I was bored, so I created an example level for this tileset. Download it here. Hopefully this will make reviewing easier.
Cooba, Spazie: No, the quicksand is not ripped from JJ1. I can easily create hundreds of duplicate tiles in no time at all, if you’d like me to prove that. Few things are more simple than drawing that tile. Your confusion may be due to the fact that I used palette swapping for animation, like in JJ1.
Moonblaze: YES! I forgot a SUN! I ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! …the textured background colors are the sunset itself, though.
PHT: The example level is a race level. Races have ice ammo and no enemies. Ask anyone except maybe Bjarni.
Wow. You included two music files, edited the JCS.ini file a bit, and changed the version number even though nothing in JJ2 itself is changed. YOU’RE WINNER!!!!
Don’t use special characters in your .zip filenames.
Trying not to be biased by my recent single player level using the Castle tileset (unreleased), I’ll review this.
This is, sadly enough, not a good level. There’s not really much design, and the Doors aren’t used well, and stuff like that. But there are certainly some nice parts, like the big vine pit. Though I think it could have been done better.
In general, you just go straight, and shoot villains. No puzzles, as they’re called. And at the end there’s a series of warps, most of which (as far as I can tell) are end of levels, a few of which are bosses. I personally prefer the ones that are more common.
That would mean spending more then 2 hours on it.. try playing some other music in the background. (Scrict code of honor)
I’m so proud…. no, I’m not. These levels really need work.
Hmmmm… Not a bad idea. I’ll attempt to make a Heaven level in 2 hours sometime soon.
Pros:
Very good use of the tileset.
Decent enemy placement, and good use of Stop Enemies.
The Nope, it is only one level.j2l is very original. I like it.
Cons:
One or two tile bugs.
No puzzles! :(
It’s a little too easy.
Could use with more eyecandy.
Yes, this is used in JJ1. Not sure where, but probably in a secret level. The Deserto one, I should say.
[EDIT: No, I meant the Deserto secret level.][This review has been edited by Unknown Rabbit]
As far as I can tell, this doesn’t have anything to do with Hogs. It also needs more springs. There are plants, but they’re in a layer 5. Also no other eyecandy.
The layout is nothing spectacular, and as I said, it needs more springs. No powerups, so this could pass as a not that good GT level. Except for maybe the carrot part, which I don’t remember seeing.
I’m giving this a 5.0, plus .2 for the stupid name.
Now THAT was easy. Certainly under a minute.
(The tileset was made by Another Jazz 2 Fan)
EDIT:
I did play with low detail off, FYI. It just wasn’t confusing. Simply easy.[This review has been edited by Unknown Rabbit]
EDIT 2:
Ok, low detail off again. Not very confusing, not all that hard, though you’ve added one minute or so. However, I’m not changing my review.[This review has been edited by Unknown Rabbit]
Actually, don’t.
You’ve been dreading this moment, haven’t you? The day someone would come along and ruin your beautiful average rating?
Boy, I don’t want to see the spinach. Not if this is the candy.
Spend more time on your levels.
Err, my mistake. I meant to say EvilMike made the TILESET, not the level. St00pit me.
This probably has a plot of some sort, but the level is awful.
I have no idea what things you couldn’t get as Jazz. The Seeker Powerup is sitting on a one way platform, above a green spring that bounces you just high enough to get on top.
However, this level had some problems. Bad manuverability, (Walls I thought weren’t there were, and wice weresa) low eyecandy, (whatever happened to the water) and other things on that order.
You may say I used this tileset very badly, but I can’t say so much of your use for it myself.
This is great. Not only does it base itself on the most underused enemy of all time, (which nobody likes) (the witch) it uses them superbly in one of the most original bosses I have ever seen.
The levels do not have many secrets, but when there are some, they’re good. While I do resent being called nosy because I like flying around as a bird, it is nice to be awarded an RF powerup for braving a little hard work. (Go ahead, try to find both of those places!)
There are some very nicely thought out areas, like in level 2, where you must keep choosing a path. Sadly, the pathes don’t have all that much variety.
A nice 8.2 to Disguise, the grand HIC of BURP.
Actually, he/she did not download this. You’re telling someone off for something they did not do.
Personally, I have no wish to “cheat” in this way. As you said, and later got annoyed about, I shall thus not download this file.
Laugh at? Who would laugh at this? Except maybe your wanting a “Chew Toy”….. And I’ve always feared clouds, believe me. Their white faces, ever changing, never stopping…. so spooky.
