I like to trawl through old downloads from time to time, this one didn’t get a suitable review yet, so I’ll be nice and write one (what good guy I am).

Playability:

Normally an average level, but considering Unknown only had two hours to make it it’s quiet good. It’s your basic running around and collecting things level, but with some nice find-keys-to-open-doors-elements and falling turtles at one point (I liked those). It wasn’t all that long, but still quiet fun for an old SP fan like me. The level was also unlinear, another good point.

Rating: 7.0

Balance:

Not really difficult, however, my skills suffered from my inactivity from playing JJ2 and thus I was beaten by the boss three times. :p Most people could beat it easily though. For newer players who like levels that aren’t too hard it’s good.

Rating: 6.2

Creativity:

You can’t expect a lot from a level that took two hours and for that Unknown did a good job. The unlinearity and the falling turtles were nice, and I liked the key puzzle things. It’s not highly creative, but enough to keep one playing for a while.

Rating: 6.7

Eyecandy:

Standard eyecandy, but like I said, you can’t expect more from a level with such a time limit. I saw no major tilebugs, and everything looked fine.

Rating: 7.0

Fun Factor:

Many will miss the difficulty of today’s level packs, but I liked it. There were no annoying situations were you get stuck and don’t know what to do, there were always areas I didn’t explore yet. Short, but fun.

Rating: 7.0

Overall:

A nice little level, old, but fun. At least for me.

(Unsupported rating removal. Good job on rating something because you can’t beat it. In any case, you need to give more detail than this. What were the levels like? Why couldn’t you beat them? Do the levels have anything else to them besides fun factor? ~Violet)

I’m giving this 7 because I understand it was 2 hours of work. I would’ve given it 5.5 or 6.0 because it’s kind of sloppy, and the widescreen isn’t right, and the boss got stuck in the ceiling and I couldn’t finish the level, but since it took you 2 hours, I’m feeling nice. 6.5 it is.

Spring thing: Interesting music, the level wasnt really long, but sometimes hard and takes skill to pass. Not sure if this will be to fun since some amateur players may complain that this level is unbeatable (but its quite beatable). Other than that, not much wrong.
Over the rives and hrough below: Music is strange, the ponds in the tileset had me going for a while. I thoughtyou’d get stuck if you fall in them (because of long delay in suckers) but its actually quite interesting and may lead to chaos with people shooting and tackling each other into the ponds to gain the upper hand. ;P At first i thought the level was to short (having no clue that those two sunfloweres where saying there was a warp there, but the level turned out to be at a good size. The bottom area with all those springs is a bit crowded (especially if to many people are in there at once) but its actually fun :) And thats basically all of this level.
Swimming laps: I didnt like this one as much. A bit crowded but its ok. The water looked real ugly though, but then again that goes for a lot of levels. The tile placement, i just didnt like it for some reason, needs more detail. The suckerz that were put on those black tiles annoyed me and reminded me of a test (tests cause to much stress for me and just make me want to go mad) Not only that, but i SUCK at swimming in jj2 and the level was a bit hard for me, and i cant imagine what it would be to some new people playing online.
Springs J2S pole: Lol funny music, and the eyecandy was not to bad. The poles annoyed me, just imagine how it would be with over 10 people playing!!! As i played it more, i found the level quite annoying (me being as high as the ice powerup then suddenly accidnetally helplessly falling all the wayto the bottom. X( The level got so hard that it pushed me to the point where i had to cheat to beat it, which wasnt good, because I NEVER cheated in race level (most of em to easy) Also, the end lap warp took me just a tile to the right, thanl god i dont have to do many laps on this. The music rocked though.
Infinity Racing: This drove me to the point of madness, all those springs and TNTs, AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!The tile placement could of been a bit better though. The coin warp at the end was rather annoying.
OVERALL: Some stressful and hard levels here, with zounds of obstacles. Next time, make the race levels more fun, and less difficult, because the difficulty really takes from the fun. Thats all, and sorry for the rather low rating.

Hmmmmm…..I like most SP levels, as long as they are beatable. This one is, ill rate it using my new SP rating method.

STORY: There is no story, but then again, this is just one level. Still, it would ove been nice to have a story…
FLOW: The layout is basic, the level has a logical path. Not the best it could of been, but above average.
PICKUPS: A little on the underused side, it would of been nice to have more food and ammo. Gems, they were ok, but more ammo.
ENEMIES: Sometimes abit overused, but the level is beatable without cheats, so thats good.

BAD POINTS: Well, other than having to few ammo, the bonus warp which i so blindly entered, has no exit, just a vine above a pit of spikes. Therefore, if you go in the warp, you cant get out :/. That wasnt such a good idea, you should of made one way out, it would of been better for the way out to be secret instead of not there at all…Some lack of placement in SOME areas, also some parts which i BELEIVE to be Spaz biased, im not entirely sure though. No wait, they were perfectly unbiased, sorry for the misunderstanding.
GOOD POINTS: Excellent tileset use, not the best but still good. Good enemy flow, having you start out fighting about 3 basic enemies, and then move on by adding another enemy, then another etc. Some well placed secrets there as well. The level also loops back to itself. Nice and difficult puzzles. Im sure there are more good points, but im to lazy to list them all.
MUSIC: Fits the level, nice melody, good choice.
OVERALL: Sure, its a good and long (and annoyingg at times) Single player level which is a good addition to anyones jj2 folder. Anywayz, i cant really rate this, because my rating would be a 7.5 and that would damage the levels overall rating to much, and the level IS a good one, sadly to say it isnt a levelpack, thats why if I would of rated, it wouldnt have been as high….

On second thought…….Ill give this an 8 because of all the puzzles etc.

When someone abandons a level pack and its prospective levels, it is usually because one of several things: the pack was not going the way the author invisioned, there was a lack of time, or the author just lost interest in the project. While I’m not sure why Unknown Rabbit decided to ditch this collection of levels, I can say that it could develop into a simplistic, yet fun, single player level pack. Now for the review. The first level, which is named Diagon Fly Alley (a harry potter reference, the filename is tubby.j2l, which does not have any connection to anything that I can think of right now) is based in Jungle. The first thing I noticed about this level was that it does not have an excess of eyecandy, and that eyecandy that is there is not particularly creative. Still, gameplay was solid, and there weren’t many tile bugs. Near the beginning, there is a hole which opens up leading to a secret (designated by a text sign), but I would not recommend waiting such a long time for such a small secret. Next, there is a swinging vine which goes through walls (and takes you along with it). Fortunately, there are warps in the walls in case you get stuck. A hard-to-get One Up lies above. The level becomes less easy to navigate as time goes on. One place is very hard to not get stuck in. Enemy placement is also substandard. Some enemies are in places where the player would fall right into them – ouch. Other than that, this first level was quite solid. The second level, “The Diamond Factor” (which, in case you have not guessed, uses Diamondus) plays very much like the first in some respects. However, I have to say this level gets annoying. And quick. If you have never liked the Bees event, I doubt that you will get through this level with your sanity intact. Not only does this level use the Bees event, but it has spikes. And a lot of them. When I say a lot, I mean a lot. There are about ten seperate long spike fields to avoid. Do not expect to get through this level without being damaged some. It isn’t hard, but it also is not easy. Another gripe relating to enemy placement surfaced. I entered a very slow sucker tube leading to full health carrots with two lives. Nearby bees swooped in while I was in the tube and killed me when I was less than one tile from the carrot. Argh. Unknown Rabbit also seems to have gotten his blocks mixed up. He used sidekick/buttstomp blocks where he should have used trigger blocks. Regardless, this level was still good, despite the small-to-medium sized annoyances. After that, I got through the level only to find that the next level was Diagon Fly Alley again, and then Diamond Zone, and so on. It would be nice if the next level was set correctly when uploaded. There were two other files in the pack, one an apparent duplicate of The Diamond Zone, and the other seacar.j2l aka Flood!, the third (or fourth, depending on how you are counting) level in this pack and the final, as well. Flood!, surprisingly, is a Carrotus level (not Beach), but thereis a reason it is named Flood!. This level is plainly uninspired. All of it is set underwater, which is not my favorite location for a level. Also, Carrotus looks really strange underwater and a more appropriate tileset should have been used (any tileset would work for this level, it uses little more than the basic ground.) Not much to say about this one. It was OK, but linear and uninteresting. This pack, well random collection of levels, is solid but uninteresting. Eyecandy is passable, with few errors, but still not noteworthy. It is not a joy to play, but it is still a good timewaster. Moreover, it is a seven if I ever saw one.

I got an error with this.

After i downloaded it and out it in my jj2 folder, it was a winzip file(everything normal here), but then, when i opened it it said this message:

Cannot open file:It does not appear to be a valid archive
If you downloaded this file, try downloading it again.

I d/l it 6 or 7 times and still the same error when i open it. This doenst usually happen….

Its that when i click download, it starta downloading and finishes in one second, so i cant see the kb per sec or the percent because it fins\ishes to fast.

Ok, i got it now.
The levels basically use some of the most overused tilesets in the whole world. The placement, to much enemies, to little pickups. The eyecandy had bugs, but was ok. The route of the levels was sometimes confusing, but ok. Overally, i dont think this deserves a 7.5 compared to other levels, a 6.5 should do.[This review has been edited by Blackraptor]

Despite having a strange name, “Temple of the Uglies” is actually a very good level. It’s a challenging single player level with a ton of trigger crates. These trigger crates add an interesting puzzle-like element to the level, which is not found in many single player levels today, but is very nice to see. The tileset was used pretty well, eyecandy was very good, and flow was also good. This is definitely one of my favorite single player downloads I’ve reviewed lately, and is certainally worth a download.
