This consists of nothing but empty levels that only have bosses. I seriously gotta ask what’s the point of this?

There is nothing to do but fight boss monsters. No weapons, just the boss.

And not to mention the lazy level design is so unpleasing to look at.

This would have worked if there were any tips on how to beat the bosses. Then it’d be proper training, but no I don’t get any of that.

While I do love the concepts of boss levels, this one just fails.

Eyecandey
The backgrounds are all the same, using un-animated tiles and lame brick blocks. The arena are pathetic, consisting of using the same block over again to made tiny arenas. It’s boring and everything is floating.
1/10
Gameplay
All you do is fight bosses. that’s it. The arenas pose no challenge and it’s boring. Not only that, but you missed 3 of the working bosses. (Bolly, queen, rocket turtle and Xmas billy) The gameplay is boring and has no re-play.
1/10
Enemys and pickups
Non in aether, which is a shame because it could really add.
1/10

Final Score: 3/30
Score: 1
Rank: 1
DR? No. If you want to play something like this aether play Crimson Clowns Boss Rush mode or my Boss attack mode as both offer a lot more then this.

Pinball yay! …right?

Gameplay: 1/10
Well, the idea is pretty original, and it is interesting for a few minutes. I can see why it is for Tresure Hunt, but it has some of bugs. First, I got stuck in a wall shortly after starting the level. This was something I could see as being able to have been tested. I noticed that some surfaces would not have springs, while others did. I found myself pressing “jump” too many times for a pinball game. It was also cramped, so I had a hard time doing anything.

Eyecandy: 1/10
Well, it looks like a pinball machine. Kinda. The springs were simply… disgusting. They made my eyes hurt. A different tileset could’ve hidden them better.

Placement: 3/10
Ok, there were simply too many springs. Springs here and there. Why not use other events? Springs don’t make the world go round.

Bonus:
-Very original idea +0.5

Overall: 2.2/10
Good idea, but just doesn’t work. I could think of a few things that would make it better. Maybe make it bigger. And use LESS SPRINGS.

Download Recomendation: No, because it doesn’t work. There is another pinball level or two, get them instead. [Fixed review – ZAPPER]

Rating Boss Practice Levels:

Rating:
This episode is not good. Just six levels, with nothing more than a boss.
No bonusses, no other enemies and a bad eyecandy.
If you want to practice with the bosses, this is not a good choice. Jazz Jackrabbit 2 has a total of 10 working bosses. The fat ones are not fought in this episode:

  • Bilsy Boss
  • Bolly Boss
  • Bubba Boss
  • Robot Boss
  • Devil Devan Boss
  • Queen Boss
  • Rocket Turtle Boss (in the Enemies—->Bad Guys-list. You can make a course from it with AreaID-events)
  • Tuf Boss
  • Uterus Boss
  • XMAS Bilsy Boss (with ADDON Dog you can place this boss)

There are no enemies and I have seen pretty much Boss-area\‘s that does have enemies. There is also no way to refill your health. I call that very inportant in a practice-episode.

The best boss-practice-episode on Jazz2Online is Boss Rush Mode, made by CrimiClown.

Conclusion:
If you want to practice with the bosses, this is not a good choice.

Mark: 1,0
Download recommendation: NO!

I don’t know if I should give you rating or not. Since this really isn’t your level I probably won’t.

And anyway you shall get a review later if I bother to fix my JJ2 today.

I feel like reviewing today, and my evil fingers grabbed this upload today :P

LVL DESIGN
The level design was converted very well, I saw no errors or something. I didn’t get stuck, or had any problems.

EYECANDY
The eyecandy is the bad part of the level, but a very important one in level conversions. The author said in his descriptions he had problems with the background, so I’ll try to help out.

I think your problem is, that you did not edit the layer properties. Layer properties??? What da hell is that??? Go into a layer (for example layer 5). Now right click and click on properties. Now you see a bunch of fields. You should now close the layer properties and load a second JCS. Open a psych level (for example psych1) and go to layer 5. Now copy the properties of the original psych level into your level and close the level properties. Now put in a background which fits. If you are more experienced you can use the same layer speeds (how fast a layer is moving) and put in other things as background. If the size is wrong, modify it so that it fits to the things you want to put in.

So, left is the sprite eyecandy, which is, sadly kinda empty. One part of Cliffy’s Battle1 had bricks in the background, but I don’t see them here. Well, in Psych there isn’t any layer 4 background, so I suggest you to use those bricks with layer 5 (make layer 5 speed 1). Also not enough stuff in layer 3. I don’t see anything in layers 2 and 1, but in battle these two layers are kinda disturbing, because they hinder the view of the player, so I won’t detract points for that.

OTHER STUFF
Another bad point of this conversion is, that it has the same glitches than the original battle1. It has the bubbleshield (which everybody hates), the two deadends on the sides, the blaster powerup doesn’t respawn, and again it has that !%&§$# copter which makes the level unable to play with Lori.

GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is converted very well, but like already said it has the same glitches than the original Battle1.

AMMO AND OTHER WEAPONS STUFF
The ammo is exactly the same, again no glitches fixed.

USE OF TILESET
The tileset is used in an ok way, tough I really, really miss the background. You could for example have asked in the forum, before you uploaded it. Very few tilebugs, tough.

CONCLUSION
Well, I’m not really sure about that, it’s not great, but it’s also not bad. It’s just…average. I think the eyecandy could have a lot more detail in it, and the glitches should’ve been fixed. All the other things are allright, so here’s your 5.7 this time. Next time it will be better, I guess. :D

Have fun
PHT

EDIT
Changes I noticed:
GOOD:
-blaster pu does respawn now
-fast fire instead of the bubble shield
-instead of the copter event which Lori can’t grabb a sucker tubes takes you up now
-I noticed a part where there is a little bit on layer 5

BAD:
-I’m missing some ammo (toaster and ice)
-the room which had sprite background in Battle1 by Cliffy still is empty
-the dead ends still exist
-still too less things on layer 5

The level didn’t change too much at all, but enough to give + 0.3 points as a little thanks that Spazie even read my review I wrote so carefully :) (some dudes seem to not listen what others say at all)

I would say it’s “kind of boring” no matter how many players.

GAMEPLAY:

I look at this level and I wonder WHY. Well, it’s not much of a level. It’s small, unbalanced, and bland. The size of the level restricts the player limit to about two, although this wouldn’t be much of a dueling level. The layout is incredibly unbalanced, with the blue base near the top, the red base near the bottom, and nothing to make it equal. To make matters worse, there’s a bridge directly above the red base, making that base even harder to defend. Avoid using bridges as often as possible since they tend to cause “Divide by Zero” errors. The poles are just another pointless obstacle—might as well take them out. There’s also the issue about no borders around the level to prevent the flag bug. The flag bug is when the text saying that someone captured the flag keeps showing up across the screen repeatedly. A border of at least 2 tiles (3 tiles recommended) can stop this from happening. Despite all these flaws I mentioned, at least this level has team-based start positions.

EYE CANDY:

While the tileset wasn’t used extremely badly, the eye candy isn’t really good. It would be average eye candy if it wasn’t for all of the tiling errors. I especially don’t like the way the leaves were placed thoughout the level.

CARROT AND AMMO PLACEMENT:

A full energy carrot instead of three +1 carrots, two of which are hidden, would have been a better idea. The bouncer powerup and the nearby carrot should have been placed a little closer to the blue base. Ammo placement needs work; a little more would be better, and the TNT ammo isn’t needed.

HOST THIS OFTEN?

Definitely not. It’s a 4.2, but keep trying.

Foo.

***Default points : 6***

Eyecandy is basic, but looks good. However, you should use something different. Look for Blur’s “Green Vine Forest”. The rain is repetitive. And this blue spring which allows blue player to leave red zone is disguised by layer 3. And it looks UGLY.
—1 points drowns int the swamps here—

Size – 256×64, which just 1/6 is used. Level is really for 4 players or more, or it’ll be B°ring. Events are placed average. Red Base looks like hanging in air. Ammo is scarce, but it’s enough for 4 players. Generally, average.
POINTS NO ADDED OR DELETED

Tileset – Agama’s Swamps Evening. Oh yep, Spazie has written about it. It’s not used very well, but it’s your 1ste level with it. But music… spews … yuck. I think that the “Hell freezes over” (freeze.j2b) should be here instead of this.. spews again
—1 point for this music—

Overall -> -> -> 6 – 1 – 1 = 4
Four points to be exact.

Ok, let me give a fun review.
Gameplay: Bad/Okay. It’s bad cause its hard to get around and there was a hidden spring. I saw dead ends and there was no border around the level, which means a flag bug.
Eye candy: Good. The eye candy is good, cause everyone who uses this tileset makes good eye candy. Its a small level and if it was bigger I’d give it good/very good.
Pickup placement: Bad/Okay. Sorry, this is also bad. There were a few carrot+1 instead of Full Energy. Thats bad. There was almost no ammo and there were no power-ups too. Also, two carrots were hidden in a wall and they were placed near the base. Also, one carrot was closer to the red base.
Others: The music doesnt fit the level. And: the red base was floating. LOL. Well, I dont know if this is your best level, And I cant wait for BlurredD his review. For now, I give a 5.2.
P.S. I think that I overrated. So I give it now a 4.7[This review has been edited by da man]

Ok, this is interesting “very lazy eye candy” I said it before: lazyness is a sin. If it really has no eye candy, then I’m afraid it won’t look good for your level…

Ok, this starts off well: the level has no start positions! Upon closer inspection the level has nor Jazz or Spaz, nor MP Start positions. Single Player doesn’t need start position, but unfortunately MultiPlayer does (Please, test the levels in MP too, it’s what they’re mostly designed for!). That’s why it gives a Fatal Application Error when run in MP. Please fix it as soon as possible, or else no rating ;p
