms, and that background looks nice, but there are still some tilebugs, and this level is too linear, and bit more eyecandy on a level would make it look more nice.
PROS: background layers, some platforms
CONS:some tilebugs, dull looking parts.
RATING:6.7

TILESET USE:
Quite standard – well, standard tileset use. tileset was mostly used rightly, some platforms are good example. there are some things missing, like turrets, or those base-things, which are included on tileset. there are some parts,, where i don’t like about tileset use, and tile bugs, ( like i mentioned above ) okay, end of the tileset-use section, cuz im too lazy to write more. ;p
PROS:Standard..
CONS:tile bugs, etc.
RATING:6.7

GAMEPLAY:
quite bad – well, it is quite bad. other side is quite hard to move, since other side has more platforms, than other one. Myself i think that CTF levels should be symmetrical, because of the balance, what is important thing on CTF.And base placement is bit weird, and quite unfair since red team can reach blue base easier, than blue can reach red. And there are some springs what could be better placed. Gameplay is the worst thing on this level. and there is no good thing what i can say about it. well, at least, you included the full energy carrot. saves this section for low rating..
PROS:Hmm.. Full energy.
CONS:Quite linear, wrongly placed springs, etc.
RATING:5.7

AMMO PLACEMENT:
Hmm, good – Good ammo types are chosen. and those powerups are good too. sometimes, there are small packs of ammo, looking like this:
**
**
Hmm, i think, that ammo packs should be 3 * 2, it would look nicer, and it would be better, since palyers would get good amount of ammo. Well, no more comments.
PROS:good ammo chosen, its goodly placed..
CONS:small ammo packs..

ORIGINALITY:
Hmm,i wouldn’t say that this is original. Custom tileset + music. But iot doesn’t matter, since i won’t give rating for originality.
PROS: N/A
CONS: N/A
RATING: N/A

FUN FACTOR:
This level is quite fun to play, but i don’t think it deserves so high, like 7.7 or something. ;p
and some parts of it are boring. ;p
boring + fun level.
no more commetns, since im way too lazy to write more =PPP
and i won’t include this section in rating.
PROS: N/A
CONS: N/A
RATING: N/A

CONCLUSION:
Well, this level looks like it would deserve an 6.5 or something. train more with JCS, and you will become better. ;)
DOWNLOAD RECOMMEDATION:your decision.
HOST THIS:maybe..

Let me guess… CelL’s Zaitox Station 67 was the inspiration?

GAMEPLAY:

I don’t like the layout much at all. It’s too awkward for my tastes. This level has the bases placed close together like in Zaitox, except the two bases aren’t positioned in the center of the level. Mostly because of base placement, there isn’t much balance. A lack of balance coupled with a small level size is the formula for disaster. Moving on, flow and spring placement need work. Also, something bigger than the two-tile high passageway near the carrot would be preferred. And some more advice: check masking next time. I shouldn’t be able to climb into walls.

EYE CANDY:

It’s like Zaitox eye candy—just not nearly as good. The mud tiles weren’t really misused, aside from looking unnaturally squared-off, but many of the other tiles were.

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

Carrot placement isn’t that bad, considering the layout flaws. I’m not too fond of the powerup placement, though. I would have switched the positions of the seeker and RF powerups, then moved the RF powerup to the far left somewhere. I’m not too fond of ammo placement, either. IMO, there’s too much ammo too close to the ground. And fewer crates would be nice.

HOST THIS OFTEN?

I wouldn’t say so. This level tries to copy too much from Zaitox—and fails miserably. Try something more original next time. 6.5 is my rating.

Nice to see my sets are still used. No one ever tells me when a new new Blade-tileset level comes :)

What? Oh, the level rating, yeah… I’ve seen better battle levels in JJ2. Da Man’s Death Metal Arena is easy to explore and memorise, but that simply isn’t enough. A good JJ2 must be memorable in some way, otherwise it will sink into the large ocean of oblivion. Metal Death Arena will surely sink, I’ll tell you why: 1. There’s not enough eye candy. 2. The level design not interesting enough.

When these two points are combined, it is quite sure that playing Death Metal Arena isn’t fun enough. Da Man does what he is capable of, and maybe in future we will see more interesting JJ2 levels from him.[This review has been edited by Blade]

It feels like I reviewed this level before. Maybe that’s because this is the fifth Dx level I’m reviewing where “D” is the first letter and “(updated)” is at the end. Never mind—I’ll just download the level and give my review.

GAMEPLAY:

While the layout is better compared to the previous levels, it still looks too flat in places like at the bottom left. The spring placement is also better, the balance is okay, and spaz-bias isn’t much of an issue. However, it seems too easy to go from base to base in this level and some areas need to be more open like around 55,39 to 72,38. The coin warp also puzzles me. Why make the left warp go to the red base on the right side and the right warp go to blue base on the right? It would make more sense if the two warps were changed around for the sake of being less confusing. Moreover, I think there should be fewer coins, and they should be harder to reach. I’m not liking the coins placed so close to the carrot and the powerups. The coin warp isn’t even really needed, especially with this small layout.

EYE CANDY:

This level uses basic Diamondus eye candy. Correction: basic Diamondus eye candy with flaws. In general, the unmasked background tiles on layer 4 were misused. Also, the ground tiles look to repetitive in most places, and the foreground can get in the way. There are some additional eye candy bugs, but a good beta tester could point it out. Take out all of those flaws then this is at least average eye candy.

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

There’s a full energy carrot hidden at the top left just in case anyone was wondering. The carrot is on the right side, but it would take a similar amount of time to get there from each base. Powerups were placed well enough: the bouncer powerup on the far left with the RF powerup on the far right. As for ammo placement, it’s decent for the most part.

HOST THIS OFTEN?

Most likely, no. Almost a 6.7, but just falls short. 6.5 is my rating.

PS: “the bonus is original its the same as in Bblair”—That’s a paradox if I’ve ever seen one.

Hello, lets review again!
OUCH!! Horrible! The secret you putted in the lvl, was ugly! Gates in the wall!! Please fix that!
The background is good…The music is standard and the tileset… Well, it’s good, I dont count points off or on for ugly or good tilesets.
Well… The bonus is very bad! I mean, how can you make a warp to the base!?
I think it’s unceptable! You must SEARCH to the bases! That’s make the game better. That’s fun!!
Well, the ammo is great placed!
Not 6kinds of ammo on the same place, no better! ev’rywhere is ammo and not to much!GREAT!!
The gameplay is good…
The eyecandy is good…(HEY!, can you tell me how you do that with the colour from the lvl and spaz&jazz, or is that from the tileset self?)

Well, one thing is the baddest thing of all… There is no jazz/spaz/mp start!!How can you make a lvl with no start!? An very big bug is it!Please fix that! You can score higher if you fix that!!

Overall:A good lvl but with some bugs.

sigh Am I underrating or rating fairly? I don’t even know anymore. I’m not going to write a long review. I just want to even out the rating.

Eyecandy – Good
What can I say… another Wasteland level. You can’t really make good eyecandy with this tileset (unless you’re MaGoo =P). It’s good enough, anyway. There’s a layer 7, a layer 5 (?), a layer 4, and a layer 3. Good enough.
Gameplay – Bad
Ewww. First of all, there are dead ends. You should never put dead ends in your battle, CTF, or treasure levels unless you have a reason to (and you know what you’re doing). Second of all, the flow is pitiful. There is no trace of any flow here. Third of all, the layout is very confusing, and when you learn it, it seems very small.
Ammo placement – Okay / good
Pretty nice… but is the only carrot in the coin warp? It takes too long to get 10 coins to use the carrot. You should’ve put some +1 carrots in a few places in the level. Two at the most. The coins are placed pretty nicely, and so is the rest of the ammo.
Overall – I’m not writing a long review. Like I said, I’m only reviewing this to even out the rating. This basically has bad gameplay, decent eyecandy, and decent ammo placement.
Download – Maybe.
Host this often – No.

By the way, is it just me, or do the bad levels get higher ratings and more reviews than the good ones do nowadays? It just seems odd that something like this is being given almost the same rating as my Floating Town level got.

Hmm, i have no much time, so my review is bit smaller than it usually would be. ( sorry for that. )

Hmm, this is a battle level using Blade’s good wasteland tileset, and custom music file ( both were included in zip file. )Eyecandy is good, but quite boring. And there are some tile bugs. eyecandy is ok , though..
Gameplay is average, since its easy move around, there are right amount of springs.Im not a fan of dead ends though, an there is one. Average gameplay.Hmm, there are some ammo too, and its placed averagely, not too bad, but not too good either.
This level is quite boring, because lack of eyecandy. I would rate this better if there would be more eyecandy, 6.7 is my final rating.

Sheesh, I’m becoming Aiko at this rate. O well, every level needs a good thorough review, right? Not the kind of the two before me (who are probably biased)

First impressions:

When I first ran this level, one thing came to mind: roomy. This level has corridors of at least 4 tiles high. Another thing was emptyness: no noticable eye candy (except for the background), hardly any ammo and goodies. This is a good start…

Layout:

Like I said before, this level is roomy ,and big. The corridors are like at least 4 high and the platforms are thick. You’re able to run around freely however, I noticed only one real dead end, near the bottom. A good battle level, in my opinion at least, is compact. In the layout department, this level scores medium.

Tileset use:

This level uses the metallic “Wasteland” tileset by Blade, which is included in the zip. I failed to see any outstanding eye candy on layer 4 (the only layer shown in low detail where eye candy is the most important), layer 2 and 5 (tho layer 5 is well done). However, da man tried experimenting with 3D background on layer 7 (3D isn’t restricted to layer 8 :p). Layer 8 is filled with the standard tiles, layer 7 has the (translucent) Textured Background. This form isn’t recommended, but it’s fun to see he has the guts to toy with them. It’s just too bad he didn’t use the set to it’s full potential.

Ammo, candy, stuff that’s good:

When I say “big battle level”, one thing comes to mind: emptyness. The clusters of goodies are far apart from eachother and are smal: 3 by 2 (ammo with one coin). Furthermore, there are some on the slopes, other are just… there. There are two powerups: a seeker powerup at the dead end, and a blaater powerup in the bonus room (20 coins). In a big level, spread out goodies are inevitable. That’s the reason why compact ones are much better.

Miscellaneous:

This level uses a custom music file “demo.mod” by Necros, which is also included. Songs by him are always good, but there’s also the matter of “fitting”. In that matter, it succeeds well. The next level setting is set to itself, which is recommended for stand-alone levels.

Verdict:

Another decent but big level, no big bugs I could find. If the level was smaller and had more goodies, it would have gotten a higher rating. For now, I’ll settle for a 6.5.
