very cool ! this level is a merge of funny and lightness of playing
I liked it
Joke levels can be hard to review, so I'll just say that some parts were dull and some were funny. My favorite moment was slooowly pushing a box while a trigger rock inexorably rolled towards me.
A decent level, going a bit overboard with the difficulty and trolling. Certain parts are fine, but I really hate the reliance on buttstomp jumping through respawning Floating Suckers. Also, the area with the bumpers, I literally had to use the fly cheat, because not matter how I timed it, the moving platform you are supposed to use, to get above the flipper bumpers, always passed through me, like it wasn't a solid platform, so add that to the irritating sections of this map too. Other than that, it's a fine level. Slightly too overreliant on buttstomp jumping over spike pits for my taste. Take it or leave it.
Please review before downloading.
And happy birthday Koen.
Doe de groetjes thuis.
Cool stuff, short and sweet, felt like 2004 again. I used a few cheats though.

No I did NOT enjoy. It was a good test but damn it tested my patience and my anger management. I’d play this if each jump had a checkpoint lol XD
Also it’s missing music :(
Hey all!
Eyecandy
It’s horrible. I can see Ðx was very lazy here, but I believe his intention was to make a challenging level instead of a good-looking one.
Gameplay
Wicked! Very bad! This level is somehow not intuïtively to play, because you get stuck in random spots and the invisible floors/walls and the sucker tubes are annoying as well. It’s not fun.
The flow is stupendous!
Music
The music choice is very good, I love the music so I give you +2 points for that.
Overall: Not recommended.
4!
Just replayed this level after a long time, and I don’t think I ever took the time to finish it back then.
The difficulty isn’t that bad compared to todays SP standards, but some careful movement and planning is still advised due to the obscure enemy placement, especially the bats. Ammo is plentiful though, so using Seekers and Bouncers made things a breeze. Also, the level is Spaz only and those stacked Tuff Turtles are mere fodder to his sidekick!
I like how the start of the level is a tiny little hub where you need to open 2 crates, and the method to get the last coin is pretty well done. I found at least 2 little secrets in walls so there’s stuff to explore too.
There’s not a lot of negativity I can say about this level, other than the fact that it’s short and that the boss was surprisingly easy and not that well-made. I recommend this to kill a few minutes, but eventually the followup “Cave 2” is a big improvement.
I’m sorry but this level is just horrible. The main problem I have with it is the fact that it’s the easiest maze I have ever tried out, due to how easy it is to get to the end of the level, I can hardly call this a maze.
And the eye candy, ugh. It’s awful. There are extremely few tiles used, which makes the level unappealing to beat.
Overall this is an awful level, though to be fair you have improved since you made it. A level you made in 2011 got high ratings and I can applaud you for that.
Honestly I don’t hate this level as much as Lark did. It’s not great, but it is tolerable.
Now I’m gonna talk about the eye candy. Yes, it is incredibly lazy, and sadly I have to take away scores for that.
But regarding the challenge. It’s pretty difficult. It’s not too difficult, but it’s still pretty difficult.
I do love how there are tuf bosses to make the easy fight with the robot boss more difficult. I applaud you for that, I find it pretty creative.
Overall I rate this level 5.1, I wish I could rate it higher, but the eye candy needs fixing big time.
9 years later: I realise the title means “Dark Wood Jungle”
I just came back from my trip to Ðx’s cave swamp, as I played this because the level is another one of the SP nominations in the 2011 JCS awards. So let’s review!
The first thing that got my attention were the deathpits. It took less than 10 seconds to notice that the whole level is based around one huge deathpit. In this case it’s a river, and the player has to cross it. This requires focus, planning, and precise jumping.
This level is clearly meant as a good challenge rather than a rollercoaster ride. It consists of short ‘tests’ with savepoints inbetween. There are some lives and carrots scattered and there is plenty of ammo to help you roast the flying enemies. Some gameplay elements included in these tests are moving platforms, precise platforming in low space, and stomping enemies to extend jumps. Most gameplay appears original to me, but some elements are just well known ways to make SP levels harder (or more annoying?).
The eyecandy is simple and effective, which is good for a level that lays focus on gameplay challenges. The whole background is covered in a dark brown color, and the green vine tiles are used to cover enemies. This all including the music are very fitting for a cave level.
I recommend download only if you want a good challenge. It took me 1 gameover and after that I used (or abbused?) the first part of the level to stack up extra lives. Worth 8.0 for the inventive gameplay!
I had 20 minutes to kill so I decided to play this, since the preview of the level interested me. Interesting and original use of the swamps tileset (though this style has been done before) and I liked the eyecandy and cave-like atmosphere; it was a refreshing change from the typical swamps level. Also this was challenging to play (I wouldve got a gameover if you didn’t hide all those extra lives here) though i thought some of the enemy placement was kind of cheap. However, the ammo placed throughout made this a lot easier (seeker/toaster ftw), though unless you are really skilled at this game you’ll probably find that instead of using any strategy, just spamming seekers everywhere is the best way to go. Save points were generously placed here, but i think they were needed since the combination of hard to hit enemies and death pits would get frustrating otherwise. I also really liked the boss battle here. Not much else to say really, good eyecandy/innovation, ok placement of pickups, good level of difficulty and fun to play = 8+ and a download reccomendation.

SE dying a lot in SP = SE giving a high rating
On the other hand, I didn’t enjoy surprise enemies, enemy generators and very large amounts of seekers in this level. I was able to shoot almost every enemy on my way with seekers. Also the boss fight was way too easy imo.
Nice and original, however kinda repetitively looking use of the tileset.
I was pretty suprised when I played this level, I really enjoyed it. The eyecandy in this level was in one word briljant! The lianas and such are pretty nice. The plants and the water effects are well done. The use of this tileset is good. The gameplay was in the start a bit hard and the boss is pretty hard too, compared to other levels. But you made a good job. The ‘Spaz only’ part was something I liked, no other characters, just Spaz. This level would be very easy if you used Jazz/Lori. Enemy placements is something what was bothering me, you don’t see them coming and such, that maked the level really hard. Music fits the level entirely and I have nothing to say about it.
If you like platform levels with a huge ammount of invisible enemy’s, then this is your map to download. Oh, and if you aren’t a pro, you need some patience.
Amstel,
First of all, it looks nothing like the original Battle1 level. Second, so what if it’s not original, I’m working on [a better] one of these
