I have learned many very important things while reviewing this tileset, which happens to be my six hundereth review. The first and most important thing that I learned was that Violet is a codfish. The second and slightly less important thing is that Violet does, in fact, make great Jazz 1 conversions, and it was not JUST Nippius. From what I can see, this is a more or less flawless conversion.
The conversion quality was very good. After a quick lookover, I was simply unable to find anything that differentiated that much from the original, if anything at all. The colors looked right, the conversion seemed to be spiffy, and the masking was all in check – very well done, Violet.
Added tiles were also very good. The textured background and the like all look very good in the example level and with the tileset in general and add to the quality of the tileset. Unlike many conversion tilesets, the added tiles do NOT make the level look cheesy or make the conversion look questionable. If I did not know better, I could have sworn that the background came with the tileset in Jazz 1. Also, it is always great to have a fresh reminder of the Doofusness of Craig. Very well done again.
Masking was good, as I did not get stuck. It’s a basic “regular” mask, featuring a minimum of jaggies and the like. Not much to say here other than that I had no quips with the mask as usual. Well done.
There are a lot of JJ1 tileset conversions out there, but this one is by far one of the best. Keep making conversions like these, Violet. Soon, we will have great versions of all of the Jazz 1 sets…if you can survive through converting them all. ;-P
+ PROS: Spiffy all around.
- CONS: None.
VERDICT: Overall, an 8.7 and download recommendation for this. Very well done. I am proud to have this as my 600th review.
Finally, Violet strikes back with another conversion of Holidaious.
Tiles included: Probably all the tiles from the original holidaious are included, even those pesky hands that come out of the ground and ceiling. What more could you want? Some nice tree animations there that are included, a working backround, some important tiles such as destructable blocks and poles, and some eyecandy things. Violet has added in some extra tiles as well, such as the vines, hooks and poles and things, because the original holidaeous didnt include them. This is good, since these enable you to make a great level with this set. Basically, i cant think of any missing tiles.
Color: What can I say, its great. All 3 versions have excellent color which matches that of the original tilesets made for Jazz Jackrabbit Holiday Hare ’94. The backrounds are great, and so are the added tiles. The set is really nice to look at. There is a large variety in color and its all great, I dont know how it could of been a better color edit/remake from an original JJ1 tileset.
Useability: Its ok, some tiles are placed far from others which go with them, and some parts are a bit confusing. Looking at the set at first, I recieved the impression that most novices will get a hard time using this set, but then I quickly got used to where the tiles were placed, and I had no problem. The tileset is perfectly usable, containing every tile (except possibly a sucker tube) which is used to make a good level. I see few problems with this set.
Tiles included rating:3.2/3.5
Color: 2.9/3
Useability:2.6/3.5
Total = 8.7/10
Additional comments: Can Violet get any better? His conversions are amazing. And in this one, violet took the time to make 3 different versions of this set (Evening, day and night). All of them grwat with many strong points. Great to use set. There are some cool animations, and Violet included some extra tiles to make the sets better. These are some of the best conversions I’ve seen, and would definately used by lots of levelmakers. Violet makes conversions look like a work of art.
OVERALL COMMENTS:
These are great! They have every element of a good level (except some suckerz could of been added in) and are great to use and fun to look at. These will definately be the number one choice for any person wishing to make a level with either version of the holidaeious set. A nice christmas tileset (even though its a bit late :P) which I reeccomend everyone to download.
Well Done youve made yet another good JJ1 Tilset Conversion . I like the tiles of Eva.
Hey, good idea in the example level, but sad, that it was so short. But this tileset is awesome.
WOW! This titleset is great! The Evas ringing with there things. The example level has even a little story in it. You’v got to find the real Eva. The other Evas you meet are clones. This is actully the better version of HH94. All the destruct senery and stuff are just good made. The other day and morning titlets are also good made. I’m planning to make one of this level my one! Well, check it out for yourself, you will not get sorry downloading this.
+CONS: Very good made. Santa Claus on the background is just cool!
-CONS: To bad some titles are copied.
DOWNLOAD RECCOMEND!
This really does rock, you did an awesome job with the underwater theme. So pretty, so colourful, the fishes were a great addition. Gotta give you a pat on the back (or somehting like that) for a job well done with this one. It looks like a pain in the rear to use, but don’t all sets at first sight?
I’m not up to writing a big review, why don’t you just read what trafton wrote if you want big reviews ;)
This is the best conversion ever . Hocus Pocus rulez if only there was a way that the hocus pocus baddies could be put on . Anyways I will never stop playing this. Almost forgot when i got to the third level. I heard my FAVE MUSiC !!! from hocus pocus so i shall boost up my rating .

Hocus Pocus Forever[This review has been edited by Shiverz]
You know what? I have nothing to say…. I hate being so late to review things!
We all knew that someone was eventually going to make a tileset like this, and I’m glad it happened. I’ve always wondered why you don’t see many underwater-themed tilesets. Now for the review. First of all, I have to say that this definitely is one of the most rux0r tilesets to come out as of late. But the tileset when used is almost as easy to use as it is easy to untangle coral. This will challenge even the most advanced levelmakers. Just look at the tileset in JCS and you’ll have a good idea of what I’m talking about. This tileset redefines “hard to use”, in fact. I’m sure that someone could make a good level out of it, but it would require more effort than most people posess. Still, drawing quality is really key here. And the drawing quality is pretty good for this tileset. Despite only using the fairly limiting collection of sprite colors, this tileset looks pretty derned realistic. The fish and everything are well-drawn. Included are suckers, hooks, signs, poles, blocks, and pointy things for your levelbuilding pleasure. There aren’t any fancy-schmancy “megaeyecandy” objects or neat-o animations, but there is a sufficient amount of features to keep people entertained. Simply point, if you can make use of this tileset (not as easy as you would think), it can make some great stuff. However, mastering the tileset is extrodinarily challenging. I’m not a huge fan of underwater levels, but with some creativity, you could make a pretty spiffular one. You have to actually use this tileset to do justice to it. In JCS, it looks a little dry. But when you combine it with the water event (like in the demo level) it looks really nice. Whilst on the topic of the demo level, I have to say that I like it. The only complaint I had is that it was too hard to distinguish the man (and rabbit)-eating piranahs from the nice, friendly, docile trout. Back to the tileset, the shipwreck tiles are confusing to put together but really look nice when you do put them together. To put how difficult this tileset is to use in perspective, I would say it is roughly 3 times as hard as Beach. It’s pretty much impossible to use if you don’t have at least 6 months experience with JCS. In that case, I recommend you simply enjoy this tileset for its beauty and don’t make a level with it. Still though, for advanced levelmakers who want to make an underwater level and actually can use this tileset without too much trouble, you’ve found your dream tileset. Download recommendation for all, though don’t expect for it to be easy to use.
+ PROS: Tileset looks great, well-drawn, first of its kind.
- CONS: Hard to use. Really, really, really, really, really hard to use. And unless you want your level to look really weird, it will have to be underwater. Enemies blend in with fish swimming in background if you choose to use them in the background.
VERDICT: At first, I was thinking that I would probably give this tileset a 7.5 to 8. After seeing it in action, though, I raised that to an 8.2. Simply put, this tileset isn’t easy to use at all. It’s very well-drawn, but only the most experienced JCS users will probably be able to put it to great use. Still, anyone who is interested in tilesets should download this, even if they are unable to use it in a level. It’s really that well-done and creative. Great job, Violet.
Various Edits: Moonblaze, I agree about the sucker tubes – they do suck. ;-P
Edit: Rating change to 8.5.

The corals are a bit “overcoloured”. Background doesn’t help with the playing. Anyway, I needed a tileset like this for 2nd episode of Devil Dash. This sure is some new idea, but I remember Blade mentioning about Carribean Sea tileset… let’s wait and see (sea?).
Well, well…
What we have here is a rather(sorry, but I agree with Waz) average tileset. GrfX aren’t bad, but confusing. And it’s true that the background color makes it confusing while playing. (The fishes at the front layers are overdone in your Demo Level. No, I won’t rate the demo level. Just a fact). Some tiles have average GrfX though, and some animating tiles with the underwater-plants would’ve been nice.
Not a bad tileset, but no special download recommandations. Keep it up !
I wouldn’t be surprised if this reviw had been posted by somebody else
An average tileset. Bad graphics on some of the tiles, very good ones on others( those ship tiles, for e.g.) The background sux, and those fishes everywhere, apart from not looking good, make it hard to see where your enemies are. Also, the tileset is very colorfull, with colours on the background that are almost as bright as the ones on layer 4, which is a bad thing cuz it makes it kinda hard to get around. This tileset would be very bad to make battles with, but I think it would be good for a CTF lvl.
I personnally think this is a bad tileset, and I won’t give any download reccommadnation. [This review has been edited by Waz]
Well well, something different.
Yet another one of Violet’s tilesets. This one, however, is themed underwater. No, sadly no fooruman.
This tileset features all you need to make a good level, and maybe a bit more. It has some nice eyecandy, although it can look a bit repetative at times. No complaints at all, really, except one: the sucker tubes are bad bad bad bad. It pains me to look at them. Beside the tubes, however, this is a very worthy tileset. download it.
This tileset is definately interesting. As many pointed out it looks hard to use, but to me, it doesn’t seem that hard to use (Don’t get me wrong, it still is a harder than most). The tileset has above average eyecandy and it looks very nice when it’s all put together. Some of it is a bit…I don’t know the word..But…It is…. Overall this is definately a good tileset and I am already trying to use it. Good work Violet and keep making tilesets!
(BTW, Download reccomendation)
I would give this a higer rating, if it wasen’t because the tiles are set up in such a un-user friendly way. As Trafton noticed.
I hate the style of the tileset, it’s too “funky” with the colors, and expectelly if you overuse like in Violet’s example level.
The background for layer 8 is ugly, it can be made to a textured background throught, but it’s horrible.
A last negative thing is the sucker tubes, they suck. They don’t fit the tileset in anyway, their colors are screaming and dosen’t make a part of the tileset.
After I looked on this tileset for a while, I got a couple of ideas that could make it look better than Violet’s example level.
Overall, this is the only recent “under-water” theme tileset, and you should download it.
Although I expected a rip of the Donkey Kong Country level “Coral Capers” when I downloaded this, I was pleasantly surprised. The set ia big with all the necessary colours and mask messages. ;P To conclude, a 7.7 for you.
Yesh, I love the example level. ;p
It’s a very good set, but as Trafton said, difficult to use. I won’t be using it myself, but I hope some people use it, as it’s a very good tileset. ;)
EDIT: grammar and whatnot[This review has been edited by KJAZZ]
Well, a coral tileset. I knew someone was going to make one sooner or later. Anyways, the set isnt what I expected, but its cool.
It has tons of eyecandy, fish for foreground, coral for backround etc. The color of the tiles isnt the best, but only sprite colors are used..It has lots of different settings, and violet included black tiles, which are important for underwater tilesets if you want to make some parts of your level look“deep” because ambient lighting doesnt work underwater. There are many features worth seeing here (Corals, the ship, the dopefish etc), and the main thing which forces me to downgrade my mark by some (either than the colors) is that the tileset is as userfriendly as a 5000peice jigsaw puzzle. If you see the tileset in JCS, you’ll see what i mean. IT is very possible to make a good level with this tileset, sadly the level will have to be underwater, unless it’s some kind of strange level or something. Also, the basic tiles are here (suckerz, blocks, hooks, signs, poles, hurt events) There arent many animations, but there are some here, like those green sealiles or whatever they are. My conclusion to the set is that it is fun to use, difficult, but has the elements needed to create a good level, with many different settings. It may take you some time getting used to it though, but if you can get used to sets like Metal Mania, you can get used to this one as well. My final rating is 8.2, and a download reccomended.
If you guys want an episode 2 to happen you all have to email 3d realms and complain , because other wise its completely illegal and impossible to make, I’ve already got most of the tilesets made.
