Bah, don’t rate something which was considered as fun training.
It is fun to beat the bosses the ways Dx thought up to beat them. It wasn’t for eyecandy or something. Seriously, if you bash this so much, I’d say this is as boring as the JJ2 SP challenges Valco thought up. I am not gonna bash those either, so get rid of these levels if you’re gonna rate them for eyecandy or sth. They’re fun ;\. OR rather, they’re as frustrating as the SP challenges however these are shorter than the challenges :).
Sorry if it sounds like a Personal Attack, wasn’t mean like that. I just make my point clear>: [

Ran out of ideas, Ðx? I remember making the exact same without Tuff Bosses four years ago, if not more.

This pack was predictable like no other. In half of the total 8 boss combats, Tuf Bosses are put out of player’s reach to back up the otherwise weak boss. That way of making a boss harder is older than I remember, probably dating back to Violet’s TTJJ2 pack (precisely, its final level). Old or not, it’s okay if done right, but six Tuf Bosses at once in the first level definitely isn’t right.

Tuf Bosses aside, these levels are filled with other hazards, mostly spikes and respawning enemies (more annoying cliches), spike balls and smoke rings to a lesser extent. None of those are affected by difficulty settings for some reason or another, which is unacceptable.

Some (unfortunately, not all) of the levels seem to have the general idea behind, which is hindered by the lacking execution. The penultimate level (which I like the most because it doesn’t have Tuf Bosses) becomes the easiest once you figure it out – which is a shame.

There’s not much else that can be said about this. I did not mention the visual aspects because this pack is apparently devoid of those. These levels are repetitive, frustrating, and don’t seem to have taken more than 5 minutes to make, each. If you say that 5 minutes is too less, then ask yourself if these levels were at all tested.

What the hell is this??? It seems like you were starting a new level, but for any reason you decided to upload it to J2O… I’d like to think it was a mistake. To start with, it is only a small room. The background is very bad placed, the tiles don’t fit together, and there is absolutely NOTHING on the level to do, to jump on, to shot at or to pick up. Next time you upload a level please try at least to finish it before doing so.

PD: You say you used the Beach tileset, but it is indeed Carrotus (very very bad used though)

I wouldn’t say that this hotel would entertain me… for longer than 5 minutes. Further more, the lighting sux (why is it so dark in the rooms, no one would like to live there, since they cant see their room!), but you managed to get some eyecandy in it. All around the place you can find pieces of grass and such. One question, why didnt you use the giant carrots? I think it will make the eyecandy better.
Oh.. Gameplay sux too, btw. Why is it so empty everywhere? Would have filled lots of empty space with more houses and such.. Entertaining stuff. There isn’t alot entertainment, except for the Luck Tube, which you have added with alot of irritating noise. Further more, I can’t get back up to the layer with the shop, once I’ve gone downstairs.
Way to many coins you placed. Had to put my sound bit lower, cause the only sound that came out was “pling”!

As Labratkid said, don’t upload these type of city/hotels (or put more entertainment in it so it’s more interesting). But I disagree with Lab about the hosting. Don’t host this at all.

Rating Hot Springs

To start:
In this level the rabbits must made it come to the other side. But that is not easy, because everywhere is lava…

Rating Eyecandy-
It is splendid level. A pink context with splendid green thorns. Moreover the lava is also very beautiful with all that lavafalls…

Rating Difficulty-
The level is considerably difficult… the lava makes the level extremely difficult. The only helping things are Springs, but then still it is a considerable challenge, even for the experts of the Jazz JackRabbit-players…

Rating Story:*- N/A
No story, but if there is no story I give no score for this factor.

Rating Bonus Placement-
The bonusses are well placed. It are not too much and not too a less. I have nothing more to say about this factor.

Rating Gameplay-
Excellent gameplay. Jazz, Spaz and Lori must cover a with lava area by jumping from platform to platform. But you shouldn’t do is too slow, because you will miss the Springs and then you are lost.

Your mark is an 8 now.

Punishments:
  • After I’ve exit the level, I was a little bit sick (-0,2)
  • Bugs with the Springs (0,5)

Conclusion:
It is a fair level. Nothing more to say. Maybe less lava next time?

This level is alot of fun, you have to rush thorugh hard situations without dieing. Which would be great for like a chase part of a story line.

The level was very hard, but I think the level is also fair to a point. If you would beable to see the springs coming by when your about to jump off a cliff, that would make the game much better. Still I wouldn’t mark off too many points for it, this is SUPPOSE to be hard! If you don’t like a challenge then don’t play it!

The backround is arwsome, the lava flow looks great, the back pic. gives the level a great tone, plus it matches the tone of the music, welldone. But the biggest problem i had with the background was the carrots that would pop out of the lava, they look like you can land on them when you can’t, you should eather A: get rid of them, or B: have it where you can land on them but they will callops.

Ture there isn’t a story line, and because of that you should make it into a Race, then a Signle Player.

Overall, I liked this level, the idea is great, and what u did with the belts was very cool. I recommen downloading this level not just to have a fun game, but to learn how to do more with your custom levels.

This was just plain not fun. Very high originality and nice eyecandy, but the overdone difficulty just destroys everything.

Gameplay:

I remember the concept from the earlier version, which I played as well. There are four red springs which hover over a huge lava pit and fly to the right. To get over, the player has to keep up with them. They’re pretty fast, which means you’ll have to rush through must areas. And rushing is no fun at all. There are platforms with enemies and ammo, but you won’t get to kill or collect most of them, because if the springs escape you, you’re done for. One deadly area leads to another. I really, really, don’t do this normally, but I really just coptered through most of the level (I luckily played with Jazz). That didn’t make it any more fun though.

Rating: 5.0

Difficulty:

Argh. I like hard levels. I don’t like this one. It’s just not fun when you have to hurry so much you don’t get to do anything the level offers. I honestly don’t feel like replaying it to kill the enemies and collecting the stuff (or reading the text sign near the end if you will). This level would rock if it wasn’t so freaking hard.

Rating: 4.5

Creativity:

Many advanced tricks have been used. Worth to mention are flying objects (including the springs of course) like enemies and spike balls (see screenshot below), among other obstacles. The whole idea is cool too, but there’s just no way to enjoy it all.

Rating: 8.5

Eyecandy:

Looks good. The tileset has been used nicely, with the flaming inferno being present everywhere. But then again. There’s just no way you could enjoy it while hasting through the level.

Rating: 7.2

Design:

Carrottus burns for whatever reason. You got to get over it using springs avoiding flying objects for no real reason either. Though it looks a bit like the rabbit apocalypse or something like that. No, there isn’t any kind of plot.

Rating: 5.0

Overall:

Like I said before, this level would be better with less difficulty. The way it is now, it’s just insane. Also lacks a story.

Final Rating: 5.7, no download recommendation (unless you enjoy frustrating yourself)

I have JUST finished this and I got one word to say about this: FRUSTRATING!

STORY: N/A

EYECANDY: The pouring lava effects in the background are really cool but it’s hard to enjoy the Eyecandy when you’re focused on 4 VERY FAST moving springs. 7/10

GAMEPLAY: Interesting concept but it was very frustrating. The springs move VERY fast and you can’t stop for anything. I had to load about 10 times before I finished. 7/10

EVENTS: I loved the way the Belt Right/Left events are used to move the springs and the spikeballs. 9/10

DIFFICULTY: Probably the HARDEST level I have ever played, though it was frustrating. 9/10

PICKUPS: There’s some gems and Weapons along the way but you can’t stop to pick them ALL up. Very well placed. 9/10

ENEMIES: The enemies were a bit annoying especially when some of them were on the end of platforms and there was some annoying floating Dragons. 7/10

OBSTACLES: There was some destruct scenery which made it that much harder! 8/10

TOTAL: 54/70 (7.7142857142857142857142857142857)
Rounded to 7.7

DOWNLOAD RECOMMENDATION?

Wow..

Eyecandy 3/5: The layers with lava were nice, but there wasn’t a whole lo of sprite layer scenery.

Gameplay 2/5: Frustrating. There was no real reward for the player completing an area.

Originality 4/5: This was an awsome concept except for the fact that’s a remake of the original. You’ve taught me some new tricks, and I had fun playing the level regardless.

Enemy placement 3/5: It was ok. Sometimes it was frustrating due to the sheer number of enemies.

Item placement 2/5: You didn’t reward the player a whole lot. I’d strongly recommend making the level longer and adding food next.

I’m not giving a rating since this was a remake, but I would definitely encourage people to download this…just for fun.

I’ve seen the complete level before downloading! Yay!

Gameplay: Good
This battle level seems to be VERY different than XLM Woods: Far East, a level Ðx also recently uploaded. This level can be wandered through with only the use of the directional arrows. The springs and sucker tubes can bring you anywhere in the level. The flow is really nice (more about this in Eventing) and it gives you a smooth ride while you’re at it. Giddy-up, cowboy!

Atmosphere: Average
Ðx uses a palette edit of the overused Diamondus tileset, Diamond Dust II. Ðx’s reputation made me believe there wouldn’t be any problems using overused tilesets, although there isn’t much original eyecandy used. It looks really nice and all, but there’s just nothing special to add up to it all. The music choice is decent, as it gives you the Battle feeling, but leaves away the Garden element.

Eventing: Good
Another part of the good rating I’m about to give you is due to the fine ammo distribution in this level. The PU’s are nicely spread over the level, RF is the hardest to find and to obtain more ammo for, which is good because of its power. The springs are nicely placed (some bring you to PU’s automaticly by running) and the Sucker Tubes are the only way to obtain some RF ammo and getting back up quick and easy.

Originality: Below Average
Staying as honest as I can, nothing too original was used. Not that it takes away much, although you could’ve scored better on this level.

Another one of famous Ðx’s levels. Let’s see if his level creating skills are as adept as his popularity status… Muhahaha…

Gameplay: Good
Set up your tent, build a spitroast and get ready to haul in the meat! It’s CAMPING TIME! This level makes it impossible not to camp at some times. The platforms are so inviting… Yummy… The average player will have trouble getting around in this level and would have to grab their grapplehooks and any other items you can’t get in JJ2. Agility and fast movement is a must to get around, collect ammo and avoid campers. “Hidden suckertube elevators drain your energy as you watch how you end up near the unfindable Seeker PU. Here’s some advice: Get your hiking gear and march on, baby, march on!”

Atmosphere: Excellent
Even though Jungle is an overused tileset, and even though this level doesn’t have much to do with the Far East, it really captures the exact right atmosphere. Ðx shows once again that tilesets don’t have a limit, as far as eyecandy is concerned. He shows us some nice leaf drawings, as well as brilliant looking platforms. While you’re camping anyway, take a look at the scenery and take some screenshots to bring home! Your mother will be proud!

Eventing: Good
No need to be careful with ammo! “What’re ye sellin’, strangah?” Ðx brought every single piece of useful ammo to this level and presented it in a good way. The PU’s are somewhat spread out, except for the Bouncer PU being almost next to the RF PU. The springs are distributed in a convenient way, not blocking anything or making you skip large parts. The sucker tubes are nice, although hidden. Could use a little ‘hint’.

Originality: Average
This is where the level takes a hit in the stomach and falls down, crying, soaked in blood, waiting for the doctor to bring him the bad news… Nothing too outstanding or original is used in this level. It’s nice, but has nothing too special to mention.

Bonusses and substractions
Although the Bouncer and RF PU could be a little more spread out, I will not reduce points for this as it is easily fixed.

Overall
This level is certainly worth playing and hosting. It’s fun and could be part of the new Battle Server level list. It’s worth it.

Another J2WC entry! Yayz!

Gameplay: Good
The level is really fast paced, almost impossible to not hold down that Shift Key and rush back and forth. Once you learn the route, it gets really speedy. On each side are small openings in the wall which you can enter for a suckertube ride and ammo, although the tunnel above the Red Flag ends on the exact same height as the path up there, so if you were coming from that path and rushed against the wall, you get pushed back by exit-suckertubes. The pitfalls add a little difficulty in the rush, although the Blue Team has an easy way out once they have the flag: Drop in the pit and you get close to your flag, while adding confusion.

Atmosphere: Excellent
The overused tileset doesn’t matter for Ðx, because he uses every single usable tile and whips up another great level. We are familiar with the chains he uses so gladly, and the textured background made of bricks, but there are a few new things, even for Ðx. For instance, he managed to make a beautiful painting which seems to hang in a deeper background because of the tiles he uses. I love it how you made the two crossed carrots logo there. It’s awesome. Just to add up to all the greatness, the music is an awesome choice.

Eventing: Average
This is where the level starts dropping its score. The available ammo is scarce, even for a 1 on 1 duel. The only PU being the RF PU really makes it questionable. The Toaster and ElectroBlaster ammo seem a bit useless, but the Bouncers come in quite handy for protecting your base from the higher levels. You could have hidden a Bouncer PU somewhere, but I didn’t find one. Not an obvious enough one, that is.

Originality: Good
There are limited uses for every tileset and Ðx always knows how to overthrow the limitations and make something new. Good job.

Bonusses and substractions
The painting was nice enough to add a 0.5 to your total score.

Overall
A nice level to play, although it could use a bit more use for the ammo. You could, for example, hide the Bouncer PU in a wall, somewhat visible, so the ElectroBlaster ammo has a better use than just hurting the opponent. ;)

This is the first time that I’m reviewing a level made for a contest. It will sure become fun. As CTF is still the best and most played game mode in Jazz2.

GAMEPLAY
Most of this levels gameplay is pretty standard for a CTF level and the things that tried to be original didn’t worked out good. Like the holes at the bottom of the level, if you fall in there you slowly warp back above. Gameplay like that makes could make the level frustrating.

LEVEL BUILD UP
This level was build up like a standard CTF level would be, but furtunately, it has some extra and original secret passage ways and stuff. The eye candy was placed the way how Dx always does, whice doesn’t work out greatly for my taste. The original Castle level make-up was better for this level.

EVENT PLACEMENT
There aren’t much types of weapons in this level, but there are a few powerups. Overall there aren’t much special events or pick ups placed in this. It’s generally the weapon placement that could have been much better.

CONCLUSION
This level will sure give some fun if you host it a few times. But it just has so much things that could be better. It looks like this level was fastly made for R3p’s competition. Thus the conclusion is pretty simple. Download Recommended for those who want an avarage level on their server (just for some variation), and a 6,0 from me. Dx just made much better levels over the past.
